Should Psychotic Medications Be Given To Someone With Rp

My dad is psychotic, help?

Ironically, I actually can relate. I have a very similar situation with my older brother (he's 39 and I'm 17). He drinks a lot and has gotten abusive with my mom, and I.

As far as your situation goes, you need to talk to your family and get your dad some rehab, or seriously help before he actually does harm someone. The thing with alcoholics is that you never know what they're going to do. Sometimes they get so drunk and screwed up, they'll do anything. Please get help before something actually happens. Fell free to IM me, good luck to you :/

Is my dad Psychotic? PLEASE HELP!?

Alright so my dad has been acting very strange lately and Im curious about everything so I'm thinking that hes suffering from psychosis or maybe schitzopherenia? Tonight he kept talking about connecting "spiritually" on facebook. (About a month ago he had a break down because my mom has a facebook and he thought she was cheating. It got so bad he knocked down a door in our house.) He said really strange things like he could hear his heart pounding? He does drink at least 3-5 times a week. Its usually after work (from about 5-9 or 10) About a year and a half to two years ago his mother died. Maybe that could have caused this and drinking is a coping mechanism? Im not sure because when his mom was still alive i remembered a time when he knocked things down and got violent with my mom. (Hes knocked down doors, made holes in walls, etc..) when he drinks he seems completely out of it. He talks weird and i can tell it is NOT himself. Odly ALL of the bad things he did were when he was drinking. I know that has a big part of it. I visited a website for signs of this and he had a few they were:
-Odd or bizarre behaviour
-Feeling refreshed after much less sleep than normal
-Staring without blinking
-Agitation
-Drug or alcohol abuse
-Rapid speech that is difficult to interrupt (this is a big one)
-Peculiar use of words or odd language structures
-Extreme preoccupation with religion or with the occult
-Unexpected aggression
-Suspiciousness
-Inappropriate laughter
-Reckless behaviours that are out of character
-Shift in basic personality.

I dont want to make my dad seem like a drug addict or anything because he's actually really smart. He's a Director of Radiology at a Hospital in my town. He is also one of the funniest people i know. Its just on occasion (WHEN HE DRINKS) he shows these signs. He doesnt always destroy stuff those only happened a few times. Im sorry for typing SOO much but i really need help with this. By the way im 15..

How does one recover from psychosis?

I like to answer this question with a scenerio. If you broke your leg in a bike riding accident the treatment would be resetting the leg, a cast so it didn't get moved around unnecessarily, medication for pain, keeping your leg up so you couldn't use it and using crutches if you had to walk. In other words , giving it a lot of time to rest and to heal,That scenerio is how you heal from psychosis also. After a Psychotic episode and the person is put on medication to convert the psychosis , the brain must be allowed to rest and I mean rest,Here are a few examples:Lots of sleep and lots of down timeNo visits to overstimulating places, limiting the amount of people that are around. No bright lightsNo excessive emotion around the person - either positive or negativeNo loud musicNo violent or fast acting video gamesTaking one day at a time.Measuring progress one week at a time.Make all scheduled Psychiatry and Counseling appointments.Attitude should be “ don't sweat the small stuff”Absolutely No Drugs or Alcohol. In other words activity should include walks in nature , doing puzzles , playing cards, spending time with family pets, helping with simple household chores like setting the table, listening to calm music, going for drives, paging thru a magazine of interest, naps, journaling in a note book, basically activities that don't stress the brain and give it the restful time it needs.By doing these things a period of psychosis will recover much quicker.

Where in the Philippines can i find Risperdal, an antipsychotic drug?

Mercury Drugstore and other big pharmacy stores around. Don't forget your prescription because Risperdal is antipsychotic and therefore a controlled drug. Prices may be high because its a branded med while here in the US, such meds are covered by your health insurance.

Is Dr. Bob's psychobabble website a good site for information?

Dr. Bob actually is a doctor (U of Chicago)...
http://www.dr-bob.org/

However, his psychobabble page is simply a collection of message boards on which anyone can post. So, like here on YA, and elsewhere on the Internet, some information is accurate and good, and other information is not. Many messages are posted by the public, not by therapist, medical doctors, etc.
