Should The United States Have Mandatory Military Service

Should the United States have mandatory military service for young people between the ages of 18-25?

I think it would be beneficial to our society for many reason. It would have implications to finding ways to prepare young people to serve in government and obtain marketable skills. It would make it posssible to extend health care to people at a very important time in post puberty pre-adult life. It would be a way to utilize Americorps type community service and it would be domestically based. It would also make available some real acclimation to higher learning.

Why should the United States have mandatory military service?

We shouldn’t.Involuntary servitude has been outlawed.Conscription is anathema to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As a volunteer and former member of a professional military- I share the contempt professional soldiers have traditionally had for conscripts. They are less than worthless in most cases. The biggest proponents of military conscription I have seen recently are of the opinion that a US military filled with conscripts, rather than volunteers, would be useless and undeployable in almost any circumstance - and they support it for that reason!

Should the United States have mandatory military service?

It's an idea that gets promoted every once and awhile, for example here: (http://www.chron.com/opinion/outlook/article/Rangel-is-right-about-the-need-for-national-1884798.php) and I don't see any reason why the US shouldn't do it? I think every American after high school should have to serve in the military for two years. Only exemptions for health reasons, and very limited deferments for college. And if one can prove they're a pacifist, they can have separate basic training and do civil service for their duration, like what Germany does. But if you can't prove that, and you don't have a valid health reason, into the military you go. Norway, Finland, Israel, etc do this and it has a lot of benefits to both their military and foreign policy, and their culture in general. We should enact this.

Mandatory military service?

It about living up to the oath of office to serve, protect and defend the constitution if someone does not do that or swear falsely they are committing perjury look up Webster 1828 Dictionary it time to start calling what these so called public servants do.

Each and every one who is elected in the United States by voters must swear this oath no matter what the office. That is why it is time we run for office I and many others have already done so we are now in the state parties as well and yes it is bad in both major parties anyone who says other wise who is in the political area is lying.

and the president is nothing more then a talking head the real power should be in the congress

Should military service be mandatory for all men?

It entirely depends on whether the threat to one’s homeland/nation/country is present to the extent that a very large number of the available human resources needs to be partially trained and ready to be called up for active service.Generally, keeping a large number of people at a high level of readiness is unaffordable. Most countries therefore have a core of employed professional military people who serve as a ready reaction capability and the basis of training the next wave in the event of a serious threat arising. There are many views that espouse the benefits of military service for all, ie. inculcating a sense of personal discipline, teamwork, work ethics, etc. There are other social constructs that are likely to do this better. And much more cheaply.I suspect that the benefits are overrated.

Should the United States require mandatory military service for all immigrants?

No. Some immigrants are too old, too disabled, or the like.

Should mandatory military service be introduced to all citizens?

Veteran with 22 years service here.NO, it should not be mandatory. While mandatory service would unexpectedly help some people in their lives, the majority of involuntary draftees would only create a more inefficient and ineffective fighting force. Those who don’t want to be in the service almost always drive down morale and cause others to work harder to pick up the slack. The military has a hard enough challenge managing its 2 million active and reserve members who chose to join without having to babysit involuntary participants.

Should the United States make every citizen do a mandatory 2 year military service like Israel does?

As someone so liberal he has been accused of communism, I say *absolutely*, but only if it entitles you to all the same veterans’ benefits afterwards. Hell, if it entitles you to all the same veterans’ benefits, why not do it for longer? In the United Arab Emirates, it’s three years.Imagine a United States with a free-or-subsidized healthcare system for veterans. Imagine a United States with a military that will pay for a veteran’s college education. Imagine a United States where all veterans have a pension. (Now open your eyes, that’s our America today.)Now imagine that all Americans are veterans. Universal healthcare. Universal education. Universal pensions.I wish we were revolutionary enough, as a country, to give all people access to our country’s current Elite Soldier Socialism programs. I wish we were willing to be serious about a mandatory tour of service. I wish service were considered so normal, so expected, that Trump’s avoidance thereof were considered shameful.
