Since Today Yahoo Mail Has Started Ignoring The Default Setting For The E-mail Address Used To

Restore Yahoo Classic Mail?

The current version replaced "All New Mail" - now it's either that or Yahoo Mail Classic...

Once you have the new Mail Regular, you will no longer be able to switch back to All New Mail and/or see a switch-back link to Mail Classic, but I'm slightly visually impaired and found an interesting workaround a few weeks ago to at least get back to Mail Classic: lower your screen resolution, and as soon as it's too low for the new mail, you will get a message displayed asking if you want to switch to Mail Classic. Click "yes". Of course you can switch back to your original screen resolution once you have mail classic back..:-)

Another option: turn off Javascript - you'll then be asked if you want to return to Mail Classic, click "yes".

In case you don't know how to turn off Javascript...

For IE: tools -> internet options -> security. In security click "custom level" -> disable active scripting in the scripting section. Remember to turn Javascripting back on when you are back in Mail Classic since without it some mail functions won't work

For Firefox: tools -> options -> content, click on "disable Javascript". Now hit F5 to refresh the page while you are in yahoo email in order to kick in the option (permanent) to switch back to classic. Do not click on the "one time" option. Turn it back on once you have your "Classic" account back.

Yahoo! Mail setting for Android mail app?

For HTC Hero with Android operating system. This was working until 20 Jun 11. Has Yahoo! done anything to prevent the built-in Mail app no longer work? The Yahoo! Mail app is fine except it used more battery power.

The settings I'm using are:

Username: yourname@yahoo.com
Password: ******
IMAP server: android.imap.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: SSL
Server port: 993

Outgoing server settings

Username: yourname@yahoo.com
Password: ******
SMTP server: android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: SSL
Server port: 465

Hotmail deleted all my emails prior to September 20, 2017, so even ones that were far newer than ten years old. This was an old email address I had from Middle School so literally contained tons of childhood memories from emails with friends, some of whom have since passed away. While admittedly I had not been checking my hotmail account that often, I had definitely been within the past few months and also had my phone number and a recovery email address so would’ve expected Microsoft to contact me before deleting literally 20 years of emails.Honestly, I am shocked that Microsoft did this. I tweeted them and they provided some stupid canned response saying the setting was “on by default”. When I asked what setting they were referring to, I just got silence in response.Understood it is a free service and they can hide behind that, but seriously, lesson learned and just tells me something about the way Microsoft conducts itself. I cannot imagine Apple doing this to users, as they value their customer experience, whereas it seems Microsoft doesn’t really care much. It is also shocking given that they actually host the Azure cloud platform so not like storage space / servers are lacking there…. moreover, doesn’t give me much confidence if I were to need cloud storage in the future.I’ve pretty much given up hope, but it is still disappointing every time I remember that they deleted all these emails - including from my first girlfriend, high school romances, friends who have passed away, my college application letters and essays, etc.Maybe someone from Microsoft will read this and try to help out users experiencing this — doubtful, but here’s to hoping.

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an Internet standard for electronic mail (email) transmission. First defined by RFC 821 in 1982, it was last updated in 2008 with the Extended SMTP additions by RFC 5321—which is the protocol in widespread use today.SMTP by default uses TCP port 25. The protocol for mail submission is the same, but uses port 587. SMTP connections secured by SSL, known as SMTPS, default to port 465 (nonstandard, but sometimes used for legacy reasons).Although electronic mail servers and other mail transfer agents use SMTP to send and receive mail messages, user-level client mail applications typically use SMTP only for sending messages to a mail server for relaying. For receiving messages, client applications usually use either POP3 or IMAP.Although proprietary systems (such as Microsoft Exchange and IBM Notes) and webmail systems (such as Sign In, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail) use their own non-standard protocols to access mail box accounts on their own mail servers, all use SMTP when sending or receiving email from outside their own systems.
