Skinny Healthy Looking Cat

Nursing very skinny cat back to health?

A cat that looks to be in its late kittenhood wandered into my garage last night. It is very very skinny. It ate a bit of my cats hard food I gave it and offered it some water but it did not want any. It has been about 12 hours and it has not eaten any more. I am not sure if it is just not hungry or if there is problems with how skinney it is.It is a super friendly cat so I do not think that it is feral.

I am about to make a trip to the pet store and need suggestions for the best kind of food to get it.

Cat got spayed and came back looking very thin?

When my cat got spayed, she looked very thin too! I mean, they did just take out all of her girl parts. When you think about it, it's quite a lot of things and can take up some space so when it's suddenly gone, it will make a big difference. but in a week or 2 it will somehow fill itself back in, either that or you just get used to it, i'm not sure. but if your cat is a kitten, or young anyhow, she'll look even thinner just because kittens do tend to be a bit thinner than adult cats already.

Mother cat really bony and skinny after kittens?

Nursing queens use more calories while feeding kittens so a good balanced diet is essential at this stage, as all vitamins and goodness goes to her producing milk for her kittens so you need to feed more often, little and often is best or just leave some out for her so she can eat while she feels hungry,

we did this every time a cat in our care had kittens as they can lose weight quickly,so we upped the food with a good quality one,you will also need to get her treated for worms but not while she is feeding her young or the drug will pass on to the kittens in her milk,

always get a vets advice with any worming for a nursing queen, and when the kittens are around 5 weeks old it will be time to start weaning them, give wet food mashed with kitten milk to begin with, and only feed kitten food any other will be to rich for their tiny tummies.

Is my cat too skinny?

i think that females are just smaller than the males. we have 6 males and 2 females and the males are the same age but weigh on average 2 more pounds than them.
i think for an average size full grown cats, the weight for a heathy cat is 12-15 pounds. if the vet doesn't seem worried and she is eating, i dont see a problem.(but then i dont claim to know all the facts, just what i have experienced throughout my years)
hope all stays well with your kitties. best of luck.

Is it normal for mom cats to get really skinny after giving birth?

Yes its very normal as now she is using up extra calories because she is feeding kittens,it takes lots of calories for her to produce milk so all she eats goes to feeding her kittens, the best diet for a cat feeding kittens is wet kitten food as it is higher in calories and protein,

this will help her produce milk but at the same time maintain her weight,if skinny she will also gain the weight back, its also fine for her to eat her usual food too and feed on demand is best as she will be hungry feeding her kittens,

so yes feed wet kitten food and she should improve not only in weight but her energy levels.

My cat had kittens shes very skinny is that normal?

One of our stray cats had 5 kittens, 3 weeks ago now. She's thin as well, not bad, but a tad smaller then what she was before she had the kittens. As someone mentioned, all the food is going right to her body to produce the milk to feed the kittens. Make sure she's eating a lot, someone recommended to me to feed mom Purina One Kitten formula. It has a 40% protein content. I also give her some wet food, and some other stuff as well, and a vitamin. If you can, leave the food out for her to constantly eat when she wants. I can't do that, my other cats figure out a way to get to it and eat it.

Also, my vet says the kittens first check up should be at 6 weeks for the first round of shots and dewormer. And, since the kittens will most likely be on regular food by about 5-6 weeks, get an appt. scheduled for the mom to get fixed.

She should be cutting back a bit on how much the kittens are eating, or rather they should be sleeping more and eating a bigger meal as opposed to constantly eating. That should give her more time to get up and walk around some. Keep an eye on her leg, might need the vet to check that out if it's not better. Good luck!

Is my cat to skinny - i have wormed her!!?

be sure she has all her shots and her check up not just the worm plm. esp if she is gonna be an outside cat she will need her shots for protection from getting sick. She doesn't drink water because she knows ull give her milk. milk can give her the runs and u wouldnt know because shes outside. with having the runs constently ..there is dehydration and with dehydration there can be the inablity to gain weight. Once in a while milk treat is ok like once in every one or two months. Other than that......... She is an outside cat shes more active and prolly has a high metabolism. My cat own is skinny but very tall and lean cat and he eats all the time too. He will just be a skinny cat. There are alot of fat cats out there that make normal healthy weight cats look underweight or sick when in fact they are healthy.

Is it normal for a cat to be really skinny?

so you have had this cat over a year and it hasn't seen a vet yet to tell you if the cat is excessively skinny? Well then, it sounds like it is time for a vet check up for both of your cats - which is very important to make sure they are healthy and not too skinny or too fat, or infested with worms, or harboring some other illness.

Some cats are naturally thin and some cats are naturally thicker - just as some people are. Is your cat "too skinny"? can you easily feel her ribs? how about the bumps on the spine? if you can't easily see or feel them, then no, you cat is not too skinny.

If you have to go digging to feel the ribs on the new cat, then it is too heavy.

Why is my cat so skinny, even though I feed her?

Get her some worm medicine!! Let me guess, she meows for food even right after she has eaten? She never stops eating?
it seems like there is a bottom less hole in her belly? Your kitty has worms!!
Another thing you will notice, is this: A cat that cleans itself often is a healthy cat!! If you notice that your cat doesnt lick it self clean often, It is beacuse he/she is sick! P.s, you will know if the medicine is working, because you will see them(dead) in the poo! They will be visibly clear!
Aslo, I dont know if you have children or not, but if you do! I suggest getting them some dewroming medicine at the pharmacy aswell! One of the main signs that your child has worms is VERY loud grinding of the teeth while they are sleeping!

My young female cat it very skinny, but has always been this way ever since she was a kitten, should I be concerned?

How skinny? Google "cat body score" and see if you can identify the body score you would rate your cat at. You should be able to look at and palpate your pet to identify a body score yourself and do this regularly. A 5 is ideal and it means you can palpate and feel distinct ribs, but you can't see them. There are some other criteria but I find the rib test to be an excellent one for all of my animals. I think the surrounding zones, 4 and 6, are also not a terrible place to be, but I would probably tweak the food amounts to get to 5.Another question: is the cat eating enough? Most foods will give a daily recommendation on serving size. Make sure you are following this and make sure the cat is finishing her food. If the body score seems a little low, add more calories to the diet and see what happens. It may be something as simple as she isn't getting enough food for her level of activity and her body type. Remember, many cats have different "normals" depending on a few variables. I had two cats where one was healthy at 12 pounds and the other was healthy at 8 pounds. That's a pretty big difference for two kitties, but they were both at a healthy body score. They also both ate different amounts of food. So you need to know what normal is for your cat given her body type, breeding, sex, and age. A vet is an excellent resource to figure this out. However, you can also experiment with food amounts to maintain a good body score and this can lead you to the answer. While on the topic of vets, you should be regularly seeing a vet, so at your next check up you can ask them to score your cat. They are looking at these things during checkups anyway, but sometimes they won't specifically tell you a number unless you ask for it.If your cat looks like a 3 or less and she's definitely getting enough food; or you’ve already added calories and still haven’t seen any change (give it a few weeks at least), then go to the vet. There could be some other health issue causing her to lose weight.
