Sleeping Walking Or Afraid Of The Dark

Are dogs afraid of walking in the dark?

They can be, but not because of the darkness or poor sight in dark.Just as we rely on our sight, dogs are keenly attuned to sounds and smells. Things do go bump in the night and things always smell different; different animals come out, some flowers open at night, many shut their perfume making petals. A dog that doesn't get out much at night would find the changes a little unsettling; however, dogs that go out often (shame on the pets' families who let them roam in the dark!) are accustomed to the changes and will awaken the predatory interest. They are the ones not afraid, but rather to be feared.

Is it normal to be afraid of ghosts and the dark and be unable to sleep alone?

What exactly are you afraid of?Ghosts? - You do realize that even if ghosts existed (which they don’t) they would appear to you at any hour of the day or night and regardless of whether or not there are other people present, right? The presence of daylight or other people in no manner would prevent the spirit of an undead person from appearing, if such entities did indeed exist. The dark? - There is nothing in the dark that won’t be there in the light. If you currently live in a high crime area, then you might want to move as crime can occur at any time, day or night. If you are afraid of pests, then having an exterminator come in can rid you of that problem. If this is an existential fear which is making it impossible for you to function normally, then you are going to have to seek professional assistance. There is no “curing oneself” of this type of emotional reaction and trying to do so will simply waste valuable time and effort that could be better used.Again, there is nothing in the dark that isn’t there when the lights are on and the lights won’t prevent anything bad from happening to you.

Why are we afraid of the dark?

In early days of human existence on earth, Humans were not on top of the pyramid of food chain. They were easily exploitable by predators. Humans knew that, predators are more likely to attack in the dark so that fear and protective mechanism started to build in the subconscious mind of humans. It may sound surprising but ''Fear of the Dark'' is a preventive measure of our brain. Brain is similar in working as that of computers. Our brain has been programmed in a way that whenever there is an incomplete image of the surroundings, the brain tries to complete it (fill the void area) to understand the surroundings better.Consider an example of an image which is getting generated on a computer, the image needs to be 100% complete to be able to display it. If the image is only 20% generated, then the remaining 80% area will be left blank and the computer won't be able to process it. It will prompt that there is an error in this image.Similar thing happen with brain. Brain is programmed to understand hundred percent of the environment and when the environment generated in the brain is not hundred percent, it tries to fill that void with relatable objects and experiences we had.Let's say you are in the dark and brain is able to only see 20% of the surrounding. Now on the basis of the 20% data, brain will try to understand the surrounding but only 20% data is not sufficient to process and understand it. Brain will take the files or the data from the folder which are similar to the surrounding like dark, danger, ghosts or fear, predators and put those elements in that 80% empty space so that it completes an image to understand it.The absence of light is what makes the brain to complete the image of the surrounding with relevant objects in order to protect ourselves from the dangers of going into unknown. Our brain is such a marvellous object indeed :)

Is anyone afraid of the dark?

I'm almost 16 and I'm terrified of the dark. I've had a few incidents happen to me that have lead me to fear the dark. I cannot sleep in the dark unless someone is with me(not like a poltergeist. Oh gosh no

4 month old afraid of the dark?

its entirely possible. most people that are scred of the dark arent actually scared of the DARK, theyre scared of what they cant see and what they dont know. there is alot that a newborn doesnt know yet and is still experiencing, and fear is something he will learn. not something you WANT him to learn naturally, but its a part of life and theres no way around it.

i dont know if my daughter (9 months) is afraid of the dark or not, but she screams the second the room is dark. maybe its cuz she cant see us and that makes her aprehensive. either way, night lights are super cheap and also better for YOU too, cuz say you go in to his room at night to check on him, youre gonna need a little light so you dont trip all over stuff, and also the light from you opening the door wont be totally bright and wake him up. our outlets in our daughters room are all covered by furniture, so we had to get a little lamp and bought a colored light bulb (red, cuz it looks pink, but blue would be pretty too), it puts out more light than a night light but isnt too bright too keep them awake and gives them something to stare at while theyre falling asleep.

Is it normal to be afraid of the dark at 16 years old?

It's a fear I've never really gotten over, I had to sleep with my light on, my tv, *and* a night light on when I went to sleep all through elementary school--eventually I got over it. I hate being in the dark, especially if I'm by myself; I can't even walk downstairs in my house without getting paranoid! I'm always looking around, turning on all the lights, constantly peering over my shoulder...I guess I'm just terrified something is going to grab me. Thankfully, I no longer sleep with a night light, but, however I do still keep my TV on all night when I'm sleeping. If I turn the TV off, and the room is pitch black, I freak out. I'm not as afraid of course if someone is with me, I still think it's a little odd, though! Will I grow out of this?

Why am i deathly afraid of the dark?

Well, your fear of the dark is a kind of phobia. And phobias are a kind of anxiety. With generalized anxiety you can get anxious about - well, just about anything, but phobias like this single out one thing to be anxious about - fear of spiders, fear of small spaces, fear of flying, fear of heights, or in this case - of the dark. And many, if not most, people have a phobia about something or other to some degree.

What happens when you have a phobia is that if you're exposed to what you're phobic about, your body goes into a fright, flight or fight kind of mode. You actually undergo physical changes - more adrenaline going through your body, heart beating faster, etc. You know from experience, I'm sure, that you can't be talked out of your fear. In fact, you probably find it insulting, because intellectually people with phobias know that there is really nothing to be afraid of. But their mind and body continue to respond to the stimulus regardless.

The general rule is that you should get help to deal with a phobia if it is interfering with your life and the lives of those around you, and it sounds like this one is. Phobias are very common and the behaviour modification techniques that are used to treat them are very successful.

It's not really necessary for you to know the reason for your phobia to treat it. It's not the kind of thing that you need years of psychotherapy for or anything. A good councellor or mental health practitioner would just, in very, very gradual stages expose you to the thing you are afraid of until you can deal with it. It's called behaviour modification and it's usually very successful

Good Luck!!
