Small Engine Experts. Help

1999 Honda XR100R Fuel leak, as a small engines mechanic, i am STUMPED.?

I cleaned the Carburetor yesterday morning, then went riding with a friend. usually its 1 Kick wonder and it fires first kick. this time it took 6 or 7, then his dad noticed it was leaking out of the front of the carb. (front as in facing the front tire) it looked like it was leaking out of that needle (now im not sure if its an adjusting needle or whatever but i cleaned it and set it back to the original setting, one turn out) and i just came in from attempting to fix it again, which it stopped leaking out of that needle, but its leaking out of somewhere else and dripping down to that overflow line or whatever it is coming out of the bottom of the bowl. couldn't tell ya where. but i touched the end of that line and it was wet. also, inside the carb, there was a little plastic ring type thing that refused to stay on, and it took my 100 tries to get it to sit still while i slipped the bowl back on. the gasket is in the right place. the guy i bought it from last month said he replaced the cylinder..i have a feeling it wasnt put back together right. please, i beg of any expert to help! where could the issue be and how could i fix this???
Thank you all in advanced.
and yes, all the hoses and lines are properly attached, so dont be a smart@ss.

Which are better, Kohler small engines or Honda?

If you dont like the Honda. Go with the Kohler with the cast iron cylinder sleeve. It wont let you down anytime soon. Not to mention the Price difference.

Is it true that cars with smaller engines than their predecessors have worse real world mpg and range?

No, now that is not to promise much better mileage, but the downsizing of engine size is directly due to mileage requirements and generally speaking todays smaller engines deliver more than sufficient power.

What is the detailed procedure for selecting an ic engine for a small car?

Small cars are actually designed for public and hence manufacturer tries to keep cost of car as minimum as possible. Many manufactures in India use stock engines which are readily available by other engine expert manufactures.Actually in India most of cars differ significantly from each other by look and brand. FPT( Fiat Powertrain Techologies) provide SDE(Small diesel engines) engines to Maruti Suzuki and Tata as well as to Fiat. 1.3 SDE engiens are used in Tata Bolt, Vista quadrajet, Zest and may be in upcoming Kite. Also 1.3 SDE is used in Swift, Ritz, Swift desire, Baleno, ertiga. Also it is used in Fiat Punto.Simple thing to understand here is car manufacturers find out suitable engine with great FE, by Load, power required and most importantly engines reliability.

Would a small block 302 ford racing engine work in my honda del sol and what would i have to upgrade?

It could work, it will just be all custom, a lot of custom fabrication, wiring, and custom parts. For the most part, nothing between a honda and a ford are straight up compatable.
So yes, you could make it work, with a ton of time, money, equipment for cutting/welding, and some good expert help.

Why don't small engines, like in lawn mowers, have better mufflers to make them quieter?

Why is it that all of those small internal combustion engines, like the ones on lawn mowers, pressure washers, generators, ATVs, and outboard boat motors have such tiny mufflers and make so much noise? I especially wish the lawn equipment was quieter--the noise can ruin a nice day. Why not just put on a bigger muffler like a car has to reduce the noise? Even just a few decibles quiter would be nice!

What is a good On-line small engine repair school?

Actually both these schools are pretty dependable, but you have to realize that a correspondence school isn't going to give you the hands-on training. On the other hand, hands-on training isn't going to teach you the conceptual stuff, the calculations and the expert time-saving tips. Really you need both. If you don't have time to take a course at a technical school, then home study is a pretty good option to get you started. You'll still need to get in some serious practice on motors on your own.

When it comes time to choosing a school, take a look at price and payment options. Also look for hidden charges, like shipping and registration. I think you should know that neither Stratford nor Penn Foster offer these course online. They mail you the books to study and you can do your exams online.

How do I fix an engine that seized because of no oil?

Since you are even asking this question in the first place, I’m assuming that you are perhaps not aware of what it means to seize an engine from oil starvation. When you starve an engine of oil, things start to weld together. This is why engines seize. Things can even weld together to such a degree that the engine (or at least certain parts of it) is literally not repairable. I have seen, for instance, cams that are welded to heads to such a degree that the only option is to throw them away and replace. The same can go for crankshafts or even pistons in cylinders.Regardless, even in the best cases, an engine rebuild is in order. Given that most (if not all) rotating and sliding surfaces in the engine are likely damaged, you will probably be replacing all bearings, pistons, rings, camshaft, rockers/lifters, and oil pump (among other things). You will need to rebore the block and probably regrind the crank. And if the engine is an overhead cam engine with machined surfaces in the head for the cam(s), you will likely be replacing the head(s). Needless to say, this is going to be a very expensive, laborious, and time consuming process. And it may or may not be worth it. Oftentimes, unless there is something REALLY special about the engine (like a rare engine, numbers matching classic car, etc), replacement is a better option. Rebuilding may also be a good option if you want to upgrade the engine internals for performance reasons. But even in this instance, you must carefully consider whether the engine is damaged beyond reasonable repair. It might be better here to start with another longblock. When it comes to replacement, there are a few options. You can often purchase low mileage engines imported from Japan for a fairly low cost. For Japanese cars, this is a GREAT option. Alternately, you can almost certainly pick up a used engine from a salvage yard or private party on craigslist for FAR less than it would cost to rebuild your current engine. Buying a rebuilt engine is another option. This is more expensive than the previous two options. But an engine from a reputable rebuilder can be in basically new condition and last a long time.
