Solitary confinement?
the people placed in confinement are too crazy to be mixed with normal people. those are the people that will just beat people up for fun and have mental problems that cannot be solved. they dont stick any random person in solitary. the system is not corrupt like the movies. shawshank redemption was a great movie but stuff like that is for the moves
Life in solitary confinement?
Sometimes it is necessary and used to protect the prisoner from him/herself or to protect members of the prison staff. But it is a special form of imprisonment and can be considered a form of torture too. I think it is only necessary for prisoners who are considered the most dangerous to other people and for predatory prisoners, who might be capable of leading crime groups even from within. Also, it could be used for prisoners who are at high risk of being attacked by other inmates, such as pedophiles or witnesses who are in prison themselves like in protective custody. Because of the lack of human contact and the sensory deprivation that often go with solitary confinement and the severe negative impact on a prisoner's mental state which can lead to certain mental illnesses, it should be reserved for only those which are really necessary.
How to get my husband out of solitary confinement?? He was sentenced to 45 days and it's been 55 days...help!?
My husband was sentenced to 45 days in solitary confinement for fighting, even though he was jumped by 3 men in his cell and it was in self defense) It's been 47 days. He's coughing up pepper spray from Correctional Officers spraying other inmates. He's only allowed 1 hour out of his cell 2 days a week for an hour. Most of the time it's been only a half hour. He's sent in multiple requests to leave with no response. He's been refused food. My husband is a non violent offender and is constantly defending himself from other violent offenders. Whenever he mentions how he's not being treated right, the correctional officers threaten him that if he files a grievance then,"something bad will happen" He writes me all of this in letters bc he cant speak about it over the phone. He's one of the few caucasions in the block. I'm concerned for his physical and mental health and I don't know how to approach the situation without correctional officers retaliating against him for complaining, he told me in a letter that it would only make matters worse. I'm extremely concerned for his well being. My question is who do I need to speak to get him the hell out of there b/c everytime I try to speak to someone they just brush me off. This is urgent....

I am doing a paper on the pros and cons solitary confinement in prison and I'm having trouble coming up with three pros to it. I have read it prevents inmates from hurting them selves or hurting each other. Does anyone know any other PROS about it?
Can you request solitary confinement?
No, I’m not personally going to jail, but I’ve always thought that if I were, I’d want solitary. Nothing seems worse than having to be in the same cell with another person day-after-day, hour-after-hour. So, suppose I was sentenced to 36 months for, I don’t know, money laundering, drug trafficking, etc. Could I say “I want solitary.” or would I have to prove myself a manifest danger to other inmates and staff before I could get that?
