Some Docs Say Being Average Even Slightly At Or Above Your Bmi Is Fine Any Truth In This

Am I Anorexic even though I have an average BMI?

Just because you have an average BMI doesn't mean you don't have an eating disorder. You might not satisfy the criteria for anorexia, but if you keep on going like this, you will get a BMI low enough to be diagnosed with it.

Please see a doctor because this will ruin your life and everything about you. I promise you that.

Is a BMI of 25 really overweight?

Full disclosure:

According the BMI calculator on the nhlbi.nih.gov website, I have a BMI of 25. This is considered overweight.

Now, I am not a sculpted, chiseled man. Not even close. But, my waste line is 35 inches, I can jog 3 miles non stop - and I can run a mile and a half in about 12 minutes.

I have a pretty strong core. Bench pressing isn't my thing, but I'm certainly not below average there.

I felt like I was pretty average. I guess I'm fat...

Who knew!

Anyway, do you think the BMI system is a little off? Or is it just right?

Also, what is your gender?

Am i under weight or average? 13 years old, 5'1, & 92 pounds?

I'm a small framed Asian girl. I'm 5'1 and 92 pounds. My sizes for tops are usually XS/S and for bottoms, 0s/0r sometimes even 00
I'm 13 years old. I just wanna know since my doctors never tell me anything about if I'm underweight or average or even over.

How much should the average 16 year old female (5'6) weigh?

No one has an average weight no matter what your doctor says. Most doctors say that you should weigh 115 or somewhere around there but this isn't always right. Its about what you eat, how much you eat, and how often you eat it. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much and what you eat your body shape willl be what it is eat to be if you stress alot, over-eat, lack exercise, and also what your families body composition is like. My mother's side of the family is wide hips, big boobs, and big *** but that doesn't mean that I inherited all those things from my mother. My father's side of the gene pool is slim, trim, tall and thin, which I am not but still I don't always believe that anyone has an average weight because no one is made the same. Even if they be twins, triplets or setuplets!
Be happy with who you are and not worry about your looks all the time! Looks aren't everything.

Is a slight overweight, from the prescribed weight, liable for disqualification in the medical examination after the NDA?

The answer to your question would be a resounding YES. Already Tharun Mathew has given a very good answer for your question.Just adding to it. From my relevant experience, I can tell you about the medical standards for Indian Navy. For a male of 18 years age with 173 cm, the ideal weight is 57 kg.Here is the link for the source of the above information. Join Indian NavyPage on nausena-bharti.nic.in  (Page 22)You get a 10% margin for your weight in SSB medicals. My Experience regarding the medicals was almost similar. I weighed around 63 kg during my SSB medicals and have a height of 174 cm, age was 22 then. I was advised to not consume water for 24 hours before the day of weight measurement in my SSB and I also avoided food. On the day of the measurement, I weighed around 3.5 kg lesser than a day before and I was declared fit with respect to my weight. It should not pose a problem to you either. However, it may happen that you do not lose the weight proportionately all together by the above described method, as weight loss also depends on the body type of the person, metabolism and the fat content in the body. So, what you can do is avoid eating fatty food and do physical exercises like running or playing some physically exerting game or sport to achieve the weight loss. Please consult a Doctor through a personal visit for expert advice rather than believing in what "Doctors say". You say that you are well built and muscular. However, your strength is not affected so much if you achieve the weight loss in a gradual manner with a good exercise/ fitness regime. You are not asked to do herculean tasks in the SSB for proving your physical fitness. If I remember correctly, Individual fitness proving tasks are not at  difficult as they are made out to be and also do not require a well built and muscular frame. Any average guy/girl with average fitness and strength proportional to the body can do extremely well in the SSB. Hope to have solved your queries.Happy Learning :)

Why is BMI still used if considered inaccurate and outdated?

Because it isn’t meant to be used by itself. BMI is best measured when height and weight are measured along with frame size. I’ll give you an example. There are 3 primary body types, and they each have a skeletal frame size difference.Ectomorph: Small frame size. Very skinny. Usually has a hard time putting on weight in both muscle, and fat.Mesomorph: Considered the prime body type for athletes. Medium frame size. Easily builds muscle, and can store fat just as well as the 3rd body type, but can shed it easily.Endomorph: Large frame size. Usually has difficulty putting on muscle, but finds it easier to store fat on par with Mesomorph.Let’s say we have 3 people here. Person A is an Ectomorph, B is a Mesomorph, and C is an Endomorph. (Though the average person usually shares traits with 2 types, but frame remains the same for the dominant type of the two they share traits of.)Person A is 5’10, B is also 5’10, C is also 5’10.Person A is 170 pounds, B is also 170, and C is also 170.Person A would be obese.Person B Overweight.Person C. Normal weight. These are what would be considered average BMI diagnostics, however there is yet one other factor to be considered. Muscle to fat ratio.Person B might read as overweight, however if he, or she is noticeably fit, and shows most mass to be lean, he or she is actually HEALTHY.On the other hand, Person A could weigh in normally for his or her frame at between 129–145 pounds, but lacks lean mass, he or she would be considered UNHEALTHY.For the unhealthy, the goal would then be to build lean mass without losing weight. Changing the body ratio to more muscle than fat.
