Can you deposit a check for someone else?

Yes, if they endorse their check and you know what account to deposit it into. (Have them write the account number on the back of the check.). This commonly happens with married couples, families, or an elderly person and their caregiver. My dad used to regularly deposit my paychecks, even though my dad wasn't listed as a member on my account. If you deposit the check into someone's account on behalf of that person, the bank should give you a receipt but they should also black-out the account balance. You need proof that you did as requested (hence them giving you a receipt), but that doesn't mean you deserve access to how many dollars are in your friend's account. About 20% of the time the bank messes up on this, and leaves the bank balance showing._____________You CANNOT deposit a check into your account that was written for someone else. That is check fraud. If your name isn't on the check, don't sign the check, and don't put it in your account.  Simple enough.

Can someone deposit my checks on his account?

A cheque can only be cashed into the account whose name is on the cheque. Basically anyone can deposit a cheque in your name into your account but a cheque in the name of someone else could not be paid into your account. If a cheque is placed into an account of someone with the same name, the actual intended receiver of the cheque will notify the payer who will then contact their bank to enquire whether the cheque was cashed and where it was cashed. The receiving bank will then reimburse the payer, the receiving bank will then contact the person who cashed the cheque to advise them it was not theirs to cash and they will then give a notice period (usually 21 days) in order for that person to pay them back if in the instance they had spent the proceeds of the unintended cheque.

Can someone else deposit a check into my account?

Yes, they can do a direct deposit to your bank account as long as they know your proper name and account number. They just need to fill out the deposit slip properly and all is good. OTOH, they can’t WITHDRAW from that account since it is not theirs…neither can they cash the check written to you…only deposit it in your account. When I write checks to others, ON THE BACK, I write “FOR DEPOSIT ONLY”…This is old school and not really followed today, but it is a reminder that the check is for deposit into the account and not able to be cashed or redeemed elsewhere for cash.

Can you deposit a check into your account if it's made to someone else?

I owe back taxes, so any $$ I have in the bank that's in my name, is subject to garnishment. I use my GF's acct to cash my checks by signing my name, then she signs it, then we deposit it on the ATM machine. We tried walking up to the bank teller, but they refused my check due to bank policies. When we started using the ATM machine, they processed the checks so fast, they don't stop to check and make sure the check is made out to whom ever the acct belongs to. Been doing this for over 2 years now, and the bank still hasn't realized the checks she's depositing on her acct (through the ATM machine) are not made out to her name.

RE SiriusMary's posting; its only accts that pay interest, like savings acct, money market certificate accts, etc... that are subject to IRS reporting. Unless you have an interest-bearing checking acct, deposits (and balances) into checking accts are not reported to the IRS. Your checking acct is only subject to review during an IRS audit, when they're investigating unreported income to evade paying taxes.

Can i deposit a check in my name into someone else's account?

I received an check in my name but I don't have a bank account. So I'm trying to deposit the check into my boyfriend's account. Is that possible or does the check have to be in his name in order for it to get deposited in his account?

P.S. I don't have an account because I got my previous account closed. Let's just say I did something very stupid. :/ Anywho, ChexSystem is pissed at me and I can't open an account.

Can your direct deposit your check into someone elses Bank acct?

Yes you can, you can divide your check up as you please. you can have different amounts or percentages go to different accounts. I have $100 go to my moms account each pay period and then of the balance I have 75% go to my account and 25% go to my husbands account, which we use for savings. It's your money and you can dispense of it any way you like....they just need your signature approving it so they don't get in trouble. I'm in CA too......hope I helped :)
