Soy Oil Or Sunflower Oil

Can i mix sunflower oil with olive oil?

It is a myth that heating olive oil produces dangerous toxins. See the below link for a technical discussion about this issue. People around the Mediterranean have been using olive oil for cooking (in other words, heating it) for millennia without there being any sign of them succumbing to toxins. Indeed, olive oil is a central component in the "Mediterranean Diet" which is generally considered very healthy.

I see no reason why you cannot mix olive oil and another oil or butter.

Indeed, one of the recipes I regularly use for risotto calls for a mixture of butter and olive oil.

Can I use sunflower oil to fry chicken?

Yes! Please do use it. It will taste great. :)

Not only will it work, it will work better than grapeseed or canola oil because it is more stable in high heat conditions such as deep frying.

And I've also found that it adds a pleasant nutty flavor to the chicken, so it is a wonderful choice. :)

From Wikipedia:

"high-temperature frying (260 degrees Celsius / 500 degrees Fahrenheit and above) :

super canola oil, almond oil, apricot kernel oil, high-oleic safflower oil or sunflower oil, peanut or soybean oils"

Note that grapeseed oil isn't listed, and sunflower oil is! "Super canola oil" is also listed, but most canola oil sold in stores these days isn't "super canola oil" - it's just regular canola oil, and not as stable under high heat frying conditions.

"medium temperature frying (below 190 degrees Celsius / 375 degrees Fahrenheit) canola, walnut, sunflower or sesame. Use or any of the higher-heat oils for sauces"

This one includes regular canola and sunflower oils, and *not* grapeseed oil. If you're planning on frying at a medium temp, then you could use canola oil.

Grapeseed oil is sometimes used for medium-temp frying since it won't smoke until it hits 485F, but it begins to break down at around 360F and create free radicals, which aren't good for the body. So I don't use it for frying anything unless I want to fry below 360F. I use it mainly for salad dressings, and making flavored herb oils (such as basil & garlic oil) for gift giving.

Which oil is better for cooking - mustard oil, soya oil, sunflower oil, or olive oil?

Mustard oil is the best oil for Indian population as was elicited in clinical testing conducted by aiims.yes even better than the much hyped olive oil as it doesn't have the required amount of pufa as mustard oil had. Moreover if you are really in it you must opt for kachchi ghani mustard oil as it is cold pressed so healthier. The other issue with mustard oil is erucic acid content which was found in it.But tests latter refuted the early theory of its presence being harmful to humans. So all in all the major and only drawback you have is the strong smell of mustard oil.if you can get along with it then stick to it.Also as a doctor I must advice that never use a single oil all along.Mix other oils like olive or canolainto your diet to reap the benefits of other oil too.And always take care never to reuse oil as heating destroys the goodness of all oils, more for the ones like olive oil which have a low smoke point.

Are various refined oils like soybean oil, rice bran oil, and sunflower oil unhealthy? I heard that harmful chemicals are used in refining them.

No. You have heard wrong. It is true that chemical are being used in processing of oil but all chemicals should be Food Grade as per government regulations. There are certain steps involved in refining of oil which starts from removing the physical impurities and moves forward to removing chemical impurities. In removal of physical impurities such as dirt, gums, sometimes certain chemicals are used. However it is not necessary to use chemical for each oil. For example, sunflower oil contains wax which can by removed by used of chilled water through specific process. For removal of chemical impurities, most firms uses Physical Refining which include application of steam and heat only.In the TV ad of PATANJALI, you must have heard about using physical refining by Patanjali while other firms are using harmful chemicals.i want to clarify one thing here: This ad is MisLeading. Most of the firms uses physical refining. To treat the oil through physical refining, it must be passed through certain chemicals to remove impurities otherwise it will hurdle the refining process. As patanjali is using Physical refining, it must be using chemical to remove the impurities just like all other companies (Adani, Ruchi, etc).It might be possible if Patanjali has discovered a new way of refining oil through physical refining without using any chemical, which is highly unlikely.

Which oil is best: palm oil or soybean oil?

It depends on what you want to do with it… if you plan to use it as an edible oil for Deep Fryling and general cooking then Palm oil would be better but Soyabean oil is higher in Polyunsaturated fats and it is good for light cooking and baking. Both he oils are from Vegetable Sources and although the Palm Oil or Palmolein has been around for a very long time.Palm Oil: It is extracted from the tree of Oil Palm and it is very high in Saturated fats. For this reason, Palm oil is very suitable for Deep frying as it does not lose its goodness with high heat frying. Further, Palm oil does not have cholesterol and it has been seen that it helps in reduction of LDL.Soyabean Oil: As the name suggest it is extracted from Soya seeds and it is high in Polyunsaturated fats. Due to this reason, it is not good for deep frying over high heat. Soya oil dries in air and forms a shiny layer on the food. This makes it a good choice for baking. Both oils have Vitamin E & K which are two very important nutrients. So, based on your purpose.. chose the one you prefer. Simple guideline is to use Palm for Deep Frying and Soya for light cooking n baking.

Which oil is better for heart, soyabean, mustard oil or rice bran oil?

No oil is good for the heart. Oils do not contain anything therapeutic for heart. Oils are a necessity for cooking food, nothing else. Excessive consumption does cause different problems for general health, like fat accumulation etc. The question should be “which oil is not bad for health?”.Generally, cold pressed oils like mustard, peanut, soybean, olive, sesame, coconut etc. (oil seed is mechanically pressed for extracting oil) are good for health.Solvent extracted oils like rice bran oil are not, despite all the pseudo-scientific terms used in marketing (there is no substantial proof of such dissemination). The main issue is residual solvent left in oil. There is no check on quality of packaged oils, so they are best left alone.
