I have a HP pavilion g7 1329wm series laptop with 4GB RAM...?

It's pretty much universal that all laptops only have 2 Dimm slots, this isn't cost cutting, it's just because there limited space on the board, so they place two dimm slots usually on top of each other.

I give you this information because it's VERY rare that a manufacturer will just give you a single 4gb stick, chances are there will be 2 x 2gb sticks in there. Do yourself a huge favor, get a small screwdriver and have a look, RAM will be under that panel with a little microchip logo edged into it (don't worry RAM updates can't void any kind of warranties).

What you find will give you your answer, if there's 2 x 2gb you'll need 2 x 4gb to upgrade. If there's a single 4gb stick, then just get another 4gb stick of the same speed ie PC3-1060. Remember that the slowest speed stick will always slow down anything faster.

I have a HP Pavilion that heats up on the left side. I have seen cooling "pads" that attach to the side and vacuum the hot air out - will that work?

Shane's comment about dust is very true. very essential to clean dust out. if you do this with a blast of air, you'll make a lot of dangerous static electricity so have your other hand touch a grounded part of your computer, or don't touch it at all during and for a while after blasting so charge can dissipate.in addition:there is a fundamental mistake in most laptops and in all "cooling pads". if use a laptop on your lap, or a bed, or a carpet, you'll cover up the cooling vents on the bottom of the laptop, so that the cooling fan cannot move any air through. hence the getting hot, and a principle reason the battery heats up and doesn't last very long before it doesn't hold a charge long, and worse, sometimes explodes.it is essential then to ensure that the fan flow of air is not blocked or impeded.i also have a pavillion, and noticed the design error when i first got it. so i devised a remedy. an indication of its success is i'm still on the original battery. heres a link to the pictures of the modification on my website. LINK. lastly, as Shane also pointed out, the direction of airflow is up from the bottom. All cooling fans are "centrifugal fans" meaning that the high pressure is on the outside diameter and the low pressure is at the center of the fan. that would require the laptop makers to channel the flow of air differently. most don't. so if you use a laptop cooling platform, it should of course be blowing air up into the laptop. but they don't. at least the ones i've seen are all backwards. and because the muffin fans are centrifugal, you can't change the flow by changing the motor polarity.on the other hand, if the laptop is simply placed on a flat surface, the proper 1/8 of an inch or so for the air to freely flow into the vents from the sides is provided by the rubber feet that keep it from sliding on a desk. so the cooling platforms work not because of the fans, but because it's a flat surface. you can do the same with a simple piece of wood.

Can you help me with my HP Pavilion g7 annoying problem?

That problem can be caused by many things.
1_ Go to start and type event viewer, and check for critical errors. They should show the time of the restarts, and probably kernel power error (event ID 41 error) .

Update the BIOS
Type msinfo32 into the search bar (for Windows 7/Vista) or the Run box (XP), and click System Summary; your BIOS version/date should show up on the right under your processor speed.
Most newer PCs have a fairly easy BIOS update procedure: Just download it from your PC manufacturer's Website

2_ The thermal paste on heat sink was dried out and causing CPU to over heat
Download this free software and pin it in the taskbar to check if unexpected shutdown happens when CPU temperature is high
Speccy 1.17.340 will give you detailed statistics on every piece of hardware in your computer. Including CPU, Motherboard, RAM, Graphics Cards, Hard Disks, Optical Drives, Audio support. Additionally Speccy adds the temperatures of your different components, so you can easily see if there's a problem!

My HP Pavilion G6 laptop temperature is very high. Why is it?

It could be anything from dust on the inside and the vents to a rogue process hogging up the CPU making it work harder than required. Cleaning your laptop is always a good thing every once in a while. But only do so if you are sure what you are doing, or else get someone who knows these stuff.Check what processes are running, which ones are using the CPU, whether or not they are the ones you need and if not end them or prevent them from running the next time you start your laptop. Perform optimizations like hard disk defragmentation, uninstalling unwanted software, updating device drivers, etc. The ambient temperature also determines how hot a machine is.Get a cooler for your laptop. If it has been quite some time since you've had this laptop then it might be time to change the thermal compound.

Why does my HP Pavilion G7's fan be running on full even when idle? It's 6 or 7 years old.

Several things are possible. The heat sink could be covered with dust. The thermal past could be solid cake with cracks in it by nowair passages could be blocked. The fan controller responds to processor temperature. if the processor is unable to get rid of the heat the fan tries to compensate. My daughter had an Alienware with the same problem. Removing the heat sink and replacing the thermal paste and cleaning everything up brought it back to new-like performance.
