Will a gift card from Starbucks bought in the US be useable in Monterrey MX?

Not a good idea.

Gift cards are bad enough without adding the complication of sending across a border. I'm sure you could think of a gift that REALLY says you care.

Can you use a Target gift card to buy an Amazon gift card in stores? Why or why not?

You're not supposed to be able to buy gift cards with gift cards but many times cashiers or backups don't know/care and may still do it if the POS allows it. Fraud is #2 answer. Stolen credit cards buy gift cards so they can't be cancelled like a credit card can. Then cards are sold/used. I know 100% gift cards cannot buy the visa prepaid cards, it is blocked at POS… if attempted, AP is alerted immediately. Last I know of Target and Amazon didn't play nice with one another… hence the Nook tablet (if it still exists). Target dot com was a direct competitor of amazon and target dot com is actually a seperate entity in itself, confusing and annoying to most people and employees too. (Edit:Target does not own nor has ever been related with owning the Nook. Sorry if that seems implied). Which brings reason #1, they want that money to stay in target's pockets. Essentially they're just holding on to your cash until merchandise is bought. In CA there is no expiration or charge to use the gift card and you can cash out at five dollars which is the min amount to purchase a gift card.

Do you tip at Starbucks? Why or why not?

Yes, bc the employees don't make much money. They are primarily college or fresh out of high school grads, just trying to make a buck. A first job for many of the kids that i supervised on the night shift. They work harder than you think they do. There is a lot of cleaning and meetings before work that can make shifts seem like purgatory. My staff wasn't just kids, but also just ppl trying to get by. They have to split up all the tips and i think the most i ever saw each person make was $15.00 in tips during the Christmas season in my little Florida town. So, be nice and give them a buck for your grande latte. They don't write the menu nor set the prices for the outrageous costs of a frozen coffee slushee. I paid $5.11 for a grande matcha green tea latte yesterday. Wtf gnarbux?

What are some favorite Starbucks (company) hacks?

I'm assuming you mean Starbucks hacks... for customers. But, what are some hacks for BARISTAS? I write a Starbucks blog for baristas and these are some of the hacks baristas use to make your drinks faster: http://www.starbucksfaster.com/p...Level 1 techniques (little to no effect on quality)Make ice drinks as a batch, especially coffees and teas. Pour and ice them all together. Steam enough milk for multiple hot drinks. A pitcher is enough to fill two grandes drinks, if you leave just a little space in each. Shake teas in the cup by putting the shaker lid over it. This will only work for Grandes and Ventis however. (edit: lid doesn’t fully fit on grande cups anymore. may splash when shaking)Blend multiple Frappchinos together. You can do 2 Ventis without holding the lid, 3 Ventis while holding. Top off non/low-fat lattes with the other milk, if you’ve run out of the specified one. No more than a quarter of the cup though. 0.5% or 1.5% fat milk will taste about the same. Level 2 techniques (may effect taste)Serve drinks even if shots are (slightly) expired. Pour a small amount of steamed milk into hot drinks before shooting shots to negate oxidizing espresso, if you don’t have enough milk available to fill the entire drink. Turn espresso grind to coarser to decrease shooting time. Serve or resteam milk that’s been sitting for less than 5 minutes. Temperature should still be above 140 if it had been steamed originally to 155-160. Don’t bother shaking teas, or simply shake it a little after putting the lid on. Eyeball Frappchino ingredients directly into pitcher. If the ice is slightly floating before being blended it’ll be about right. Level 3 techniques (will definitely effect taste and/or health)Serve extremely expired shots. Use a cup and pre-shoot your shots. A short cup will hold 6 shots of espresso. Estimate and pour into drinks as needed. Don’t bother rinsing pitchers. This means you’ll be mixing old and fresh milk together before resteaming (a health hazard). Don’t bother wiping steam wands.

If I take a gift card without a balance, is it stealing?

Throughout every department store, supermarket, shop, etc, there are items used by the store for promotional purposes. If I was a collector of signs advertising chocolates for instance, and I wanted a particular one I saw in a shop, but they would not sell it to me nor give it to me, then I would have to assume that it has value or function to the store. I would have to find another way to gain possession of it rather than just picking it up and walking out with it.

Maybe if he'd approached the manager of the store, he would have had more luck.

Another interesting observation. As you said, the cards themselves are presented as advertising material and are not advertised for sale at any price until a balance is credited to it. Therefore you could argue that just like a business card or take-away menu brochure, they are available for potential customers to pick up and walk away with. In fact, many of those cards have a website offering advertsing material written on them somewhere.

That argument would indicate that it's not stealing. However, any retailer or shop can refuse to enter into a contract of sale with anyone, and I believe they do not need to give a reason. If the goods belong to the retailer and the card was not given nor sold to the customer then to take it without permission is theft.
