Sprained Ankle I Think Help

What is the best thing to do to help a sprained ankle?

I recently sprained my ankle pretty bad in pickup basketball. I've done it before, but this time it was pretty bad. I used to just leave my shoe on and hope that I get home in time to ice it. This time, I immediately went and got ice and put it on the ankle within 20 minutes of spraining it. I'd say this helped more than anything I've done in the past. The swelling overall was much less than I normally have with ankle sprains, and with a simple ankle brace. I used these here: The Best Basketball Ankle Brace: Top 5 List You really are best off with the RICE approach if you're positive it's a sprain. Icing as soon as possible was the best thing I've ever done. Just remember to keep icing as much as possible (20 minutes on and 20 minutes off) for a few hours. Wear a brace if you need to, otherwise just stay off the ankle for a few days.

Help! I think I sprained my ankle?

I was just walking and my ankle rolled under me and I completely fell. I can barely move it because it's so stiff and it hurts to move it the slightest bit. Even if I elevate my foot, it throbs like crazy and feels tight. My entire foot and leg (until about 1/4 up to my knee) is so swollen it kinda looks gross. Like even if you don't compare it, it looks swollen pretty bad, but if you compare it, you can see that it's really swollen. It's like bright purple and blue on the outside of my foot and leg. I think it's a grade 2 sprain (I did my research lol). Anyway it hurts like sh*t and I don't have a brace. I don't think I can walk and it really hurts just to touch my foot to the ground. Should I just rest? I marked where it's bruised (it's not my ankle it's just a pic off the Internet). Do I have to go to the doctor?

HELP!! My 5 year old has sprained her ankle i think.Should I take her to the hospital or just bandage her leg?

I would take her to a walk-in clinic or to her pediatrician before I would subject a 5 year old to a hospital environment. Is she is severe pain? You have to be very careful with ankle injuries....if she can't put her weight down on it, it is likely to be broken or a severe sprain--either of which will require a cast or brace....not just an ace bandage.

I should know...I've had multiple ankle injuries in my life. Once, I hyperextended my right ankle while running--my shoe slipped off the edge of the sidewalk as I was passing someone. I thought it was just a bad sprain and did not seek treatment immediately--I just iced it and wrapped it up. A day later, my foot was so swollen I couldn't put a shoe on and could not put the slightest bit of weight on it. My heel (the talus) was broken in two places and I had ripped 3 tendons loose from the bone. I ended up being out of work for 8 months and having to have a total ankle reconstruction to the tune of about $58,000.

As a mom of three, I would never make my sons sit at home in pain if I was able to take them to the doctor for treatment.

Please help me, my ankle is sprained I think?

Okay, so I know it doesn't seem like much but, I think I may have bad sprained ankle or foot or something, but i'm not sure?
it happened Wednesday night, and i'm in a lot of pain when I try to walk on it. I wanted to know whats up with it, because I hurt it a few months ago when I was sitting on a railing and hopped off of it, kind of landing on my ankle wierd. It HURT really bad to walk on it immediatly after it happened. But I didn't hardly do anything?it eventually resolved itself after a few days of limping. Since then, It's happened a few times on the same foot. I feel like i'm reinjuriing the same injury maybe? It's more of my foot/ankle not just my ankle. I cannot put the arch of my foot down without extreme pain, I have to limp and walk on the side of my foot. I was limping really bad yesterday and it hurt so bad that I was laying in bed and couldn't have it in a comfortable postition so I was balling because of the random pains whenever I moved it wrong. That was the night after I 'hurt' it. I geuss I hurt it when I was dancing, and it popped kind of wierd and it's getting worse and worse I think. It's happened before and I never went to the doctor becasue I wanted to wait for it to resolve itself and it did, but this time it's been 3 days and it still really hurts. My doctor's appt won't be until wednesday But I don't think I can wait that long becasue I can't even walk on my foot! It just hurts. I tried massaging it, pushing on it doens't really hurt. But If I roll my ankle it pops and hurts really bad. I tried to roll my ankle last thursday night to like work it out or soemthing and it made it so much worse whcch was when I was in the most pain. What's wrong with it? Sorry I wrote so much, but my dad thinks it's nothing, and my mom can't find any swelling or bruising, and she doesn't know whats wrong either. Please give me some advice if you have any. THANK YOU.

Sprained ankle should I?

I /think/ I spranined my ankle. Has all the signs really. But I fell off of my bed while I was sitting in the middle of it on my knees, I got really, really dizzy suddenly and next thing I know I hit my head on the wall and fell to the floor. My ankle sharply hit the metal bed frame, peeled some skin off but nothing too bad. I bent my whole leg this terrible way and it was within seconds, swollen. Right after that I raised it and apllied ice and compression. When I first applied the ice it didn't feel cold at all (again NOT after having the ice forever but when I put in on from the START of it, couldn't feel it). I went to move it and it kept making snapping/poping sounds. It hurts pretty bad. It feels pretty cold normally now and is still swollen. I CANNOT kept off of it or rest it very well; I have a brand new baby whom I have to feed every 2-3 hours. It also hurts up my leg and to my knee.
I cannot go to the DR/ER or anything until after my hubby gets home. Long while from now.

How do you heal a sprained ankle?

Ice won't help you after the initial 24 hours. Try filling two buckets with water. One bucket should be filled with ice water and the other should be filled with warm/hot water. Alternate your foot every five minutes for 20 minutes ending in the warm water. You should also stretch your ankle if it is possible. Face a wall and press your hands against it in a sort of standing push up position. Put your sprained foot back as far as possible and try to flatten your foot against the ground. Stretch your ankle twice daily and do the cold/hot treatment once a day. Don't run on your ankle. The best exercise that I found was swimming. Don't do the breaststroke though, the movement might hurt your injured ankle.

What does it feel like to have a sprained ankle?

It hurts. For me, it is also embarrassing, frustrating and inconvenient. I fell off my bicycle at midday on Saturday and landed awkwardly on the road. I managed to stagger to the footpath using my bike as a crutch, but then had to sit on the curb for a few minutes because it hurt too much to do anything else. A passer-by stopped to ask if I needed help, but I was too focused on the pain to hear what he was saying and I thought it was merely a minor strain, so I waved him away. After a few minutes, I was able to get back on my bicycle and ride the 2km home, where I say down, put an ice-pack on my ankle, and elevated it. Even so, after half an hour, it was very swollen and I realised that it was in fact sprained. I bound it in a compression bandage, but by evening, I couldn't walk without crutches and a great deal of pain. Luckily, I had both crutches and serious pain killers handy, as I had surgery on my other foot only a couple of months ago. So although I knew that I should probably go to the emergency department and have it assessed, I instead took some pain killers and went to bed.In the morning, it wasn't any better, so I saw a GP. He approved my bandage, but said that it was so swollen and bruised that a fracture was quite likely, so I still needed to go to ED and get an x-ray. I did: happily, it isn't fractured. The ED staff told me it would take about 6 weeks to heal and referred me for physiotherapy, to start after a week or so.By Sunday evening (the evening of the day after the injury), I was able to walk with a limp, but no crutches. This means it is at the mild to moderate end of a grade II sprain, I think. After a few days, the swelling started going down and purple bruises appeared all over my foot and toes. The bruises aren't particularly sore, but the area that is still swollen is still quite sore, especially when I do anything as taxing as tackle a staircase. The photos below show what the foot looks like today, Friday, almost a week after the sprain. It could have been much worse. Severe sprains can cause permanent injury. There's some more practical information about ankle sprains, severity grading, and treatment herehttp://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic....

Does Bengay help with sprained ankles?

I doubt that it will help. You have muscles that went tight and need to be released to get rid of the pain. Bengay doesn't have any properties in it that will release the muscles that are causing this pain. Here is how you can release the muscles in your foot which should give you some relief:
Foot tendons:
right leg. With your right leg in your lap, place your thumb so it is just above and slightly behind the ball of your foot. Place your fingers on the outside, side facing down now, in about the same position. They both should be on the tendons there. Press in and hold then tight against your foot and hold. After 30 seconds slowly raise your toes up as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your toes up for another 30 seconds. Reverse for left foot

My mom won't believe me that I sprained my ankle! HELP!OW?

rest it on a pillow or something at home. when u told ur mom, have u been maintaining a serious look? if u haven't, look her in the EYE and tell her, "Mom, my ankle REALLY hurts so can you PLEASE take me to the doctor or something? Otherwise something worse might happen and I might bug you even more." If that doesn't work, (oh god it should...) this is time 2 get sympathy the bad way. DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. seriously, i feel guilty just as i'm about to say this. if she's just putting u down, and u feel really frustrated, just cry. just cry. i know ur probably thinking that u can't cry on cue, but believe me, it isn't that hard. see, it's not exactly ON CUE, it's just when u can't take it anymore.

brown dots? it might be something more serious if there's a large number of them...

hope i helped!
