I have in the past taken my daughter about 3rd grade to an American Girl Doll event. She dressed up and took her historical Doll. Pictures! and a luncheon (fancy) I have taken her at 18 years to Universal Studios for the grand opening of a new ride with all the fan fare and prestige of a Holly Wood red carpet. again Photos and fun with a BFF along too. If you don't live in California then find some events that will be happening in your area..the Nutcracker Ballet? A Christmas Carol? at Christmas time or maybe something to give her to look forward to in the Spring like a Tulip Festival garden club extravaganza or Maybe a Hot Air Balloon Ride over miles of your countryside with floating on air lunch basket? Maybe a Kite festival for the most creative High flying contest with full on BarBQ for all her friends watching? Just found that trinkets are often tossed a month or two later and a new Car (every 17 yr olds dream) and a new Computer (necessity for all college students) with all the software might be out of your budget. brandy, first of all please don't do gift certificates, or gift cards. to my way of thinking they just scream out "i couldn't be bothered trying -so here go buy something". of course thats just my thought. but here is what my d.i.l.'s have come up with. my first daughter in law was apparently in the same boat, so she decided to buy me a charm bracelet, not those new-fangled things that are flat, but a proper charm bracelet, and then for special occasions she finds new charms to give me. in fact when they wanted to announce they were expecting their first child, they bought me a baby bootie charm for my bracelet! my second daughter-in-law started me on ornaments. these are 'willow' ornaments, and every christmas i receive a new piece. my third daughter-in-law was at a total loss until one day she overheard me saying i had never had a pedicure or manicure. now, every christmas and birthday i get sent off for both! so think along the lines of my beautiful d.i.l.'s......and find something you can add to as time goes on. good luck!

I work in an office of about 10-12 women. We're a fairly tight-knit group, and almost always get each other something for Christmas. I like to make homemade gifts, assuming that I have the time necessary...but, I've run out of ideas for this year. Does anyone have anything that has worked before? Or just any ideas???

Speaking as a mom myself to two grown sons, I have always enjoyed gifts which didn’t cost money. My favorite gift was a one which has the most meaning. About a month before Christmas 2016, I put in my gift request……. I asked each of my sons to write how I influenced their life and the things they learned from me. They could mention anything what came to mind in any format they chose to express that. All I asked for was that it be framed,When it was time to open gifts, I was brought to tears because I had forgotten some things which they remembered and apparently meant a great deal to them. My younger son’s present was more humorous and made me smile in amusement, Older son was more sentimental and reflective of his personality .So, in answer to your question, I responded with my preference as to what some moms might appreciate. You might also consider something more of a day of pampering such as a gift certificate to a spa for massage, mani/pedi, or facial.If your mom has a hobby or sport she participates in, perhaps you can buy her something which can be used for that activity.Also, donating to a cause in her name which is dear to her also benefits others.Hopefully, some of these suggestions are helpful and also trigger some of your own ideas.
