Stressed Depressed And Lonely . Should I Join The Army

Why do I feel useless, anxious, lonely, depressed and stressed all the time?

It’s called depression and low self-esteem. It’s a clinical illness. It’s not that you are useless, it’s that your mind tricks you into believing you are. You should seek help to help you overcome this, whether it be with a psychiatrist or counselor. Sometimes, it’s from the childhood environment that you grew up in. If you were conditioned to think you’re useless, you’ll feel that you are useless no matter what happens. The simplest thing I usually do is make a list. If I’m too busy, I just make my bed. Even if it means nothing to make your bed, it will help you to see that you did accomplish a task, that is to make the bed. Something so simple can go a long ways. Practice gratitude and positive affirmations of yourself. Tell yourself that you are a good person. You are not useless. You were born in this world for a purpose. I hope you find the answer that you’re seeking for. Remember, you’re reaching out to Quora for answers, which means you did accomplish the most difficult task of all, to ask for help. Awesome job!

Can I join the military with a history of depression?

NO. Do Not Join UNLESS you are no longer experiencing depression, bootcamp will make shit worse for you. Please don’t lie about this we had numerous guys try to commit suicide in bootcamp while one jumped off eagle tower, one cut off his finger with a knife (the drill sergeants had to choke him out cause he kept trying to cut more off) another used a shoe lace to try to hang him self and we had three drink bleach. These were the stories that happened in my platoon and others in my battalion. 1/19 infantry. Some of the shit the drill sergeants do will fuck with your head and some guys break because of it. One guy threw up and the Drill Sergeant made him put it in his pocket. One guy in my platoon didnt eat the whole little chicken they served at chow and he made us give a burial for it outside the chow hall saying that chicken has done more for this country than we have. You will be yelled at from lights on to light out, you will get depressed in bootcamp and if you are already than it will be bad. Once you’re at bootcamp, you’ll be there till graduation whether you drop on the first day or not and some guys break trying to go home. We had numerous try to commit suicide.

I am in the Army, very depressed and anxious, cant even do my job anymore?

Talk to a close family member and the Chaplain. You can get through this. I believe in the following "failure only occurs when you fall down and decide not to pick yourself up again." Yeah you may have fallen and screwed some stuff up, but PICK YOURSELF UP again!!! **** I have faith that you can do it. Talk to your NCO, tell him/her "Corporal (or Sgt) look I've been messing up but I don't want to mess up anymore but I need your help." As an NCO myself, the performance of my Marines is a direct reflection of me. So if any of them were to be all screwed up and approach me like that I would take them under my wing even more than usual to help them out. Just ask for help, admitting your mistakes will show maturity to your NCO, and wanting to correct them will be a huge display of maturity as well. But usually poor work performance has some other personal issues behind it. So figure out what is bothering you and talk to someone; a close friend, Chaplain, medical, a family member. If you fee exiled by your old friends in your unit then try to make new friends. Maybe that along with a fresh start with your NCO by asking for help is just what you need to get out of this rut.

But I KNOW you can make it through this.. Just keep your head up!! You can contact me via yahoo anytime if you just need to talk ok?

Will MEPS reject me from the U.S. Army for this (depression issue)?

Hi, I am a Staff Sergeant in the Army. You can go one of two routes.

First, you could be completely honest. According to Army Regulation 40–501

Current or history of anxiety disorders (anxiety (300.01) or panic (300.2)), agoraphobia (300.21), social phobia (300.23), simple phobias (300.29), obsessive-compulsive (300.3), other acute reactions to stress (308), and post traumatic stress disorder (309.81) are disqualifying.

d. Current mood disorders including, but not limited to, major depression (296.2–3), bipolar (296.4–7), affective psychoses (296.8–9), depressive not otherwise specified (311), are disqualifying.
(1) History of mood disorders requiring outpatient care for longer than 6 months by a physician or other mental health professional (V65.40), or inpatient treatment in a hospital or residential facility is disqualifying.
(2) History of symptoms consistent with a mood disorder of a repeated nature that impairs school, social, or work efficiency is disqualifying.

Your second option is to be quiet about it if it does not effect your daily living and it is an issue of the past. Just remember, the army is stressful.....enough said. Check out the Army Reg for yourself and determine what YOU think you should do.

Is joining the Military while you're suffering from depression a bad idea?

I guess that all depends on what it is that is depressing you. If your feelings stem from your lack of direction in your life, then yes the military may be a good idea for you. On the other hand if you are depressed because of a failed relationship or your trouble with the law and/or drugs it is absolutely the wrong answer. The military is not right for everyone, and being away from your family or at war in iraq may only increase your stress and push you further and further down the path on which you are already finding yourself. So if joining the armed forces is something you are seriously considering then do just that, seriously think about why you want to do it, and join for only the right reasons.

Is it normal to feel depressed before shipping out to basic training?

hey there, I am 20 years old and almost every day of my life i have spent at home with my family. I decided that the Air Force would be the best option to take to get my life started, because although im very good in school i have always found school to be rather boring and i just the discipline i will learn in the military; among other things will be a tremendous step forward in my life. I ship out to basic this month and recently i have been feeling rather depressed: not wanting to get out of bed, sleeping all the time, or not wanting to eat too much, feeling sad, etc. I have always been a very big home body, the only time i have ever lived away from home for an extended period of time was when i moved in with a girl - huge mistake- but i have always been extremely close with my mother, and i have a twin brother that i will be leaving behind, who i have literally done everything with for the past 20 years, I am closer to him then probably anyone; he is my twin brother and everyday of my life, everything i have done he has been there with me, from watching television to playing video games, everything i have done with him... just thinking about that makes me very sad. Not to mention my other family who i am also very close to. Is it normal to feel this way before leaving home? Will it pass? Answers from experience would be most helpful

I'm lonely... should I join the military? What should I do?

Serving your country is an honor, and it is a way to meet guys your age and build that "comradery" of having brothers who always have your back and you have theirs. Friends for life. However, it is dangerous. It is hard work. You will see violence and death up close. You may not come out the way you went in. Some get injured, get PTSD, or just become traumatized by what they experienced and lose some empathy when they return to civilian life. Others come out fine.

It also does have its benefits. You get money to go to college. You get paid.. when you get out you can have thousands saved to live off of if you don't spend it all. If you do get injured, even something mild like a concussion, or broken toe, you can get compensated for the rest of your life. 10%-100% disability can be up to $2500 a month or more for every child/spouse on the first of the month every month for the rest of your life. I'm not saying to go looking to get hurt! lol

You get almost free healthcare (no co-pays if you have purple heart for being injured) through the VA medical centers located nationwide. And you get the respect of anyone that sees your military hat/shirt/bumper sticker whatever. Just make you know what you're getting into. You're signing up for 4 years of prison. They feed you but it doesn't always taste good, the beds suck, you will get super fit because they run you into the ground with drills... but if you get through it to the other side in one piece, the benefits aren't so bad. Just make sure you're doing it for the right reasons... because once you're in, you can't get out until your service is up.
