Student Store Work Counts As Work Experience

If I have work experience while being a full-time masters student in another country, will I be able to apply for Express Entry in Canada?

Hi,This depends on couple of factors:-What Master’s course have you done and in which Country? What is your job profile? What is your total years of experience.Understand that each country/Education Board/University has their own specific regulations in regards to the administration of the course. For Canada, they accept educational assessment and evaluations only from WES. WES will interpret your transcripts and then map it according to its equivalent Canadian education level. Say for example your 2 year full time Master’s Course may either count as 2 years / 1 year equivalent to Canadian Master’s course or it may even counted as NA (0 year) if it does not fit as per Canadian Education standards. As far as job profile is concerned, you can visit CIC website and find if your job profile is in demand or not in Canada. If yes, then you have a good chance through Express Entry provided you are able to get good points.Taking all these factors into consideration, you can take a calculated decision.I hope that helps.Best Regards,Siddharth Sankolli.

No experience college student?

Try snagajob.com. It's where I got my job. Also if you actually go to an employer's website, like Macy's and Sears they have an updated list of job openings. You'll find something, you really just need to spam resumes and applications.

Good Luck!

Does Internships count as Work Experience?

Yes that counts! Absolutely put that down. Any kind of experience you think will help, put down.

I work at Bath and Body Works and it was my first job. I had no work experience to put down so I put down school organizations and volunteer experience... anything that would relate to customer service. I also had some good references.

It's really all about getting an interview, so go to the mall and talk to a manager. Show them an outgoing personality that is enthusiastic about the product. In the interview, try to relate anything to customer service and that you will be the right person for this job

Just beware, this is the end of the holiday season. Almost every retail store in the mall is letting go of all of their extra help so it is going to be hard to find a job there.

One way to break into the retail area is to apply for stock and support positions. They usually hire year round and they usually require a small portion of customer service. If you can prove that you can work well with customers, theyll let you work more in that area too. It's much easier to get jobs in this area because there is a high turnover and nobody particularly likes doing this stuff (except me, I love it! Lol)

Another way is to try and get a job with a friend. Have that friend put in a good word for you and you are almost guaranteed to get the job

How can I get the JOB I WANT (no experience, volunteer work, help, tjmaxx)?

literally on of my favorite stores is being built within driving/walking /bus range (tjmaxx) and I am just dying I've been wanting to work there since forever. I always wanted to work in retail especially there.Sad thing is I've had ZERO job experience I've been job searching I've had some nibbles but it hasn't gone farther than the interview(im so shy !, I know its terrible I have severe anxiety and it comes out of NOWHERE it kills me ) but yeah.. I am 19 I am thinking about doing volunteer work for a couple months maybe. and by then maybe tjmaxx will be searching for workers I'm not exactly sure who to contact before hand about applications just I see tjmaxx has a online app. I've honestly wanted no other jobs other than this and now its a possibility. I'm always majoring in business management I think retailers like that. Just I have no experience. so I'm hoping maybe the volunteer work could help ?

as of lately I have stopped job searching just because of school I have a tough semester. But I'm willing to work my schedule for one of m y dream jobs.

No job experience but . . .?

I am a 24 year old college student but have no job experience. So I cannot use my other job experience in my interview. So will telling them the following work? Can I talk about how I am always on time for my class and that I am usually in class 15 to 20 minutes before class begins? If class begins at 9AM, I'm in class or in the hallway waiting at 8:40AM or 8:45AM. (in hallway because another class is using the room).

What kind of work experience is required prior to pursuing an MBA in India? Should he take up a job in the field he wants to do his MBA? Should he try different industries to determine the best fit?

Thanks for A2A.All genuine questions ... but perhaps not the real question that you should be asking yourself before doing MBA.I will try and answer all of them ..1. Yes relevant work experience is always better than non-relevant work experience. 2. Trying different things at young age never hurts. What really hurts is not being able to convey it on your CV or in the interview appropriately.3. Working in bank is not completely necessary. Corporate Finance or Financial consulting are equally relevant. Ofcourse, back office functions that are completely non-related to finance wont help either.4. 95+ is not a strong CAT score. 98+ (with consistency across sections) is. And, no one expects a fresher to have a a management job role before MBA.5. NGO volunteering is a bit of hoax. And interviewers make that out if its done recently only. I would suggest that learning a new language is a better CV booster and a real asset for the future.6. Well, to bluntly answer prima facie ... the private bank. However, it would all depend on the real job profiles.7. Elite MBA programme in my mind is IIM A, B and C and ISB (only a personal opinion). The requirements are pretty simple for IIMs ... crack the CAT and the interviews. Work experience counts .. but has a smaller weightage. Unless, you work at a brand, it doesnt really count at the IIMs. For ISB, crack the GMAT and have a strong work ex of over 3 years. It helps to have a well-rounded CV. Build ur profile with languages, travelling, sports, etcHope this helped. Now, I would just venture to say that these are very defensive questions. Not the real questions that help you take a decision. The real question is "Why do you want to do an MBA?" This requires a lot of thinking. Be brutally honest to yourself. Answers could be :1. Genuine interest in learning about "business" 2. Meeting 100-400 young intelligent exciting people3. Getting a big dream job4.Taking a break to explore yourself over a period of 1 - 2 years 5. Social prestige6. Proving something to your family members7. Doing it because everyone is doing it etc etc etc ...Be brutally honest. Once you have the master question answered, all other questions are just derivatives. You will answer all the 7 questions you asked differently every single time if your main motive to doing a MBA is different !Hope this really helped ! All the best !

Does doing own business will count as experience?

I'm always surprised to hear the question “does this count.” Of course it counts. Anything you do counts. The question is if it is applicable. My assumption here is does it count as experience finding a job? If the job is being a fry cook at a fast food restaurant, it shows you worked, and that's about it. If you are applying for the operations director at a new facility, it will count much more….assuming you can show that you had some success. The trick with owning a business is showing that it wasn't a dodge to make yourself feel like you were working, but it was a serious endeavor and you had some success. After all, if you own a business, and were totally successful, you wouldn't (usually) be looking for a new job. So, showing that you did more than just pose, you really ran a business and had some success will “count” if the experience is applicable. (After all, if you were a hall of fame pro athlete it doesn't really apply when you are seeking work as an actuary.)

Is working in the family business a valid work experience for admission in top 20 MBA colleges?

As long as the company is a registered entity and you can produce a valid appointment letter / proof of employment letter or salary credit proof, it will be counted as valid work experience. Although, do note that work experience accounts for a very small % in calculating the total score of a candidate (at least in case of IIMs & XLRI).Now, from campus placements point of view, it may be useful to have a clearly defined understanding on roles and responsibilities of this job. Try and outline few outcomes that you managed to achieve during your stint in family business and quantify them. In case of family business experience, recruiting companies tend to prod the candidate a bit more. Also, dear friend, a little advice - be careful about writing phrases such as “shitty job at E&Y” online. The world is small and such outbursts in public domain may cause trouble later :) Every organization googles every candidate before completing the hiring formalities and you really don’t want this popping up just in case you are interviewing with E&Y sometime in your life (you never know!)
