Is it ok to take a shower after suffering an ankle sprain?

Unless you have an open wound or a non-removable cast, there is no reason not to shower. Just be sure to have something to hold onto or to sit on in the shower as your balance will be off and you do not want to further injure the ankle. As one of the others here mentioned, "society will thank you for showering"...

I suffered a sprain which lead to swelling and pain in my ankle. After a month, I took the medicines given by the doctor, even put a slab and crepe bandage. Why is there still pain and swelling?

I had a ligament tear that took 20 years to get fixed.  I injured my ankle in high school running down a hill. For 6 weeks I used crutches until I could at least walk on it again.  For years, I would tell my doctors that my ankle was swollen and painful and they would tell me to ice it, which did nothing. Finally, I saw a Podiatrist who first took x-rays, then bone scans and gave me injections to rule out bone injuries and other sources of swelling and pain.  Finally, I was given an MRI and the tear in my ligament was found. Ligament injuries can be difficult to diagnose and treat without advanced imaging and surgery, which is expensive so the insurance company if you have one may require many other procedures before authorizing MRI.  Finally, I had surgery to repair the ligament, which included autodonation from my Achilles tendon, required 8 weeks of not walking on the ankle and a year of physical therapy, but I am very happy with the outcome.  See a podiatrist who specializes in foot and ankle surgery for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Should I run if I have a sprained ankle?

How am i going to take a shower with my sprained ankle?

Get a strong, steady chair and put it in the shower for you to sit on.
If not have a bath that way you don't have to put any weight on your ankle.
Unless your ankle is broken and in a cast you don't need to wrap your ankle in a bag.
You only have to wrap your ankle in a bag if you have a cast on because if the cast gets wet it will fall apart, so the bag is only there to stop it getting wet.

I have suffered form ankle sprain a number of times. Even after recovery it pains a lot when I run or do exercise. What should I do?

At first you recheck xray report of your ankle. I think that it may be bone crack in your ankle. If it is, I will suggest for orthopedic surgent. But if you undergo through pain troubles, you may go to chiropractors. They can heal your pain quickly and make you pain free. Should I wrap my sprained ankle while I sleep? ?

I would think it would be fine to wrap it. After all if you were in the hospital all night they'd keep it wrapped too.

It depends on the severity of the sprain, take it slow and don’t force it. One exercise that is easy to do and can be done anywhere is to make the alphabet with your ankle. My doctor gave me this exercise after a second degree sprain, it helped me gain strength again in my ankle. Draw each letter with your ankle, you will see it makes you move it every direction.

Sprained Ankle Still Hurts 2+ years later?

I believe that your ankle sprain did not heal properly. Since you are doing a lot of sport, I believe you are only agitating the injury further or you have since re injured the ankle. You really need to treat your ankle properly by using ice for any swelling for 15 to 20 minutes three to four times a day. Wrap an Ace bandage or an ankle brace around your ankle for support. Elevate your ankle while you are sitting down or lying in bed. Try to keep as much weight off of the ankle as possible. If you keep having a lot of problems while you are walking, you may need to use crutches. You really should be taking it easy right now and let your ankle heal so you do not have problems for the rest of your life. I also agree with the above post about physical therapy. PT could help strengthen your ankle and keep you from injuring yourself further.

I sprained my ankle, and need a shower. What do I do?

Sponge bath in front of the sink?

Lean against the wall or use a upside down platic bucket to sit down on.

Your going to have to start moving the joint soon, or the muscles and tendons will shorted up and make for a longer recovery.
