Swollen Lip Ring Not Infected

How do I know if my lip piercing is infected?

I just recently pierced my bottom lip and I clean it like crazy cuz i'm paranoid about infection. But now there's redness around the ring and inside my lip where the ring goes through there's a big bump and i'm wondering what i should do,can someone please help me A.S.A.P?

Is my lip piercing infected?

No white pus is normal.
You should be using an alcohol-free mouthwash, not normal mouthwash.
Here is the proper aftercare-
For the inside of your lip: brush your teeth and then rinse your mouth with alcohol-free mouthwash.
For the outside of your lip: Wash the lip with unscented, anti-bacterial soap. Then mix 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized sea salt with 8 oz. distilled water and soak the lip in that.
You should be cleaning it about 3 times a day, or whenever you eat.
Are you sure it was white pus coming out? With lip piercings, there are white little lumps that come out the inside of the lip. They're just white blood cells that form into tissue that are trying to heal your lip and they're completely normal.
The same thing happens for everyone.

My lip piercing hurts but not infected?

Swollen lymph nodes/glands? Infected lip piercing? Could they...?

Lymphs help regulate the body, so it is almost definately a result of the infection

What should I do if my lip piercing is swollen?

Lip piercings are prone to infection. The first thing you should do—but only if you can see both the front and back of whatever piece of jewelry or appliance you have in there—is to remove your jewelry or appliance. If the lip continues to swell, the tissue can actually grow over or envelop the ends—especially the one in your mouth, making it very difficult to remove later. A surgical removal is sometimes all that's possible, if that happens. If any pus or other material drains from the holes, allow it to flow freely. Don't stop it. Use warm compresses to help draw out the infection, and do warm salt water swish and spits. All that said, this is your face! Please see a doctor right away. If your piercing is infected—and it may be, even if you don't see pus, you will need antibiotics. Sometimes a pus pocket forms more deeply, and this would need to be lanced for healing to begin. It could even be an infected tooth that's causing the swelling. The same care and advice apply. This is why it's important that you see a doctor for a full evaluation and proper treatment right away. Diagnosing something like this properly online is not possible.

Lip piercing infection bump(photo inc.)?

A bump does not equal infection. Unless you have bright redness, swelling (the lip, not the bump), a dark and/or bloody discharge, and pain, you very likely do not have an infection. This kind of bump is very common with lip piercings. Basically, your body is trying too hard to heal itself and is overcompensating by producing too much tissue.

The first think I would recommend you do is chamomile tea bag soaks twice a day. Chamomile is a natural anti-inflammatory, and has worked very well for other people with problems like yours. Take a chamomile tea bag, steep it in hot water, then apply the bag directly to the bump for 10 minutes (after it cools enough not to burn). Second, try to identify anything that may be irritating your piercing. Bumps like this are often the result of some irritant, and getting rid of the source of irritation can fix it. Is your jewelry the proper size? If your stud is the original, you likely need a shorter one. Movement of the jewelry can cause a lot of irritation. Do you chew on your lip or your jewelry? Even doing so sporadically can cause problems. Is the angle of the piercing off to where the back does not sit flush with your lip? What do you use for aftercare? Do you use a mouthwash that contains alcohol? Do you eat a lot of spicy or acidic foods? Do you drink a lot of soda? All these things can contribute to bumps. If you cannot identify any source(s) of irritation and chamomile doesn't work, you can try aspiring pastes. Crush up a non-coated aspirin, add a little water to make a paste, then apply it directly to the bump. Rinse off after 5 minutes. Be very careful not to get it on the healthy tissue as it's very caustic, and use it no more than once a day. Aspirin pastes should be a last resort, only use them if all else fails. I don't generally recommend using them inside the mouth because of the potential for chemical burns, but it can be pretty effective when gentler methods don't work.

You are welcome to ask your doctor about the bump, but you will likely be told to simply remove the piercing, which is probably not necessary. You may also be given antibiotics, which is really not necessary, since you have a bump, not infection. I would never tell someone to disregard a doctor's advice, but I really think your piercing is savable, and I really don't think antibiotics will fix your bump.

I pierced my own lip and now its swollen?

you should have used a HOLLOW NEEDLE, not a safety pin. there needs to be skin that comes out of the needle to make room for a piercing. it's not like ears, it's a different type of tissue.

take it out or you could have this weird piece of skin that'll form and get hard. it's nasty.
also lip rings are a bigger gauge than earrings. take it out and let it heal and have a professional do it.

How do you treat a lip ring infection?

Lip ring infection means infection from piercing is not so simple. So use medical treatment or consultancy than home remedies. You can get some help afterwards of the medical treatment then some resources.

Lip piercing Swelling.?

I had my lip pierced Monday and it is now Thursday morning. No pain. No discoloration. No gross discharge. Nothing that would leave me to believe it's infected. I have also been very careful about cleaning regularly and properly and I have been overzealous with alcohol free mouthwash.

The swelling though keeps getting worse. I admit I did forget about ibeprofen and only started sucking ice yesterday. It is worse in the mornings and today the post was almost invisible. It has gone down in the hour I have been awake but I am still worried. I went to the piercer yesterday to have her take a look at it and she said it looked like it was healing beautifully.

Is my paranoia unwaranted?
is it normal for it to look like it is receding into the skin in the mornings?
When will the swelling finally be at its worse so it can start to lower?
And finally is there anything I can do along with the ice and ibeprofen to quicken the alleviation?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Healed lip piercing is swelling badly?

It is now November and I have had snakebites since the beginning of June. Before I left for college in August I saw my piercer and he said that they were healed up nicely. However, yesterday I noticed some slight swelling and pain on one side. They have not had any swelling since July, when I switched from rings to studs. But I cleaned it before bed and assumed it was just a little irritated from my playing with it or something like that.

When I woke this morning, both sides of my lip are VERY swollen and the piercings are embedded in my lip! If I push it forward with my tongue I can see that around the outside the skin is white just around the piercing and then bright red just outside that. I cleaned them well and I've been awake for almost an hour but they don't seem much better. Could they possibly be infected? What would cause an infection in a healed piercing?
