Do you think it's right that people take medication to not be depressed anymore?

I think it’s right to use medication for it’s purpose, but I think it’s wrong how it is primarily done - at least here.America is the number one users of antidepressant medication in the world. And right now, the leading prescriber of antidepressant medication is your family doctor.…and the average family doctor spends about 8 minutes with patients.8 minutes. No thorough clinical assessment, no exhaustive medical review, no talking with the patient about therapy in a useful educational way…nothing. This horrifies me for so many reasons. While I think it’s fine to prescribe medications, it should be done *along with* therapy, and should be done *by a psychiatrist* who can assess you properly, monitor you accordingly, and collaborate with a therapist for your best outcomes. To me, we are very quick to jump to meds for our first (and only) solution…it’s quick, easy, and takes less time than just about anything else…we’re all in a rush - but that shouldn’t be at the expense of our health.Studies show that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is just as effective as antidepressant medications…and tends to last longer.I’m not opposed to medication - and sometimes they are needed, but giving meds is made worse when given quickly, without thorough assessment, without collaboration with a therapist, and usually without effective follow-up.If you want to do it right, see a psychiatrist for a medication assessment…or better yet, see a psychologist who will work with you, and then refer you to a psychiatrist if they feel you need additional medication assistance - who will assess you thoroughly, follow up with you to get you on the right dose, and work together to get you to where you need to be.

Talking medication when not needing to?

codeine is addictive. Apart from that, all medication has side effects (kidneys, liver, stomach, etc), even if you need them. But if you need them, you can't help taking them. If you don't need them, you only have the side effects, plus the quantity taken is bigger and the side effects are bigger.

Medications During Military Boot Camp...?

Prescriptions. You will not be allowed to continue to take any prescription medication that you may bring with you (this is because there is no way to tell if you've substituted a prescription for an illegal narcotic). However, your prescription will be examined by a military doctor after arrival, and -- if necessary -- you will be re-issued the medication from the military pharmacy. Ladies, this applies to birth control pills as well. You may continue to take birth control pills during basic, but your prescription will be re-issued by the military pharmacy. Over-the-counter medication is not allowed in basic training. If you bring any with you, it will be taken away.

Best thing to do is go to WalMart or Walgreens to the Medical Clinic and ask for a prescription. Tell them you are going into the military and that you can't take OTC meds with you. Take that to boot camp and have them give it to you.

What happens if you take medication for an illness you don't have?

It fucks you up. Especially if it's an antipsychotic or a mood stabilizer. If your brain isn't in need of chemical balance and you take medication that is to do that, then imagine all the awful things that can start happening to your brain functioning.Example, I'm bipolar and take Lithium, and several other mood stabilizers and antidepressants… if someone without any “mental illnesses” took my medication to say, 'get high' I would imagine they'd be in for a helluva wake up call, maybe even death. (Death if they take a lot of something they shouldn't because they don't know how it will interact with their mind and body and they overdose.)DON'T TAKE PILLS THAT AREN'T PRESCRIBED TO YOU!!!!!!

Will taking medications while fasting break your fast?

If you have a medication that does not have to be taken with food, then it should not break your fast. Many pills have some fillers, but in such a small quantity that it would not affect fasting. Take with water, if possible.Watch out for any liquid medications or vitamins, which often contain sugar for flavoring. For example, I use flu and cough medication in pill form rather than liquids which are full of sugar. Most pharmacies can provide sugar-free options upon request, but artificial sweeteners have a negative impact on your microbiome, so avoid if possible.I would recommend if you can adjust the timing of taking any liquid medication or any medication that requires food to your typical feeding window - or move your feeding window to fit your medication.
