They also won the CONCACAF Champions League this year, which is the continental competition putting the best teams in North America up against each other. They also recently played a friendly against Manchester United in the U.S. Although they didn't win and friendlies don't mean anything, the fact that the friendly was set up shows that they have a strong reputation in Mexico and internationally.
