The Defense Said That Zimmerman And Trayvon Exchanged Words When They First Encountered Each Other

What's wrong with a Neighborhood "Watch" volunteer with monitoring a suspicious person walking around their?

He was the self-appointed "Neighborhood Watch" "hall monitor", and he was armed, which they are NOT supposed to be. And he was NOT a part of any organized Neighborhood Watch movement, nor was he acting within their parameters.

And he didn't just monitor this minor, he killed him. Even if the matter involved some weird sort of self-defense, at the very least there are questions of aggravated assault that really should be asked, especially since one of the few things we know to a certainty is that he was told NOT to follow the kid.

If this guy was "attacked", it was by a desperate kid who knew he was going to die, one way or the other, if he didn't do something. I've been in the same situation with a lunatic, and managed to disarm him and call a cop. Nobody got shot in that episode, and because he was stoned out of his mind and injured, it wasn't really necessary to hold the pistol on him to hold him. Interestingly, I was then investigated! No charges were filed, ultimately, when it was discovered that my assailant had a long history of armed robbery and assault, as well as massive drug use, including several convictions, but I was still detained and questioned closely. He was later tied to a murder during a strongarm robbery.

The gun was stolen, and of course, by the time the police got there, had my fingerprints all over it. And it had a "body" on it. If there hadn't been a pair of eyewitnesses, who knows what might've happened? Many police agencies would've tried to infer that was MY handgun!

Even if you believe this guy acted in self-defense, there really is a serious issue as to why he wasn't even heavily questioned, especially since the deceased was a minor.

Can you argue self-defense if you attack someone because you're scared of what they're doing to you?

In the UK, it will be classified as self-defense.If you truly have a phobia of spiders, and this person knows it but proceeds to hang it in front of your face, petrifying you and throws it at you, UK law sees it as a response done in the heat of the moment.Nevertheless, even if that person does not know that you have a phobia of spiders and has flung that spider on to you, you may not be guilty of assault as UK law has this rule, to take a man as you find him. For example, a boy decides to play pranks on his old aged neighbour, but he does not know that the old neighbour is susceptible to heart attacks, the boy may be guilty of involuntary manslaughterHowever, if that person has not flung that spider on you, and you punched him. You will be guilty of assault. Unless Arachnophobia is a medical condition recognized by UK courts, the act of punching someone will be disproportionate to the fear projected by that person holding the spider.Unless of course, that person has flung the spider on you and you proceed to punch them 10–15 mins after that incident, you will be guilty of assault. UK Law sees that as a premediated act, the span of time between the triggering event and the reaction is the point of distinction between an assault and an act done in self-defense.

What is the liberal fascination with promoting Muslims and Islam?

There's not so much “fascination” or “promotion” as concern and defense. Muslims, 1.6 billion of them, are being deemed, en bloc, a priori hatemongers and possible terrorists by bigoted and fearful people. Trump’s election has catalyzed an uptick in hate crimes. When an infinitesimal minority of a huge group of people has induced the uninformed to mistreat, misjudge, and persecute countless innocent people — when an untrue caricature obscures the importance of judging individuals by the content of their character — it is (or should be) a liberal imperative to seek an understanding of the facts and to protect the civil rights of individuals.Had more people worked harder to debunk Nazi pseudoscience and combat antisemitism in Germany, things might have worked out better. That some of Hitler's victims were saved has everything to do with the kind of fellow-feeling and care that you, a “pretty far left guy,” find incomprehensible when applied to Muslims.I find your incomprehension incomprehensible, OP. I have no special fondness for Islam — or for any Abrahamic religion. I'm an atheist. But I am concerned with how its practitioners behave, and not with policing thought. Aren't you?
