The Mailman Stole The Contents Of My Package And Left It On My Porch Even Though I Had Signature

USPS said that my package is delivered at my front door/porch But I don't see the package. What do I do?

first you need to contact the post office assigned to your area ASAP just in case there’s a misdelivery it can be corrected if possible. The new scanner USPS use now has a gps tracking on it so if the carrier followed the proper procedure and scanned it in front of your doorstep they will see it in the system. Now if your package was stolen you can file a case the only issue here is package is if it is a standard mail the chances of you getting a refund is slim to none. USPS offers a variety of service that has insurance base or assurance base for example if the sender mailed using a certified mail the package requires signature by the addressee and can’t be released without the actual presence of the addressee.

I believe someone is stealing packages off of my porch, what can I do?

Some vendors will send packages to a drop-off location like a drugstore or business. Perhaps that is an option for you. Otherwise, you might restrict package delivery, “signature required” so that the package will not be left where it can be stolen. Delivering it to your office is another possibilityObviously, you should complain to the merchant and to the postal authorities or UPS or Fedex. Some will redeliver a replacement as a goodwill gesture. Packages stolen from the mail are also a matter for postal inspectors. That is why many con artists will use something other than the US mail in their crimes. Stealing from the US mail can be a federal crime with serious time involved.

Who can sign for a FedEx package? What happens if someone else signs for you?

Unless the shipper requires a direct signature (anyone who is a legal resident or employee at the location) or and Adult signature (someone over 18) anyone can sign. You, your kids, your neighbor or the courier can take a signed note or simply leave the package without a signature.

Will the USPS deliver a package to my door if, in the address line 2, I say "deliver to front door"? The USPS sometimes delivers to my door if the package is large.

Carriers have to be quick and efficient. If you want it at your door but it fits in your box the carrier will be the deciding factor. If they strive more for efficiency they will bring it to your door. If they strive more for speed, they will put it in your box. Leaning one way or the other will make one of these qualities suffer. That is why most people get the wrong mail in their box because speed is the most prized quality in an employee.

Is UPS responsible for compensating me if a package that says "signature required" is left on my porch without one and stolen?

First, check and see if anyone signed for the package and make sure a signature was, in fact, required for delivery. Also make sure no one pre-signed for it on the UPS web site (if you did that and didn't realize what you are doing, you are screwed - not knowing what you were doing is no excuse).Assuming you did not pre-sign and UPS has no signature on file, then yes, they are required to make it right. You will need to inform them the package was not delivered and let them take it from there. If there is a signature on file for the delivery, then you are going to have to prove a). it is not your signature; and b). the person who signed for the package was not authorized to receive it on your behalf. If they determine the package should not have been left, they will most likely arrange for a replacement rather than compensate you directly (but I am less sure of that).

What should I do if my neighbor signs for and steals my FedEx package? FedEx says a neighbor can sign for my package, but I didn’t consent to this.

The obvious would be to ask him for the package, pointing out that you have proof that he signed for it.Of course if he wants to say he no longer has it or “I gave it to you” or “I left it on your porch,” you might be stuck.Admitting he gave it away or tossed it might be enough for you to force him to pay for the item … all assuming he’s willing to repeat that in court. He probably won’t though, so it’s he says / she says.Indicating that he left it on your porch might be grounds for compensation too if he says he left it right where anyone driving or walking down the street could see it. That’s irresponsible and it might rise to the level of no due care. But that all assumes he doesn’t claim (in court) that he hid it out of view. And “I gave it to you” is another he says / she says. Can you prove he didn’t? Probably not.Yes, the neighbor can sign unless the shipper sends it and says that only you can sign. They can leave it sitting right on your porch (might as well put a Take Me sign on it) if no signature is required. That’s the way FedEx and UPS work.Maybe you can get somewhere with the shipper if you can convince them your neighbor stole it.For the future: get an account with FedEx and UPS. They’re free and they let you redirect packages to a FedEx or UPS location or independent “store.” There’s no charge for the redirect and you can pick them up at your leisure. You can now redirect without waiting for one delivery attempt and they’ll hold it even if a personal signature with ID is required.

Is it illegal to open, intentionally, a Federal Express or messenger package addressed to someone else that is delivered to you?

Not really. Lots of people do it by accident. Only then realize that the package isn't theirs. And then call us retrieve it. Doesn't happen very much though. Whether the package is addressed to your office or house, FedEx delivers by address. We view the package as being delivered correctly, if the package is at the address that is on the shipping document. You have to call us and tell us it isn't yours. This happens frequently with business packages, as the company' address might still be correct, but the person left the company and the package is a personal item. We don't know every person in a company or household. I do not represent my answer as officially from FedEx.
