The Male Media Mind Learning How To Live

Why are gay men interested in learning sign language?

That's a good question! I can't speak for the men, but....

I went to a sign language immersion camp for adults for a week last summer, and my friend and I met no less than 11 definite lesbians/bi grrls out of the 100-110 male and female campers there. (Do the math...even if more than half the campers were women, say 60-70, 11 is considerably more than 10% of the womyn! And that's just the ones I 'spoke' to who were definitely out.)

When I go to a women's monthly dance, I often go with a friend who is Deaf, and some of her Deaf lesbian friends and their hearing girlfriends, and there are some other hearing lesbians who go there who are taking or have taken sign language courses. So sometimes there are as many as a ten or perhaps a dozen womyn there speaking in sign. (The bit about it being handy in loud bars and dance clubs is so true! I love not having to yell!)

And at the Toronto Pride parade, there are always 1-2 Deaf Gay groups represented inthe community fair/marketplace.

One thing I think these two groups have in common, is that both gays and Deaf people are apt to be brought up by parents who are different than them (straight/hearing). So both groups actively seek out others from their own subculture, beyond the family unit.

And, akin to straight parents who pressure their queer kids, Deaf people often face prejudice from hearing family members who insist they become 'normal' by learning to read lips and speak, although sign language is a fully functional and complex language, and actually facilitates learning much more easily at higher levels and a faster pace, for Deaf folks. (And it's actually about the 4th most-used language in North America, after English, Spanish and French.) So, we have a lot in common!

Can one live happily without social media?

Why not?Let me tell you my own experience-I’ve deactivated my Facebook since 2014- It’s almost going to be 3 years and the benefits have been great. I’ve saved a lot of time I would have spent chatting away with fake people and begging for validation.I’m not on Instagram/Snapchat/Twitter either- I joined all three sometime this year and literally it didn’t take me 1 week to delete my accounts on each one of them. I was tired of the constant need of self validation on these forums too.The only thing I use is Whatsapp messenger because I need it to communicate important things with people. I use it only to a specified limit to gain best benefits out of it as well.Staying away from social media saves you between 1–3 hours per day. Imagine yourself saving 3 hours everyday for 365 days. This gets you- 365*3= 1095 hours in an year. You could do a whole lot of other things in that time such as-Learn certain grades of a languageLearn instrumentsSpend time for your passionRead booksCommunity workExercise & fitnessAttend workshopsSocialize with people in real lifeSportsThis decision is totally worth it. You also save yourself from a lot of screentime due to this decision and save your eyesight for the better. You save the posture of your neck- A Modern Spine Ailment: Text NeckThere was a time when social media didn’t exist. Those time produced great people as well whether it be Aristotle, Socrates or Newton. It is totally worth it because you don’t really gain much from social media. What are you gonna do with those Likes? Followers? Hearts? They are just token gestures of appreciation. Nothing more.

What are the lessons people most often learn too late in life?

That’s why Quora is much better than facebook.3) If a person wants to stand by their self then let them because there is nothing wrong in doing by their self.4) Nobody will come to pick you up in your bad times except your family . Hence, value them .5) Love is a second thing ,First learn to respect your lover.6)Stop wasting time on a person who doesn’t deserve your attention.7) Showing respect to helpers & waiters would not degrade your position.8) Our words might kill someone ,We should think twice before using them.Choose it wisely.9) Intelligence beats size.10) We should never give up because sometime great things take time to happen.LEARN FROM YOUR FAILURES. No one is perfect in life. We all makes mistakes, but person who learns from their mistakes or failures are the one who creates history.11) Physical fitness is important. It affects your intellect, mood, and relationship to others. Go to bed early. Wake up early. Sleep well. Eat well. Stay fit. Exercise Regularly. You only get one body, so don’t neglect it.12) Drinking alcohol and doing drugs or smoking cigarettes will at last get you to the death bed at an early age. Its looking stylist to other but actually it is a classy way to commit suicide. Avoid them.13) Developing skills will get you to a reputed post and that in turn will earn you a decent amount of money as well as respect. So start working hard on your dreams. Why can't people mind their own business?

This is about the time when facebook was very popular in my school, every kid was crazy about it and uploading photos, videos, tagging people, showing off. Then some day one kid asked our physics teacher “why is facebook so popular” and beautifully answered by our teacher “because people are more interested in other's life than their own”Call it general human behaviour, but people are really more interested in other's lives. You get your results, you are keen to know about your friend's result. You get to know about an accident, you stop and start recording it.You achieve something, you want to know what someone else achieved. This is still not bad because this is the purpose of living in a society. We should be knowing about others too, or else why not spend our lives in isolation. But few people took it to the next level. When just knowing wasn’t enough. They starts bothering you with useless questions, suggestion and advice ( even though a lot of people are there to really help too ) which you don't want simply because you realise its your life and not theirs and you know how to handle.Thats the point when people start asking why dont you mind your own business? Answer is simple because they are done with their work and now they need something to interest them and human are really interested in other human lives.Have you ever seen a busy person minding someone's else business. No, because he got no time for it.It the job of those who have time to discuss others.Great mind discuss ideas, average mind discuss events and small mind discuss people. ~ Eleanor RooseveltOnce you start ignoring them, they will stop minding your business and find someone else to bother. They bother you because they know you will be bothered. Stop giving them your priceless time they will stop giving you their useless time.Thats human behaviour too.If you want a sarcastic reply to it, have this one :-P

SubhanAllah. Allah surely does give everyone a chance to learn about Islam, in his special way.?

Ok, so basic background about me and the question I had in mind. I grew up in USA and almost all my close friends, etc. are non-Muslim. So I had a question in mind, how is it fair to all those good individuals who didn't grow up Muslims to go to hell in the Hereafter.
When I asked this question to a scholor, he said everyone does have a chance to learn about Islam, I couldn't understand how this to clearly.

First to make things clear in Islam if you die before maturing (puberty) as a non-Muslim you will still go to Heaven.

So anyways Islam is spreading rapidly, it is the fastest growing religion, in fact just today I heard about an orginization that makes copies of the Qur'an translation and sends them to houses with a lovely note saying its a gift, and if they don't want it call a number and someone will pick it up.

But what about the places where Muslims aren't around to spread it?

Allah has his own ways, I realized living in USA, specially around a 'white', 'country' area, people still hear about it--- the Media, probably the strongest voice in the Universe.

Although we hear negative things in the media-- people SHOULD question themselves "How in the world is the largest GROWING religion, and the 2nd biggest religion after christianity (which includes, cathloic, orthadox, and 100+ different types)....how in the world can this many people follow a religion that teaches killing, violence, etc?" Simple answer stop listening to CNN, FOX, etc. and do research, it is the biggest discussed religion in America, and it isn't the religion of the country. Most christians (those just by the name) know more about Islam than they do their own religion!
Its amazing how the word can be spread and when people actually do the research, for an UNBIASED PERSPECTIVE all their questions are answered!

Islam has many, many approaches, my favorite, scientific evidence, spritual, moral, and many many more. Quran really is the guidance to life!

That being said, ask yourself, do you know about judaism, buddism, hinduism, the most word you hear is about ISLAM doesn't that make the non-Muslims as well as Muslims expand their knowledge and learn what it TRUE!

Alhumdulillah.
