There Is A Weird Lump Back Behind My Ear / Near The End Of My Jaw Line

What are the causes of a hard lump under the skin of the jawline?

Depending on the size and location of the lump under the jaw or “"mandible” you could be feeling a salivary gland or lymph node. As far as glands are concerned, the submandibular gland is the likeliest culprit, especially if you have tenderness in the area of the lump. The lymph nodes under the jawline are in the “cervical chain” and can be enlarged or inflamed due to several conditions. Inflammation of the oral cavity or throat can lead to enlarged lumps under the jawline which are most likely lymph nodes responding to a viral infection. This is the most likely cause of your lump.

Side of neck hurts near jawline and ear?

When you have an injury like that you end up with muscles tight in your neck and it's like they lock the pain there and it remains until it's released. Pain killers seldom do much to help these types of pains. When your neck was going one way and your body the other is when things tightened up in your neck. Here is how to release your neck muscles to get rid of that pain:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. After 45 seconds, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
With your neck in the lowered position, replace your thumbs in under the ears and your fingers behind your head but right next to your skull this time. Press your fingers and thumbs together again and hold. Relax your body while waiting. When the muscles have all released, slowly lift your head until it’s level again, release the pressure but hold your head like that for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax you body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

What would cause a lump under my ear and near my jaw line?

Everything is age dependant but a parotid gland tumor would be high on the list. The alternatives include swollen lymph nodes and skin cysts. In skin cysts, they will move with the skin. With Deeper lesions the skin will move over them. Your surgeon can make the distinction.

I have this thing behind my ear lobe and it hurts. What is it?

What you have is surprisingly common. I have it and many other people I have talked to have had it as well.

Sounds to me as if you have a sebaceous cyst - a lot less terrifying than it sounds. Basically it is a mass of fluid or tissue that has collected in yoru ear lobe.

You can get them removed surgically which I have done before and would not recommend, as they tend to come back. I believe you can also "pierce" it if it feels very liquidy and it will drain. From my experience though, they are more or less something you have to deal with. Surgery was not worth the time, effort, pain, nervousness, and expense. They do come and go for me though so maybe yours will get smaller and disappear. Basic

One way to manage them without surgery is to apply a heating pad to them daily for like a week - maybe twice a day for 15 minutes or so. Whatever is in your ear will probably become softer and will hurt less and be less of an annoyance.

Whatever you do don't try to pop it - it will get infected and come back larger and more painful!

If you want to get your ears pierced I'd talk to a doctor maybe first. I can't see why you would not be able to go ahead and get them pierced if you can manage to get them less swollen (perhaps by the heating pad method described above).

Bottom line: don't worry. If you don't mess around with it, it should manage itself without any harmful effects. If you're desperate to just be done with it you can try surgery - it might not come back for you like it did for me though I can say I'd bet it would.

Basically just learn to live with it and realize it happens to a lot of people.

Cheers.

What causes pain under my right ear at the jawline?

If its not obvious from palpating the area then I’ll go with referred pain from inside the throat or back of the mouth.

What causes a hard movable lump under the skin of your jaw?

A hard moveable lump under the skin of the jaw, could be in the submandibular salivary gland, there are two of these glands one on each side of the lower jaw, there are also two more near the upper jaw, in front of the ears, these are called the parotid salivary glands, any unusual lumps, in these areas need to be checked out by a good ear nose and throat specialist, this is very important, to get a proper and thorough examination ,do not neglect this, and do not assume it is a lymph gland, a swollen lymph gland also needs to be checked out , get this done as soon as possible.

Lump on right side of my neck....?

Dont get too scared :-) I know its hard. Cancer is the worst scenerio out of many possibilities (noncancerous tumors, cysts, infections. . .). Even in the case of cancer, treatments have really improved so try not to worry before you know what you are facing. Go to the doctor to rule out anything serious. Some people have lumps for years, dont check them out and they mysteriously go away. Nevertheless, its important you get checked out to be safe. From personal experience, here is what will prob happen.

The doctor will feel your lump and ask you questions then give you anibiotics to see if the lump goes away. If it does not, they will likely order a ct scan to see if thats the only lump and xray to get a better look. If the doctors feel it could be a tumor after the scans, they will do a biopsy. This happens over a period of a few weeks.

In most cases, the lump is nothing serious. However, I found a lump a couple years ago near my neck that did end up being lymph node cancer, hodgkins disease, but i am healthy and in remission now. It definately can be beat :-)

I wish the best for you. You can email me with any questions. I would love an update too to see how things are going.
