Things I Need For New 8 Week Old Kitten

Why is my female 8-week-old kitten peeing on my bed?

You’ve only had the kitten for a week. It’s hard to say what her litter box consisted of, or who trained her to use it, etc. AN EIGHT WEEK OLD KITTEN IS STILL VERY YOUNG— TEN WEEKS IS THE AGE AT WHICH MANY SHELTERS CONSIDER READY TO ADOPT.Ideally, the mother cat licks the kitten’s lower abdominal after feeding to stimulate urination and bowel movements while the kitten is in or near the litter area. When you come home from work, after you feed and water her, take a moist cloth and rub her abdomen gently while she’s sitting on the litter box.Other factors mentioned (infection, etc.) may be at work. However, the kitten is just weaned, and her habits are not fully developed. She has just begun to use the litter box.Don’t allow her out of the washroom until she’s done her business.Usually, even feral cats take to litter box training quickly.Give her a little time, and read up on what to expect from kittens. If you establish her good habits now, you’ll have many years of love from her.Check out more information on this site, Alley Cat Allies.Hope this helps.

How much should I feed my 8 weeks old kittens and how often should they eat?

You already have 3 good answers, by Anna Jacobs, Chelle Gordon, and James Rackliffe. And no doubt, more to come. Here is my contribution -Kittens should receive as much as they want of fresh, healthy food whenever they want it. This ensures they don’t develop nutritional deficiencies. When we have kittens here, they are still with their mothers, so they also do some nursing. We feed them and their moms 4 times a day, until the babies are around 8 weeks old. Then we feed them 2–3 times a day. But if the food loses freshness, or gets spilled or dirty (kittens can be messy) we change it.We start with small amounts - for an 8 week old kitten, maybe a 1/2 of a 5.5 oz. can (put the other 1/2 in a nonmetal, covered container in the fridge), or the equivalent in raw or cooked food. Then observe how much they are eating, and increase it as needed. Kittens grow very fast, so their appetites increase correspondingly. On average, our adult cats eat the equivalent of two 5.5 oz. cans a day (more or less depending on size and metabolism), and maybe a little dry food. Our kittens at 8 weeks (still nursing a little, but mostly for comfort) will eat about half that, and their appetites increase daily until they reach a similar plateau. This doesn’t mean your kittens will eat the same amounts as ours. Watch them and adjust as needed. And observe their growth and health, too.Their appetites will gradually even out as they reach full maturity. But they usually still should have as much as they want (of healthy, high quality foods), unless they are becoming obese.Note: I recommend providing mostly wet food, because it is better for their kidneys and urinary tract. But I think it is wise to have them learn how to eat dry food as well, for adaptability. Cats can get set in their ways if they don’t have much variety while they are babies. For more on feeding kittens and cats, you can read my answers at https://www.quora.com/profile/Sa... and https://www.quora.com/profile/Sa... .Enjoy your kittens!I answered - “How much should I feed my 8 weeks old kittens and how often should they eat?”

Why is my 8 week old kitten sneezing?

I have an 8 week old kitten and she has been sneezing since i got her on friday. Her appetite is still very good and she is very active and friendly. I took her to the vet on monday and he said she had an eye infection so gave my eye drops. He doesnt think she has cat flu as she has a healthy mouth, coat etc and is active. Its now wednesday and she is still sneezing although her eyes look alot better. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be?

Thanks for any help!!

What do 8 week old kittens eat?

Kitten food, preferably high-quality wet kitten food.8-week-old kittens need at least four meals a day. They simply cannot process all the food they need otherwise. If you are feeding 100% wet food, divide it into four equal feedings. Feed them at the same times every day. Kittens are very delicate, so it’s especially important to use a clean bowl every time. Pet dishes are not very expensive; just buy four and you can wash them all at once.If you are feeding dry food, you can leave it down all the time until your kitten is 6 months old. If you also have adult cats, there is a way to keep them out of kitten food.Take a medium or large cardboard box. The bottom should be taped shut and the top flaps should not. Cut a hole in the side that your kitten can squeeze through but your adult cats can’t. Place your dry kitten food in the box far away from the hole. Place something heavy (like a large rock) inside the box so that the cats can’t tip it. Close the top flaps and keep them closed with a binder clip, chip clip, or something similar. That’s so you can open the box, but your cats can’t. Your adult cats will try to reach the kitten food, but if your box is large enough, then their paws won’t be able to stretch from the hole to the food.Another option is to combine wet and dry food. That allows you to feed wet food less than four times a day. Wet food still needs a clean dish every time, and you still need to be predictable. At 6 months, you can (and probably should) go to two feedings a day. They say that 6-month kittens still need kitten food, but in my experience it makes them gain the wrong kind of weight. I ended up mixing kitten and adult cat food for mine. That seemed to keep them healthy and growing.

8 week old kitten not going to bathroom?

i just got an 8 week old kitten yesterday. she was the runt of the litter. she's been acting fairly healthy. she's playful (perhaps not as frisky as her brothers and sisters....but still very playful) and she purrs and is super loveable. she's also eating a mix of dry and canned food.

the only thing is, i can't get her to go to the bathroom at all. she was supposedly litter box trained when i got her (but with six other kittens, it might have been hard for the owners to tell if she was using the bathroom properly or not). she hasn't used the bathroom in my apartment or in her box. she did throw up once.

i can probably make her a vet appointment early next week after labor day. however, should this be something i should worry about? i've only had her a day, so could she still be adjusting to her surroundings? or is there something i could do to help the situation?

thanks!!!

My New 8 week old kitten Is sneezing like crazy! He sneezes every couple minutes in little spurts.?

What do you all you all think? I don't know whats going on with my kitten. He is fine other than that. His brother (7weeks too) doesn't seem to be doing it. They are both very active and play for at least 7 hours a day. I have 2 dogs too, a Cockerspaniel and a Husky. My only thoughts are that its the Dogs hair, or the cat litter "dust". Please vet students, or knowlageable pet owners respond.

My 8 week old Kitten keeps sneezing. Is it serious?

please don't wait. its very common for kittens to have upper respiratory issues, but its very important to get them medicine for it right away. My kitten was so sick when we got her, and she almost lost one of her eyes because the infection spread very fast. She was acting normal, eating and playing like a goofball, just sneezing a lot. Took her to the vet and several courses of antibiotics later, she was as good as new!
