Think My Guinea Pig Is Going Crazy

Guinea Pig Going crazy?

I have two pigs, both male, one is 1.5 years old and the other is 4 or 5 months. They get along fine, but for some reason when i take my bigger, older pig out of the cage for some alone time and leave the smaller one in he goes crazy. Not so much popcorning, but running like CRAZY fast in circles all through his cage. Some jumping and kicking of his bedding but mostly he just runs all over the place.
Is this normal? Is it that he misses his buddy or is he glad to be alone in the cage? or something else all together?
Thanks

Is my guinea pig going crazy? HELP!?

Please take the poor thing to an exotic vet asap, he is miserable. It is not expensive to treat for mites, just the cost of the office visit which will be around $35.00 and the cost of the meds which will be around $20.00. He will need 3 treatments about 10 days apart, and you will need to totally clean the cage and every thing in it each time to keep form re infestation. Your vet will measure out the meds for you and send them home with you so you do not need to return each time, it must be given to the exact weight of the guinea pig this is why the vet get it ready for you and you simply apply it to the nap of the neck.Guinea pigs respond to the treatment quickly, with in a week it will be acting normal again.

My guinea pig is going crazay.?

i have some suggestions, even though i have never even SEEN a real guinea pig in my life! i dont know anything about them, but i will suggest things the best i can:

* turn on peaceful or calming music, and leave the room. turn off the lights too.

* play with him, give him a bunch of stuff to play with, or just some how tire him out, then give him a good rest.

* put on crazy music and copy him in front of him. if he notices, he might think 'what the heck are you doing crazy lady! wait.. are you COPYING me?! i cant be THAT crazy...' i mean, im no expert, but that MIGHT help.. :)

good luck! :D

My guinea pig is driving me nuts?

She's chewing the cage bars because she's bored. You'll either need to play with her a lot more or better yet, adopt her a same sex friend. I have a lot of pigs and I haven't seen one yet that wants to chew on those wood blocks or chew treats. They're a waste of money in my opinion. Chewing the bars on the cage is not good for her teeth and can actually cause them to come out. I would discourage this if at all possible.

Guinea pigs just poop and pee constantly. That is they way their bodies are designed. They must have a constant flow of food through the gut to keep it in optimum working order. They eat constantly and poop constantly. Having said that, yes, diet has a lot to do with the poop condition. If you feed too much hay, the poop will be very light tan in colour. If you feed too many veggies, the poop will be mushy. If your piggie has watery poop, she may be ill.

I've never heard of "gourmet" piggie food, but I never visit pet stores, so no telling what the pet food manufacturers have come out with now. LOL. The best pellets you can feed your piggie are from http://www.oxbowhay.com/index.sp or http://www.kmshayloft.com/

All piggies like to tear up paper. Thats normal & there's not a whole lot you can do to stop it. :( Secondly, paper can only absorb so much and then it gets nasty, very quickly. Try using another kind of bedding that would be better for moisture and odor control. Aspen shavings are a good choice.

Best of luck to you!

How long can guinea pigs go without food?

A guinea pig would go into irreversible liver failure if without food for 16 hours. They need to keep the gut working by continual eating or they risk gastrointestinal stasis, which can kill. It is important that guinea pigs have access to hay, fresh water and fresh food containing vitamin C at all times. If a guinea pig is not eating, it is important to consult a veterinary surgeon. Dental malocclusion is a common reason for inappetance in guinea pigs; burring any overgrown teeth or dental spikes/spurs might be required.

What makes guinea pigs cry?

Guinea pigs have a number of different behaviors and vocalizations, so I’m going to try to guess what you mean by “crying.”If you mean “shedding tears,” there are many reasons for a guinea pig having a “weepy” eye, including allergies and infections. They can have allergies just like humans, dogs, and other animals, including symptoms like itchy eyes, a runny nose, and sneezing. They might be sensitive to something in their environment like bedding or hay. If the allergic reaction is fairly mild, you can try removing a potential allergen from their cage for a few days to see if their symptoms clear up. You will also want to keep a close eye to make sure the symptoms don’t get worse. If your guinea pig has sticky, crusted material around its eyes, you should take it to your exotics vet immediately. This is the sign of an infection that must be treated quickly. If left untreated for too long, it can result in permanent damage to the eye and vision loss. While they do sometimes clear up on their own, never underestimate the training or intuition of your exotics vet. They may suspect underlying or related issues that could have caused the infection to take hold in the first place.Sometimes, just like we do, they get a little bit of something in their eye and the eye produces tears to flush the irritant out. These tears stop when the foreign object is washed away.If you mean “crying out,” guinea pigs make some incredible noises, and they have a different song for every occasion! These are just some of the most common sounds that might be interpreted as “crying”:The loud “WHEEK WHEEK WHEEK” you hear at veggie time or when you talk to your guinea pig is sheer excitement. It’s often accompanied by frenzied laps around the cage and stretching waaay up to try to be first in line for whatever is happening, no matter what it is.There is a strained, wavering “squeak” that means the guinea pig is in pain. My oldest Isis would make this sound in her litter box when relieving herself. She had chronic digestive issues (including bloat). If your guinea pig is crying when they urinate or defecate, take them to your exotics vet immediately. When guinea pigs aren’t comfortable with a situation they can make a series of rapid higher-pitched whines. They can be quite loud if the situation escalates. One of my favorite YouTube channels is Little Adventures, and they have a video about various guinea pig sounds:
