To Sell Anything You Need To Know What Makes You

Can you sell something that people don’t need?

You would assume that is the role of advertisement. However, many of those people who work close to the business would immediately disagree. Which sells more? A product nobody needs or one that everyone assumes they need? Need is king. From this, you might assume that the role of advertisement is really to create needs. Wrong again. Acccording to those experts, those needs can't be created. You would argue that this is nonsense. Nobody needed televisions or mobile phones back in 1811; we don't really need them now. They can be nuisances and we might even live better lives without them. Advertisement is to blame. There is certainly something more at work here, something which twists our desires and blows them out of proportions. Why else would ugly people buy clothes that look good only on the good looking? Why else would they expose themselves to biased information or go along being tracked wherever they go?A common way to sell people something they don't need is to hitchhike an existing need. For instance: the desire to be desired, the ability to reach out to friends and family whenever they wish, the possibility to engage with other people of similar convictions and share this mindset, and so on. You don't need this cool jacket, but you can feel like a star when wearing it. Your understanding of international politics is shady at best, but the daily news report make you pass as someone who's got an idea of what's going on overseas. In an ideal world, you would advocate for a right to your privacy, but your handy GPS and detailed personal profile have saved you from other daily troubles; as far as you know, you are happy with your compromises. Just build an adaptor between different needs that may even contradict each other. This way, you'll manage not only to sell things that people don't need. You'll sell them things they don't want, but can manage to live with.

If you want to start a business selling things, how do you get the products to sell?

My wife and I started a business (on the side) and we sold our first product 3 years ago. Last month we sold about $65,000. Here's what we did:We set up a free account with ecwid.comUploaded the products photos, descriptions and prices of the products we wanted to sellSet up a business Facebook pageRan Facebook ads to our target audienceSet up a wordpress websiteRan Google Ads for people searching for our productsPut together a free online training course on how to use our products  It's not as easy as it sounds. For the first two years we lost money because we invested heavily in ads. But our sales were growing steadily. About a year ago the manufacturer called us and asked if we would become a distributor for our territory. That's really when sales took off, and it made everything worth it. However, you have to start by selling the first product, stick with it and stay consistent, and you never know what doors will open up for you. Good luck!

What's the "trick" to selling a snowball to an Eskimo? What makes a good pitch? A good salesperson?

For some reason I have got in the habit of checking out the questionnaire before answering a question to see what kind of person I am dealing with, and must admit you sure come up with some good questions for all categories.

Now for this question, its a simple answer, sell yourself before anything and the buyer will follow your footsteps.

As for the Eskimo, add a little syrup and you got the north pole franchise

What thing should I SELL TO MY CLASSMATES AT SCHOOL!!?

Candy-grams sell well. You buy some netting and ribbon, and get some bags of candy at Sam's Club. Cut the netting into 6" squares. Then wrap it around a few pieces of candy and tie it with a ribbon. Sell them for $1 each. (They only hold about 4 pieces of candy - you can make them bigger, so they hold abou 8 pieces and still profit at $1 each.) Just make sure you buy decent candy. For $20, you can make $50 if you do it right.

Are you selling your soul to the devil when someone makes you a tarot reading?

Source of the Devil! OMG!
This is the very reason I don't read for many people anymore!
I really hope you were charged for the reading!

Can you sell anything with an extremely good marketing campaign?

A good, creative and innovative marketing campaign, is definitely the factor affecting sales. Let us understand it with simple example:  Step 1: You Need Something and in the meantime company finds something that you “might” like.Step 2: You look around to find what you need and discover something new that is being offered.Step 3: Curiosity: Human Being driving force - it plays a major role in selling through advertisement. Once you find something which is different than any usual, or is over popular for the time being, you cannot resist but to try: what it all the hype about.Result: The campaign is successful,  but in the long run the quality and approval of the customer decides the fate of the product or service. What is the one thing that you cannot pass up at a bake sale?? Tips for a bake sale??

Cupcakes are great and so are home made cookies. I love lemon bars, and they are so hard to find, that every time I see a bake sale I look for them.
The chocolate fountain wouldn't be my taste, as the cost of good chocolate to make a fountain is quite high (I've had low grade chocolate fountains and they are horrid!) and you can't always make sure that people don't double dip...yuck!
My tip is to wrap a plate of cookies with nice see through wrap and a bow or ribbon, or go to the 99 cent store and purchase some great seasonal plastic plates and make a cookie assortment, wrap and sell for $10. (I would pay $10 for that easily, especially if it was for a good cause)
Another suggestion is to make Rice Krispy Treats and wrap inidividually and sell for 75 cents or a $1 each.
Also try brownies. Just make sure that anything you bake with nuts in it is plainly marked for people with allergies.
Good luck to you. I always love a good bake sale.
