Can fever blisters be triggered by kissing someone with shingles?

I have had a few fever blisters before, but have had two over the past month - which is unheard of for me. A friend has visited twice during this month and he has never had blisters in his life, but does have shingles. I'm wondering if his dormant shingles could be triggering an outbreak, or is it just lip irritation from his stubble? Really need to figure this out, otherwise the relationship is gonna end before it begins! I can't afford to have a fever blister after every time we make out! :(

Do shingles always cause blisters?

Shingles is not always accompanied by blisters. Shingles are not spread by scratching the blisters and releasing the fluid inside. Shingles 101:

1. After you have the chickenpox (varicella) virus, the virus travels to your lower spinal area, where it becomes dormant.
2. Later in life (no one is sure why) the virus reactivates and travels along the nerve paths along your trunk and sides; this usually occurs on only one side.
3. Pain occurs along these nerve paths. Sometimes several days after the pain begins, a red rash will occur.
4. Headache, itching, fever, chills, and upset stomach can occur.
5. The rash turns into blisters, which crust over, depending on the severity of the attack, in 1-14 days.
6. Pain may continue even after the blisters have healed and disappeared.
7. There is no cure for shingles. A vaccine is available, but it is recommended only for people over 60.
8. If you have shingles, you cannot give shingles to another person. However, if that person has not had chickenpox, you can give chickenpox to him/her.

Your symptoms are typical of shingles.

How long does it take for shingles to heal?

Herpes zoster or shingles is a viral infection. The spread of the disease stops within 48 hours if start with the antiviral medicine. Without any medicine it would take 10 to 15 days to start healing. But sometimes there might be pain without skin lesions (post herpetic neuralgia) even after the lesions have healed... this can last for 3 to 6 months.. Post herpetic neuralgia is seen untreated cases, elderply patients, patients who might have a major systemic illness. If the antivirals are not started there are chances of secondary bacterial infection which would takes many days to heal with out medicines.
So with medicines within 7 days you would be alright... but woud take many weeks if you dont take the medicines
