Trouble Connecting To The Internet With New Modem.

Problems connecting router and cable modem?

OK , I have a linksys wirelessG 2.4 GHz router and a Motorola Surfboard cable modem from Comcast. I put in the cd to install the router and followed all the steps. However when i plugged everything in, the routers "internet" light is not lit, and also the "pc/activity" light on my modem is not lit.
I dont know what the problem is. I tried unplugging power from the router and modem and turning it back on but that didnt help either. Is there something else I am supposed to do? Perhaps my modem is no good because I did get it free from Comcast? Something else maybe?
Please my friends..any help would be appreciated.

My Arris Modem won't connect to the internet....?

I'm on Comcast.

My Arris model is TM602G/CT

The power light is on.
The DS light is flashing.
No other lights are on.

The Modem is connected to my Linksys E4200.
It's not the router that's having issues, it's the Arris Modem.

I've repeatedly restarted, reset the modem and unplugged all cables to try and fix the problem, but had no luck.

Any help?

Trouble with ethernet connection on dsl modem..?

Called Verizon they told me hey can send someone over to fix it but it'll cost money. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself instead I'd someone comin here? The dude said my computer can't see the modem or can't recognize it... If that helps. Thank you for any info yu can spare!

I am having trouble with my computer not connecting to the internet.  ISP provider said it could be my new wireless router generating IP address that the modem or site cannot detect.  My question is.  Can I reinstall my switch-modem then to Wireless?

Most consumer routers are set to receive the WAN (Internet facing) port IP address from the ISP modem via DHCP. From there, your router will use NAT’ing (Network address translation) to share the IP address. This process insulates your internal network from your ISP’s network, eliminating these types of issues. If I was in your position, I would update my router to see if it resolves the issue. I would then verify all my connections to insure all of the ethernet connections are in the right port. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, try changing your internal network IP address range; though I don’t feel it would help. If all else fails, replace the ISP’s modem (free). If that still doesn’t resolve the issue, replace your router. The last thing to do is to call an outside professional to configure/troubleshoot your network.Good luck.

How can you troubleshoot a NETGEAR router that won't connect to the internet?

Isolate and troubleshoot. It will either work or will be marked as dead.Try these steps, if internet is working on wired PC and not on wireless devices,Reboot the router > Check the wireless connectionIf not working, Login to the router > Go to wireless settings > Change the SSID(Wireless name) to something NEW. Now go to wireless security settings and change the security key (Wi-Fi password)as well. Save the settings and try connecting to the new wireless network. This should get you connected to the internet wirelessly. If internet is not working at all.Turn off the Modem and the Router then turn them ON in the same order with a brief delay of 15–20 seconds. Once they are fully ON check the internet. If not working, bypass the router and connect the PC directly to modem(To verify if the internet is working from the ISP). If still not internet contact the ISP.If direct internet is working then reset and reconfigure the router.Upgrade the firmware on the router, if the issue persists.

Why is my Belkin router not connecting to the internet? How can I fix it?

Need to know more about the connection medium but I'll go out on a limb. While I was a tier ll tech support specialist for a telco that supplied adsl, belkin routers always seemed to be a recurring problem. Almost all of the time it was due to the router address and the modem address being exactly the same. The way most modems come now, they actually have the ability to support multiple devices simultaneously, just add a switch. This is because they are set up to NAT, or create a separate Vlan’s to devices connected to the RJ45 port. This is how you may see your public or WAN address being different from the actual ip your pc has been assigned. Ex. WAN 184.174.178.33 vs running ipconfig /all from a command line showing 192.168.0.14 at your local machine. Routers do this as a primary function.Even tho the modem is creating a separate network, when you connect your router to the modem and the modem assigns a 192.168.0.x address to the WAN port of the router, well here now you have 2 authoritative devices on separate vlans with the same subnet and mask = 192.168.0.1/24. To make matters worse, keying in 192.168.0.1 into a browser will bring up either the modem config page or the routers. That is not good because if we don't know which device may show up on that screen, best believe the modem and router are warring hard core trying to determine who walks softly, and who carries the big stick. And they won't stop until all memory and cpu cycles are exhausted and both don't do shit except be a paperweight with blinky lights.Solution - Take the router out of the picture for a moment, connect directly to pc. Access settings, bridge the modem, reboot the modem. It will now pass the WAN address thru to the router when you hook it back in eliminating the “war”. All will function as designed. This is also a fix for those of you with hosting issues on Xbox live or the PSN. NOTE A hard reset of the modem will turn bridging off and you will need to do the above steps again to avoid another war.

A friend of mine had an illegal cable Internet connection set up about a year ago. She now wants to get legitimate service. How should she proceed? Will she risk criminal charges if she comes clean with the cable company?

In a word, no.Do you know why the cable company actually sends someone around to your house to troubleshoot and replace your cable box, basically ever? It’s not because the technical details of plugging in the box are remotely difficult. They aren’t. Literally anybody can plug the round cable into the round plug and the square cable in the square plug. There’s a really good reason we design things like that - so that even the most technical person can’t screw it up by accident, which has literally happened hundreds of millions of times before that design change was made. We’re all human. That person gets sent to your house because they need to make sure you’re not stealing cable. One such technician was sent to my house a few months ago, and they were absolutely certain that we were. So they disconnected the connection that we were not apparently paying for. They also replaced our old splitter with a new one that only plugged into the three connections we were paying for.And that’s it. No further action on their part was made. No criminal charges laid. No retaliation from the cable company. Not even a phone call to chastise us. The guy just disconnected the Evil Thing and went back to his truck without a word to us.I mean, that might have had something to do with the fact that a day later I complained that my wife’s office internet had stopped working. We weren’t paying for it though - the company she worked for was.But the fact that they literally said nothing about it speaks volumes. Also, I’m willing to bet that when they show up to “install” the new connection, the technician will notice that the work has already been done (he’d install a bigger splitter), he might even say “hey, thanks for doing the job for me”, and go on his merry way.

Im having trouble connecting my wireless router to my Comcast modem?

My router is a linksys Befsr41 (i also have a wrtg5, that is also having the same problem). My modem that comcast gave me is model number SBV5220 cable modem. What I am doing is taking an ethernet cable and connecting it from the back of the computer to the port labeled internet on the wireless router. Then connecting another one from the 1st port on the back of the router to the modem. No internet connection. The only way i get internet connection is when i connect the ethernet cable directly from the modem to the back of the computer. Any suggestions?

Can an internet modem go bad?

I'm wondering this because lately, I have been having some serious problems with my internet. I've been telling my family that it is a modem issue, but I would like to be absolutely sure first.

Here's the problem. So I live in a family with a lot of different devices trying to access the internet, there is two computers that is plugged in at all times, two laptops that use wireless, three iPod touches, and a brand new Galaxy Tab. The two computers work perfectly fine all the time, but only one of the items that uses Wifi works all the time. It is one of the laptops, all the settings are the same on all the devices. Same wireless password everything, Shared, WEP all right. I've restarted the devices multiple times each. I can get connected to the wireless router, but there is no internet access. Which is the same for all my devices except for obviously the wired computers and the one laptop that works. Also, I tried to do a wired connection to the laptop that doesn't work and it didn't fix the problem and still wouldn't connect to the internet.

Both laptops are the same model purchased within the same day, both iPod touch 2nd generations have trouble and the iPod touch 4G has trouble too. Same with the galaxy tab. I'm almost positive that it isn't the router because I've used two different routers, one D-Link, one a Linksys DD-WRT Tmobile hotspot router. Both do the exact same thing. We have two different modems. Both the same model and both 5+ years old. I had just switched back to the other one that I wasn't using up until the last couple days because I had the same problem with wifi, and the internet would disconnect for a few minutes every ten minutes or so. The new one disconnect more frequently but reconnects faster and has the same problem with wifi. I included both of those for the most accurate answer possible.

Any advice would be great, best answer will go to the one that tells me if modems can go bad and if it sounds like that's what happened to my system. Sources would be great too.
