Understanding Graphic Cards

Understanding graphics cards?

System requirement lab is a joke. Don't use it. Anyways integrated graphics something that makes you see all the colors and detail and moving pixels on your monitor. To determine what games you can play is complicated. Due to the HUGE variation of integrated graphics, it is difficult to find others who can tell you if that game runs smoothly or won't run at all. Most of the time, integrated graphics won't run a lot of modern games as they are weak. In short, it's really a gamble to see if it works or not. You can't really change integrated graphics because it is built into your computer ( there is no way to remove it or upgrade it or anything like that ). The only option is to buy a graphics card and stick it in. Something old like the 8800 GTX can run most games up to 2009 at max or close to max but it is getting phases out. New graphics cards such as the 5870 from ATI can run any game at max for the most part. If this is still complicated, just message me and I'll give you a super easy lesson about this.

The pci express x16 is the slot where you will fit your new graphics card. most modern computers will have a pci express slot but you need to check your computer manual or your motherboard manual to check. Or you could simply google your exact computer make and check that way. Failing that. Unscrew the side of your pc and compare your motherboard with a google images picture of a pci express x16 slot ( should be a long slot with 2 holes and a sticking out clip thing). Note: your graphics card may already be in the slot so check where your screen plugs in.

Understanding PC graphic cards?

In a PC, one the most important part is the graphic card, so when buying a GPU to build your own pc or a custom built, how do you understand and able to judge the Gpu? since there is so many; from Radeon HD to GeForce GTS then the GTX, FX series....what does all of this mean???

does it mean, the lastest graphic card is the best? on a CPU we understand that a QUAD is better than DUO and base on the GHz too, by giving us the description of what it have to offer, we understand what we are buying...

so. what are the ways to tell if the GPU is good or useless

Understanding graphics cards?

Hey!

I wouldnt consider myself a total baddie when it comes to computer specs. I am planning on buying a new desktop or laptop for high end performance, but I cant decide on a graphics card. I dont really know how to defrientiate between graphics card specs.. for example
GeForce GTX 580
GeForce GTX 570
Radeon HD 6950
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
ect.
I dont understand the specs that are added to these video cards. I always thought a 1g video card was amazing and a 2g will **** your computer into a new performance capability.

If there is a site you can direct me to to teach me how to learn the specs of video cards let me know!

I don't understand Graphics Cards?

I'm a bit clueless for graphics cards & PC gaming in general. I have 2 games I want to play: CS:S & TF2. I run CS:S like a champ, but TF2 is a bit iffy. I went to a "Can you run it" site, and this is what I got. I passed everything on minimum, but advanced I failed 2 things. Can recommend a cheap one that would still run at preferred speed? Radeon is what a few people said, but not very descriptive. TigerDirect or Bestbuy's websites please, it'd make life a little easier for me.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ5300Y desktop, and it still has all original parts, here's the specs:

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=12
0&prodSeriesId=4079828&prodTypeId=1245...

And if you want to see the Can you run it test I took, here is what it is: http://i51.tinypic.com/2ypi00p.png

And I also have a GeForce 8500GT DDR2 512MB PCIe, but i don't know if that'll make it run good, and I took it out of an old broken computer, and when i disassembled, it wasent an ESD proof enviroment, so I'm not sure. Someone told me I had an open PCIe slot so I could put it on along with my other, but would that work like RAM & combine it's preformance? And I also know the whole power supply needs enough watts output or something, so i dont wanna overload it.

How to understand graphics cards?

I'm not an idiot when it comes to computer hardware but neither am I and expert in it.
Specifically, I want to try and figure out how to determine the effective 'strength' of a graphics card.
When I buy new cards, all I really look for are the amounts of RAM on the card (greater than 1gb) and check that it fits PCI-Ex slots.

But I can't rely on that any more. Does anyone have a useful guide or set of pointers that could help me determine the best quality for the best price whilst explaining the technologies (CUDA, SLI etc) and their benefits?

Thanks in advance.

I understand your frustration - Been there and have come out!Tom's Hardware as mentioned by Cliff Gilley is a good place to start. There are also websites dedicated to categorizing GPU's based on their performance. The problem? A lower end can still be tricked out with a better memory and overclocking by the 3rd party manufacturer to out-perform it's successor. So, instead of looking at each and every card, it's better to split them based on their reference design and budget level. That way, you will have a decent idea of where a particular chip stands with reference to its peers. Google your card and you'll have a ton of material regarding its review and performance - use that as a base and start building your knowledge base!

I know 3 simple ways to check whether you have a graphics card and which one it is :1. On your laptop there must be a sticker Indicating which graphic is in the laptop.2. If on windows 10 or 8/8.1, go to start and just type "Run" and a dialog box will appear. In that type "dxdiag", a diagnostics window will open, in that go to the display tab. Here you will find everything about the graphics card which is installed in the system.3. Download a software called " GPU-z" from internet. Now after the download, just simple open the software and you will have a very detailed info about the graphic card which is installed in the system. These are the ways u can know about whether there is a GC in your system and if there, than which one.Hope this helped you :)

Help me understand graphics card please !?

Yes more than no. of gb's 1st thing that matter is which graphic card you are gonna get with your laptop (whats the use of spending money on 2gb weak GPU which not gonna utilize more than 500-600mb)

For you listed games , currently in india , the best mid-budget GPU you can buy is nvidia 755m/750m (or nvidia 650m/645m/745m which gonna cost you lesser than 750m/755m)
It should be good enough for the games you mentioned on 1920x1080 resolution on medium-high settings (fifa , gta 4 should run fine on ultra) , on 1366x768 resolution it will certainly run all available games till date in high-ultra settings.

If you absolutly want to max out current games on 1080p you would require graphic cards like nvidia 675m/770m onwards (which gonna cost you a lot)

Check out this website : http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Ga...

It have a good list of all laptop graphic cards available along with their performance in various games

How can I understand graphics cards? (Better, or worst)?

First off DO NOT listen to what that guy said about Nvidia card being used mostly with Intel and ATI with AMD. That is the biggest load of hogwash i have ever heard. Now, that guy who linked the desription of what a video card actually is, thats a step in the right direction. However, if you are simply looking at how to compare video cards, I would recommend learning more about computers in general. They are not as complicated as you think. I started learning when I was 12. I am 31 now and have been building my own pcs for years.

However, if you simply want a good way to compare video cards, without learning about how they actually work, there is a good website for that.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

That is a list of every video card released since like ever.
