Which is the oldest Indian Language : Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada or Bangali?

Sanskrit is supposed to be the oldest Indian language, because all other Indian languages are born out of this. Every Indian language has at least 70% of Sanskrit in it. Take any language. The God names, the mantras, vedas, puranas, shastras, daily chants everything is Sanskrit. Every Hindu male and female names has Sanskrit origin. No one can deny that Sanskrit is the oldest language. Lots of medical terms contain Sanskrit and not Kannada, Telugu, Malyalam or Tamil. Eg word DIAGNOSIS--it s made of three words, DIA, GNO and OSIS. DIA and OSIS are Greek words, GNO is short form of GNAANA (sanskrit) Gnaan, Gyan means Knowledge. Diagnosis means OSIS means condition or disease in greek, having knowledge or getting knowledge about the condition is DIAGNOSIS, similarly there are lots of medical terms which has sanskrit mixed in it. Tamilians deny that tamil has no sanskrit word in their language, it s purely tamil, there is lot of sanskrit mixed in it. Telugu has extensively used Sanskrit words, eg: Bhojanam, sneham, premam, everything is sanskrit. Kannada also has mixture of sanskrit words. same with malyalam. sanskrit is God s own language, then obviously its from time immemorial, since birth of this earth, other languages came after that. Kannada is called mother of telugu, but telugu people wont accept this. Tamil has its own history. karnatakas borders were till ahmednagar in maharashtra, maratha warriors waged wars and killed people and drove away people and expanded their territory. But kannada inscriptions can still be found there. tirupati temple has tamil inscriptions on its walls. totally india is a hotchpotch of everything. there was hatred then, there is hatred now, and it will go on forever. no one is Indian, we are just what we are. everyone likes his own mothertongue. Thank you.

Are Tamil and Hindu/Urdu two completely different languages, Are there any similarities in speech or writing?

Yes Tamil & Urdu are complete different languages.
Neither the script nor the language is same.
Hindi & Indian Urdu are some what familiar, but the script is entirely different.
Hindi is of Devanagari script & Urdu is of Arabic script.
Tamil is an Dravidan Language. The other Dravidan languages are Telugu, Kannada & Malayalam.
All the four Dravidan languages have different script.
The scripts of Tamil & Malayalam look similar, while the scripts of telugu & Kannada look silimar.

Obviously Tamil and malayam are sister language in literature and most of the tamil words are similar to malayalam. So one who knows tamil well then its not a big deal to learn malayalam.I am a telugu speaking person i learner tamil during my graduation in tamilnadu. I can able to understand Malayalam some of the words are similar to Tamil ,Telugu and some are unique. South Indian languages can be easily learned than Hindi if you know one among the four south languages well.

Which South Indian language shall I learn: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada?

If you like to learn a south indian language for reasons like interest in literature, i would suggest you learning tamil for its the most ancient language of india even before the arrival of sanskrit. And tamil is the only south indian language which can function very well without any sanskrit dependancy. And it has huge sources of literature which is entirely unique. If you want to learn a language for visiting south india, it depends where you like to go. The scripts of these languages are all different. Malayalam and tamil are similar languages. Telugu and kannada are similar languages. Most malayalam speakers can understand tamil. But most tamil speakers have difficulties in understanding malayalam. As far as the script is concerned, telugu and kannada scripts are very similar with few significant differences. But malayalam and tamil scripts are largely different even though there are some significant differences. Tamil script is different from other scripts that it has only few alphabets - eg. Tamil has 12 vowels and only 18 consonants. Malayalam script has alphabets that can express the sounds present both in sanskrit and tamil. So malayalam has more number of alphabets. If u are entirely learning for the reason to visit places, its enough if u learn basic phrases in these languages. Remember that, In south india, (next to native languages), english is more understood than hindi. So english can help you if u find it too hard to learn the languages.

Whether Yahoo chat can be in the Indian Regional languages, particularly in Tamil?

it fairly is a valid element and to be unanimously popular with out communicate or dissension. a controversy will continuously loom over any valuable and sensible undertaking .it fairly is a healthy sign for the your long awaited thought to materialize and take off. I total heartedly 2nd your suggestion. A Tamil suitable question in English would not have that efficacy that Tamil might have generated and pitiably it would not attraction to different members who don't be conscious of Tamil. there could be another sensible subject like moderators can demonstrate screen purely in some chosen languages. if so they might desire to contain our Indian languages which will sign up extra Indian members, hundreds of thousands of them,in Yahoo. Will YAHOO solutions INDIA grow to be INDIANS' YAHOO solutions?

How many type of people are there in India (tamil,hindi,malayalam..)?

India does not recognize racial division. India is like Europe. The states in India were divided on the basis of language or dialect spoken.
There are over 20 major languages ranging from 3 million each to 600 million.
Hindi is the largest spoken at 45% and is native to about 9 states. The other 19 states each speak different language like Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi etc.

Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada are Dravidian languages which is very different from the North Indian languages like Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati which are Indo-Aryan languages.
Hindi people are not exclusively Hindus or vice-versa...People speaking diff. languages can be of any religion.
Hindi and Punjabi have a lot of similar words since they both come from Sanskrit. A lot of actors and directors in Bollywood are Punjabis so it tends to have their culture in the movies.
Punjabis can be Sikhs and Hindus. But Sikhs are almost all Punjabis.

I need a free online translation of english text to oter indian languages like tamil, kannada, telugu,?

Hindi evolved from Sanskrit, by way of the Middle Indo-Aryan Prakrit languages and Apabhramsha of the Middle Ages. There is no consensus for a specific time where the modern north Indian languages such as Hindi emerged, but c. 1000 AD is commonly accepted.[9] In the span of nearly a thousand years of Muslim influence, such as when Muslim rulers controlled much of northern India during the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughal Empire, many Persian and Arabic words were borrowed into Hindi. All Arabic words were loaned into Hindi via Persian, and hence do not preserve the original phonology of Arabic (Tiwari [1955] 2004). Hindi is often contrasted with Urdu, another standardised form of Hindustani that is the official language of Pakistan and also an official language in some parts of India. The primary differences between the two are that Standard Hindi is written in Devanagari and draws its vocabulary with words from Sanskrit, while Urdu is written in Nastaliq script, a variant of the Perso-Arabic script, and draws heavily on Persian and Arabic vocabulary. The term "Urdu" also includes dialects of Hindustani other than the standardized languages. Other than these, linguists consider Hindi and Urdu to be the same language.
