Very Weird Teacher Who Gives Us Hard Work

Why do my teachers look at me like I am weird?

I don't stand out, I am just the quiet girl in the back. But my English teacher glances at me every time I look at her when she is speaking. Everyone else is looking at her too but she seems to always look at me, she has this concerned look on her face and she will ask me how I'm doing when she walks by. It is sort of the same with my social teacher. He looks at me like I'm funny looking or strange in some way. Just a few days ago we were doing attendance and the question was, what is your biggest pet peeve. He commented on everyone's but when I said mine he just said ok in a weird way gave me a look and moved on. I don't understand why they look at me this way. I do not try to stand out and I am not loud. Teachers have always done this to me. People will say I am imagining it but I know I am not. Why do they look at me and treat me like this?

Problem with teacher who gives too much work?

You need solidarity - get others in the class to back you up - if enough of you feel the same way, approach her as a group in the parking lot after dark.... no wait, better not go that far at the outset; approach her in class and give her a letter signed by all the students who are affected.

If that doesn't get the desired effect, go on strike from her class - don't go outside the school, just go to the office and ask to speak to the principal. If he/she backs up the teacher, there's not much you can do except to try to get your parents involved (show that you are not able to adequately prepare for your other classes due to so much homework), or just try to slog through. Beyond that, you could just complain over and over again, maybe the broken record technique would work on her.

The bottom line is, you have more power than you think you have, and way more power than the teachers or the school want you to know you have, but you must be judicious in your use of it. Good luck!

Do you think my teachers give too much homework?

I'm not an indolent student so please don't complain and say that I'm just a huge complainer because I'm not! So this is my homework (daily):
art - nothing (obviously)
bio - three text book worksheets (which should be considered six because she does the printer setting so two worksheets fit on one page)
hist - take notes on a fifteen page section in your book and prepare for a quiz the next day
eng- read about 60 pages in your book, answer about 50 questions (which she marks off for the most inane reasons)
math- answer about 40 questions in your text book (these take forever, not because they're difficult but because she adds all these extra directions like GRAPH each equation on graph paper and EXPLAIN IN WORDS how you got your answer)
gym - gym essays and tests every week (weird, right?)
span - make flashcards (40) of new vocab words and prepare for a quiz tomorrow

And then over the weekend, the homework doubles (sometimes triples)!

I also have tests in every class at least once every two weeks. Gosh I'm only in ninth grade and even though I'm in all accelerated classes I feel like it's too much. I'm not saying that I definitely have the MOST homework out of every ninth grader in the United States but I feel like I get too much. I barely see my friends during the weekends now but I don't want to drop down because school is very important to me. I feel like a hermit :( Does anybody else get this much homework? I think teachers are giving too much homework now adays. My ten-year-old cousin stays up until ten P.M. every night trying to do her homework and even has finals! It's ridiculous, we need some fun in our lives!

My Algebra 1 teacher gives us homework everyday, while she gives the Pre-Algebra kids none, what should I do?

The more advanced class should get more homework. It is not about fairness. You have more material to cover and the same amount of class time to learn it. The teacher doesn’t have the time to review the last week’s material again. If studends do their homework assignments, there should be less need for review. Now, I was bad about doing my homework regularly as a jr. high / high school student. If the problems are repetitive, why do I need to keep doing the same problem over and over. I think fewer but more challenging is a better use of time. But, that is quite a different complaint. And, I am not sure all of your classmates would agree that less but harder is better than easy and boring.

How do you work hard?

I was a horrible high school student. I really never went to class, I didn't study hard, I didn't get extra help until twelfth grade (so I could graduate), and I couldn't pay attention. It turns out that I do have learning disabilities, and I'm not saying that was all of it. I was very depressed, and I found it hard to give a crap about anything. All my friends and classmates (very small school) went to college and I didn't.

I do have a point.... when I was twenty-four, I enrolled at a community college. I didn't have to have good grades to get in, just a high school diploma or GED. I did so well, I won several music grants, a Cal Grant (very hard to get), I made the Dean's List, and I was accepted as a transfer student to UC Berkeley and UCLA. I went on to get my BA from UCLA.

I found college much more interesting than high school. I went to a really good high school, so I can't imagine what I would think of schools today. I was a substitute teacher for awhile, and the curriculum is terrible.

So, try not to be too hard on yourself, especially if you feel like you really are trying. It's not easy being a teenager, and a high school student (although we all have to do it). Adults sometimes forget how bad difficult it was. Just get out of there, and go to a community college. It's a great way to learn the things that are really important, and a cheap way to get through all of college. And it's never too late to go to school.

Should I send my homework to other students? Our maths teacher is very strict and homework is important. I often send my friends my hw, when it’s too hard. I created a group chat on fb, now everyone is in it and they don’t even thank me.

I believe the school homework is not that difficult or like writing original stuff, right?Your teacher is very strict about homework cause more you practice maths, more you learn. She wants to know how many students can solve these maths problems and who needs attention. You are smart, probably you do not need teacher’s help! But you are hurting your friends and other classmates cause teacher feels that most of his/her students understand maths and so, are able to solve the problems…But that’s not the fact. You are hurting them. Stop doing it!

Is it normal to sometimes HATE being a teacher and dread going to class?

I am a first year second grade teacher. As a career changer, I have little experience with kids. For the most part, I love my students. Educating them is fun, they're sweet, friendly and it's a heck of a lot more interesting than my old job (and pays double). Plus I'm actually making a difference.

But some nights (like yesterday) I laid in bed and I just hated being a teacher. I didn't even want to go to work. I considered calling out.

Sometimes I think I get stressed out, not from the kids, but from all the other random stuff I have to worry about (PTA meetings, taking reading classes, parents, preparing for the science fair, being observed, etc).

How do I persuade my students to work hard?

First of all Good to see someone caring about their students. We need more people like u.Change is the only thing that is constant. From my school days to college days , i have seen a large contrast in the teachers around me. School teachers treated us as their own children , college profs dont give a shit about what we do!Obviously we loose intrest in things then. The teacher , the guider plays a very improtant role in the output of a student. Being a student myself , here are a few things i’ll suggest which made me do my best during my school days.1. Make things intresting to learn.Intrest is a big factor that affects the performance. Make your students build intrest in their subjects.2. Tell them intresting tricks.Nobody likes it simple. Tell some easy and intresting tricks , like most of the teachers tell their students a weird funny one liner through which it is possible to recall periodic table elements.3. Show them practical applications. It enables them to know things deeply. When we see things that we learn , getting applied , we tend to understand deeper.4. Keep reminding them about their goals. All hardwork is to achieve a goal. Keep telling them about it so they have a constant motivation.5. Keep them motivated.A good quote , or a poster of something you adore can help you forget other things that are hindering you. I used to keep my parent’s photo frame beside my table. That kept me motivated.6. If they have any problem approach them personally.Personal care magnifies the output.7. Get a bit involved in their personal life.Listening to their personal problems , and a touch of love helps building a trust.8. Try building self confidence in them. This is very important.9. Be approachable to them.10. Rewarding the deserved , serves as a great motivation to work hard.Rewards act as mini nitros to your performance.Hope it helps :)
