How can I prevent motion sickness?

I have a terrible problem with motion sickness. I only need to get into the back seat of a car and I'm already in cold sweats and dizzy and nauseous. The car doesn't even have to be moving. It doesn't even have to be working! So, you can imagine the issue I have when I travel (by car) from New Jersey to Florida with a 40 lbs dog, my mother, and myself in an Impala. It gets very crowded and very warm and it's a long and bumpy ride. How can I prevent myself from getting nauseous?

Motion sickness, commonly experienced while traveling in cars is easily remedied by:driving with a window downhaving the person prone to sickness become the designated driverExperience tends to reduce proneness.

How do I prevent airsickness?

Do you know what makes you airsick? If it's good ol' motion sickness, a medicine like Dramamine, eating a light meal well before the flight (it's not good to be full or hungry), bringing dry crackers on with me to snack on (their snacks are usually not "light" in nature), etc, have helped me. And if anxiety is part of the problem, take an anti-anxiety medication or remind yourself that flight is safer than driving!  For me, I do fine unless the flight is turbulent. To try to minimize the risks of that, I never fly in the afternoon/dusk in warm climes. Hope some of that helps you!

How do I prevent Motion Sickness on an airplane?

The ancient Geeks named it. The word "nausea" is the Greek word for "sea." But motion sickness also occurs in cars, airplanes, amusement park rides - and when riding camels and elephants. These animals sway from side to side as they walk. Motion sickness is a major headache in space travel. Even though astronauts are carefully screened, more than half experience it.

On airplanes, look out the window, recline your seat, and direct the air vent on yourself. Avoid sights and odors of food.

Serve small, light snacks before and during the trip. Offer frequent small drinks of cold water, juice or soda.

Other remedies include:
Ginger may reduce vomiting. A diet high in carbohydrate allegedly helps. Acupuncture and acupressure applied just above the wrist is sometimes recommended. "Roast beef and cabbage stays down while the daintiest dishes the pantry prepares are promptly rejected," says an old British medical text.

Medications.

Antihistamines - especially dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) and diphenhydramine (Benadryl), for example - help reduce the incidence and severity of symptoms. Medication takes about 30 minutes to take effect. Check with your health care provider regarding age limits, dosage, frequency of administration, and side effects. Transderm Scop, the most frequently used medication for adults, is not approved for children because of possible side effects.

I sometimes get motion sickness on a plane and this puts me off flying. Like during the take-off I get dizzy or when the plane is going down I feel like I'm going to throw-up or something. Or one time when I was on a five-hour flight I felt both dizzy and sick. How do you prevent this from happening. Also, can you prevent motion sickness without medication?

Motion sickness - Ginger based product or travel calm tablets, some people do well with a band around their wrist with an accupressure nubbin. Face forward and look to the horizon, don’t read.Anywhere else - wash your hands well & frequently, don’t touch your face/mucuous membranes/mouth after touching public surfaces, money. Carry small alcohol to cleanse hands. Watch where you put your handbag/luggageWe always spray rooms with Glen 20 and give a coating over pillows & bedding - have done so for years after bringing home a particularly nasty virus one year. What is the best way to prevent or alleviate sea sickness?

I ended up doing quite a bit of research on this topic for work a few years ago.  In general, once a person becomes nauseated, it's much harder to shift them away from being ill, so the emphasis is on prevention.Manual/electro stimulation of acupuncture points. There is a surprising amount of experiential data showing that these work, but very little to prove why. The general understanding is that it is placebo effect. I use Sea-Bands myself and find them to be remarkably effective. When I don't wear them I get sick instantly if I try to read on a plane. When I wear them, I can read for hours with no illness.Ginger has been shown to be effective against nausea. Clinical studies have been done with ginger and chemo-induced nausea.OTC drugs like bonine are effective, but they do make one sleepy.  And, like all these "solutions" this one works great for some people and not at all for others.Scopolamine patches, like bonine, are effective for some, not for others, but generally are considered to be clinically proven to be safe and effective. There is no 100% effective method. For myself, I find Earplanes to keep the pressure in my ears steady and an acupressure band around my wrist to be amazingly effective. I know folks who have tried the patches and found it to work and others who said they might as well have not bothered.Of course watching what you eat will help too - avoid dairy, acidic foods, alcohol and anything else that typically upsets your stomach. Any medications you take will also affect your equilibrium. All I can say is, best of luck and bon voyage!

How do you prevent motion sickness when going to a amusement park?

In a few weeks I am going to an amusement park that I have never been to, and in my state it is supposed to be one of the best amusement parks. Anyway, ever since I was a little girl I have had motion sickness. I tried riding upside down roller coasters twice and each time I got extremely sick, to the point where I had to sit down for a hour. I also get motion sickness in cars. I have tried many things, including not eating three hours before I road a ride, and nothing has worked this far. How do you prevent motion sickness when going to an amusement park? Any tips or advice? Is there any medicine I can get at the doctors to help this? I just really want to have a lot if fun. Thanks
