In the Hindu epic of Mahabharat, King Bharat’s empire included the modern day of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tibet, Nepal and a major part of South east Asia. And this conquered territory was later named after King Bharat.6. Hindustan : Since ancient times Arabs and Persians were having business relations with India. Soon India was invaded by Arabs. These invaders had to cross the Sindhu river in order to enter this country. But due to linguistic barriers Arabs could not pronounce Sindhu, hence they termed the people living around and beyond Sindhu as Hindus. And after they settled in this country this land was gradually given the name “Hindustan”.7. India : The modern name of this country is a mixed gift from Greeks, Latins, Romans an Britishers as well. Ancient Greeks had the habit of mispronouncing the Sindhu as INDOS/.Even Alexander and his historians have referred Bharatvarsha as INDOS. In Latin, Sindhu was known as Indus and later in Roman it became India. This name was used by Britishers as well.
