How's working life in TCS?

It has been 19 months till date working with TCS. Straight from a college graduate to TCS was a challenging one for me as I was never accustomed to the corporate lifestyle. Took my time to adjust the whole situation.I did my ILP (Initial Learning Programme) at TCS Garima Park. Believe me its a boon in disguise to all freshers. You get to know about various cultures, good food which you never had, friends for life and last but not the least a taste of being a part of TATA Group.Coming back to my base branch here, I experienced bench life for less than a month. Though that period is a bit frustrating as you have no work other than reporting to RMGs. Well, for me I spent that time in IRC or at the basket ball court. It has been a year I am allocated to a project and I enjoy every moment being a part of the project. Sometimes the Project Manager scolds a bit, but thats because I am responsible for the faults. Overall, we are here like a family. No idea about other project as the atmosphere varies.I have no idea about others. Each one has their own view. Someone might be frustrated, others may cling because they have no options left, but I say, LOVE your JOB and not the COMPANY. I enjoy my job here.

What difficulties are faced by Indian students in Canada?

When you move to a new country, it will never be a hand in a glove situation. There is a certain learning curve that is bound to be encountered by everyone. My greatest tip from my personal experience is to have positive people around you at all times. It is easy to fall back into the same old patterns just because it is familiar but you have to force yourself to come out of your comfort zone. This is context related, I swear. After living outside of India for 2 years(1 in Canada and 1 in Germany), one thing I have noticed with most Indians is that we are afraid of trying new things.Since your question is Canada related, I can tell you that Canadians are the nicest people. They will welcome you into their country with open arms but you have to go that extra mile too. Interact outside your little group. It is difficult at first but it is so worth the effort. We came to Canada to experience the international culture and to do that, we have to step out of our circle and get to know other cultures and people of other nationalities. The accent debacle - Many a times, we think that our accent sounds funny when we speak English. This makes us self-conscious because of which we sometimes come across as shy people. I am guilty of this accent debacle and I have found that this only holds me back.Almost all of the Indians will agree with me on this. We grow up in strict households where we have to come back home on time, get good grades, listen to our parents and be good at everything in general. And, now you are in Canada. All by yourself. Not answerable to anyone. Allowed to do whatever you want. This is very normal for someone who grew up in Canada but this can be too much freedom for a 20-something Indian kid who has no life experience and has never been on his own. With all this freedom in your hand, it can be difficult to keep the focus on your dreams and aspirations and everything you came all the way to Canada for leaving your friends and family behind. It is not easy, it is not all shiny instagram pictures either. But it’s worth it if you keep your head down and work as hard as is possible.
