What Are 3 Things The United Nations Participated In

How many countries are not part of the United Nations?

This is a great topic for fights to break out.Currently there is only ONE undisputed ‘nation’ that is not a member of the United NATIONS: ‘Holy See’, also referred to as the Vatican City, but actually the two are different things. Hole See is the recognized international sovereign body and has Observer Status with the UN, but is not a formal member. The Vatican City has a declared ecclesiastical monarchy and as such can have no status with the UN and is also why it has no status with most other international governing bodies.Taiwan’s status is really quite simple. The problem with Taiwan’s status is two-fold: The succession of states theory, which is commonly employed in international relations, grants Taiwan to China, as Taiwan was occupied under hostile force by Japan having prior been Qing territory, even if it was dissenting at the time of occupation. That last point is the second part of the problem. Basically Taiwan and mainland China were part of the Qing dynasty. Taiwan went into rebellion. the Japanese took advantage and invaded Taiwan. 70 years passed. Taiwan was liberated in 1945. The Civil War was over, because the Japanese had occupied it for so long and really a lot had happened. Also no one who started the rebellion was alive any more anyway. Then Taiwan was ‘ceeded’ to China, based on its history, but no one was really willing to start a war right after WWII, but also Taiwan didn’t want to be PRC (which is what the ROC becamse in 1949). The world really didn’t care much about this problem in 1949. Or in the following years. Now this doesn’t mean Taiwan couldn’t be a country if it wanted to. Or that it shouldn’t. But international recognition will be legally next to impossible until this is resolved. As such: definitely not a sovereign nation or a country. Its a officially province of China that went rogue. (personally I think Taiwan is awesome and I hope they get what they want and a way is found soon).

What are the reasons the United Nations were formed?

United Nations organisation is a worldwide organisation in which the problems of member nations are solved in a peaceful manner. It was founded in 1945.Reasons for formation of UNO;To stop dispute between nations in a peaceful manner. Dispute on any issue.i.e. land dispute, trade dispute, etc. To stop any wars between member nations. These small war can convert into participation of powerful Nation which can cause a world war.To create welfare policy for nations to encourage pubic welfare throughout the world. It has provided some important guidelines to it's members on important matters.i.e. consumer protection, malnutrition problem in third world country, human life index, etc.United Nations was also formed to promote the globalisation. This globalisation will increase trade between countries and will definitely increase the standard of living in developing countries was the important objective. So United Nations Organisation helps in acting like a world wide governing body which has a limited control.Thank you

What are some interesting facts about the United Nations?

The Record for the longest ever speech in the United Nations Security Council is held by India's Krishna Menon. On 23rd January 1957 , he delivered an unparalleled eight-hour speech while defending India's stand on Kashmir. In total it lasted over 8 hours and it is reported that he actually collapsed from exhaustion partway through and had to be hospitalized. He returned later and continued for another hour while a doctor monitored his blood pressure. His speech is remarkable not just for setting a record but also for its effectiveness in demolishing the Pakistani argument. It is often lampooned as an Epic Filibuster as it gave the Indian forces precious hours to drive back the Pakistani forces from some crucial areas. Quoted from Wikipedia : "During the filibuster, Nehru moved swiftly and successfully to consolidate Indian power in Kashmir. "Image Courtesy - Wikipedia

What would happen if the United Nations didn't exist?

Without international coordination on lots of things, countries would be a lot more isolated in many ways, and probably more likely to "solve" problems in a belligerent manner instead of trying to cooperate globally on diplomacy, sanctions, etc.  Here are just a few of the things you might not expect about a UN-free world:Want to fly internationally?  Well, you'd better hope the countries you're flying between agree on navigation practices and allow each other's flights to cross their borders without being shot down, since the International Civil Aviation Organization is a UN body.Oh, but surely you can just take a boat instead, right?  Sure, if you don't mind taking chances, since the International Maritime Organization, which standarizes maritime safety and related things, is a UN body. You could just stay home and videochat with people other places over the internet... except that standards for international phone calls, radio spectrum allocations and networking are handled by the International Telecommunications Union in Geneva, which is... you guessed it.Failing everything else, there's always writing letters, except that postal policies between countries are coordinated through the Universal Postal Union. Whoops. Then there are little things like the World Health Organization for combating pandemics, the World Intellectual Property Organization for keeping other countries from ripping off your inventions, the World Meteorological Organization for studying weather and stuff like that beyond national boundaries, and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs to keep track of where satellites are so they don't smack into each other.Autonomous agencies also cooperate with the UN in their jobs of making it less impossible to get those foreign goods you like (World Trade Organization) and discouraging the country next to yours from randomly killing you over some perceived affront (International Atomic Energy Agency, Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, and Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons). To put it in simple terms, there are things on which global or regional coordination really is necessary, and if our existing means of globally or regionally coordinating on those things ceased to exist, we would end up re-creating them with different names.

Fiji- Ok so im in Model United Nations and i need help figuring out how they deal with certain things.?

High school Model UN can be tough for the first year. I have been to the GSU conference while I was in high school in GA and its a lot of fun, so is the UGA conference. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Find out what your countries position is on these things. You said Fiji? Well, they have had quite the number of military coups and takeovers within the last two years. If there were any riots or anything during these coups, see if your government used non-lethal weapons. That would give you a clue to your position. For small arms trafficking, you probably want to strengthen already existing models for stopping these trades, at least the illegal ones. For international response mechanisms for chemical and biological weapons, you could try something interesting. Since you have neither type of weapon, you would probably want the strictist mechanism you could find, so try something like expanding the UN to include similar branches related to chemical and biological weapons as that of the IAEA (nuclear).

2. You are going to have to do some research. Fortunately, the internet is a wonderful tool to help. You can find legitimate documents to support your position as well as facts and figures quickly. Try some of the websites listed below.

3. Get one of your classmates or a teacher to check over your working paper. This paper is basically your position on certain things and how you feel the UN should deal with them. So you need to say what the problem is, what your country (Fiji's) position is, and what you plan to do to make it better.

This is a lot of work, but its really fun. If you need more help, let me know.

How did the United Nations differ from the League of Nations?

The league of nations was a failed attempt at creating a world council similar to the UN at the end of WW1, and was proposed by the Americans. The reasons why it failed was that America never joined despite coming up with the idea and the League of Nations didn't have any real power e.g a military, The U.N differed as America did join it and it has an army, treaties and an ability to force countries to stop trading with certain countries to enforce its decision

What qualifies you to participate in Model UN (MUN)?

Thanks for the A2A.I have participated in a few MUNs and have hosted few more. In my experience, these are the three things that you must possess.—> Fearlessness to speak out ( you'll have questions to ask to others and others will have questions for you. Don't hesitate to ask and don't be afraid to reply )→ Research is must. There will be a lot of things that must know about the country you're representing. Its better to have a little bit of history about your rivals too.→ Format is essential. You need to know how to address properly, how to make requests to the Chair and lot of extra formalities ( you can't just go to the washroom. There's a proper format to request the Dias to let you go to the washroom )With these ree things, you have higher better chances.Hope it helps.CHEERS!

3. What two main roles has the United Nations played in world affairs?

They do many things. I think the two most important are the orderly negotiation of multiparty conventions and treaties and the negotiation and enforcement of peace agreements between belligerent states.

What is the difference between the United Nations and the League of Nations?

Thanks for the A2A Kritarth Jha!The answer to this question is really long. But I will try to incorporate the dissimilarities which you will most likely need to know.Creation:-First, the inception of the League of Nations after the end ofthe World War in 1918, was with the sole purpose of preventing a 2nd World War. Although it failed in its purpose, it did pave way for the creation of a much more multi purpose organisation known as the United Nations.Work:-The League did not have any other focus except for preventing war, which it failed miserably at. The United Nations on the other hand, involves many committes which look after a multitude of sectors. WHO for Health, ILO for labour welfare, UNESCO, UNICEF, to name a few.Voting:-In the League of Nations, all members had an absolute right to any issue, call it veto. A single no from any nation killed the whole resolution. This was not carried forward to the United Nations except for the Security Council, wherein only the 5 Permanent members can practice this power of veto, on only substantive matters (not on procedural). Every other committee has some sort of a majority rule.Membership:-The League never became the universal organization that had been envisaged. Moreover, it failed to secure or retain the membership of certain major powers whose participation and cooperation were essential to make it an effective instrument for preserving the peace. Despite President Wilson's advocacy, the United States did not join, and the USSR joined only in 1934, when the League had already shown itself unable to contain the aggressive policies of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The three aggressor states themselves withdrew their membership during the 1930s to pursue their expansionist aims. The UN, on the other hand, is approaching the goal of universality, with only a few smaller countries still unrepresented. As of May 2016, UN has a membership of 193.If you need to know something more about it, hit me up :)
