Chances of getting the NROTC Marine option scholarship?

So I m currently applying for the NROTC Marine option scholarship and I want to know how I stand against other applicants. As of right now I have a 3.45 gpa with an 1100 SAT score with a 540 math and and a 530 writing. I know awful first test. (I re-take the Sat in June and take the asvab and ACT soon as well). I'm currently enrolled in 1 AP class, due to shortage of possibilities. Current school doesn't have a class ranking system.

I've been a JROTC cadet for 3 years, a varsity captain for the swim team for 2 years, a lifeguard working 15 hours a week, a swim instructor for 2 years, feed the homeless once a week, and got the Swim team noticed by the high school (originally wasn t noticed by the school as a sport), along with 100+ community service hours. My pft is a 260 and I work out 6 times a week.

My reasons for wanting to become a Marine Corps Officer is I wish to lead and inspire my junior Marines, to partake in something greater than myself, to serve my country, and to become a better person with the help of the Marine Corps. I've also lived over seas for the past 2 1/2 years and have visited 6 different countries, really strengthening my personal diversity and my ability to emphasize and be more open-minded to the people around me.

The 5 schools I chose are the University of Tampa, University of Florida, University of Jacksonville, Tulane, and Old Dominion (I am a Florida State resident). Thanks for any feedback.

What Are My Chances of Receiving a 4 Year NROTC Marine Option Scholarship?

i applied for a 4 year NROTC scholarhsip marine option. and i was wondering if my stats make the cut. First off i live in northern california if that makes a difference. My GPA is a 3.92 weighted. My class rank is currently 32/196 I have taken 5 AP Classes (US History, Government, Economics, English 11, and English 12; i have also passed AP exams for the classes i have already completed) and have received B's in all of them except English 12 where i got an A. My SAT scores are 610 critical reading, 610 math, and 560 writing. I also took the ACT and got a 31 composite with a 25 in math and a 30 in english

Also, my PFT came out to about 254 (1st class) and i enrolled in the Delayed Entry Program just to give myself and extra edge. The officer told me my interview went well though i only did one. i have volunteered over 500 hours in the past 4 years and i am continuing to do so. Most of those hours were completed while i was a camp counselor at a week-long overnight summer camp with kids from ages 9-18

The schools i listed on my application are
1. UC Davis
2. San Diego State University
3. University of Utah
4. Oregon State University
5. Georgetown University

What are my chances at an NROTC ( Marine option) scholarship?

For the NROTC Scholarship, SAT/ACT scores are of more interest than grades. Almost no college or University uses Freshman year grades in the GPA calculated for admissions purposes. This is for Berkeley, UCLA and the rest of the UC's and is typical:

I wouldn't worry about grades in Freshman year affecting your chances for an NROTC Scholarship. I'm not exactly sure what an Acc. GPA of 3.2 is or how it could then be 3.8 unweighted. But, I hope you did not let your Freshman year grades keep you from applying to the Naval Academy. The Median GPA there is in the 3.6 range unweighted. If you had good SAT scores you would have been competitive. I think the PFT scores used for the scholarship need to be submitted by the deadline at the end of this month(January.) If it was not MO the intended major would also factor in. Track is a spring sport sport so, it would have been better to have lettered in a sport before applying for the scholarship, but you have many other activities. A good explanation of NROTC(MO) at the link.

I'd say you stand a great chance to receive the scholarship. You don't need to join the reserves in college. If you do outside of the context of NROTC, there is no guarantee you will not be deployed while in College. Just take the NROTC courses. There are also College Program scholarships, and these are largely at the discretion of the local detachment.
Good Luck!
re: additional details. The NROTC MO scholarship requires a 1000 minimum on the SAT Math and Reading Scores and it looks like you are at 1200.

[Middle 50% means 50% scored in that range. 25% scored below that range and 25% scored above that range.]

If that is your cumulative weighted and unweighted GPA for Sophomore and Junior years, I think you have a great chance. Good Luck!

Chance of NROTC Marine-Option scholarship?

I have a 3.85 GPA for my career, I'm in the top 20% of my class. I took the ACT Saturday and think I got a 26-29.

I was recently elected Secretary of my school's National Honor Society, I have lots of community service, and over 85 hours of internship at my local fire department. I also served as a church altar boy in middle school, and I'm a district placer in BPA (Business Professionals of America).

I have a Varsity letter for tennis, along with 2 years of football and 1 year of basketball. I'm a part of my school's Muay Thai club. I also work out regularly and run local trail runs. I also will be getting a part time job this summer.

What are my chances for an NROTC-MO scholarship to a mid level school?

If I want to join the Marines through NROTC, is there a chance that I could be turned down and stuck on a ship?

You apply specifically for a Marine Option NROTC Scholarship, so there’s no way if you’re turned down you’re going to end up in the Navy instead. That being said, even if you do earn your scholarship, Marines often work in MEUs (Marine Expeditionary Units) that are attached to ships a lot of the time. If you don’t want to be on a ship, just join the Army.

How hard is it to get a Marine Option NROTC scholarship in Comparison with the Army ROTC program?

I was just wondering how much harder it would be for me to get a marine option scholarship compared to an army rotc scholarship. I will be applying for a three year scholarship from each branch. Im in pretty good shape (15 pull ups, 85 sit ups in 2 minutes, and about a 21 minute 3 mile run) and my gpa is around a 3.2 (college). I am also an eagle scout and i have a fair amount of other stats that make me "well rounded". I was just wondering if there was anybody out there that could tell me if the odds would be in favor more so with the army then the marines. BTW im not only doing rotc for the money i have wanted to be an infantry officer my whole life especially for the marine corps. The reason i have to know is because i have to decide which rotc unit i want to enter into as a freshmen. Any help is appreciated.

Army ROTC or Navy ROTC - Marine Option?

If you strongly desire to be a Marine, I think you have your answer. Marines do train harder, (in my general experience) work harder, and as such they have a VERY rich military tradition.

Do note however that the Marine Option ROTC is by far the HARDEST Scholarship to attain. You need to be on the epitome of the spectrum. I personally know people who have been denied the Marine Option and have easily gotten the Army or Air Force Scholarship.

In order of difficulty to attain
Marine Option
Navy Option
Air Force Option
Army Option

As I am in the process of becoming a Marine Officer I will state that

You must be physically fit

- can not stress this enough-when I was applying for said scholarship the recruiter stated, "Marines pride themselves on being fit and testing harder than any other branch of the military. The mean (average) PFT Score for candidates is 245. Above that, your more competitive, if you cant even pass, I will tell you to get the hell out of my office and stop wasting my time."

I got a 265 on it, that last part was not addressed to me.

You need Leadership Experience-NROTC IS FANTASTIC FOR THIS
You need Community Service
You need a High GPA
You need an above average SAT Score-it states 1000 as a minimum for Marine Option on the NROTC main page. Do note, however, that many candidates are above this. For example, I got a 1420 Math Verbal, this helped a LOT.
You should have letters of reccomendation from figureheads, aka Senators, members of Congress, Reps.

Be persistent! Milk every opportunity that you can! I was offered the nomination for the Merchant Marine Accademy, I chose not to accept it BUT I did request a letter from the politician nominating me-VERY VERY VERY HELPFUL.

If you dont get the scholarship, try, try, and try again. I was prepared for failure in my quest. However I realised that I wanted to be a Marine and that being a Marine was what I had wanted since I was a 5 year old military dependent. Marines dont quit, even in the face of failure, if you dont get the scholarship you desire, man up, realise where you went wrong and correct said areas.

Best of Luck to ya'
