What Are Patient And Tolerant Men Like

Why do women have higher pain tolerance then men?

YES, I know it's a silly issue but I've read it several times tonight - that women have higher pain tolerance since women give birth and have periods. Seemed interesting to me but I had to check.

One simple search engine query(pain tolerance sex) resolved my dilemmas:

"The laboratory research seems to indicate that for many kinds -- but not all kinds -- of stimuli, women have a lower tolerance for pain," says Linda LeResche, ScD, a professor of oral medicine at the University of Washington, in Seattle.
Laboratory studies show a clear difference in pain tolerance levels between men and women. When healthy men and women are subjected to heat and other types of pain tests, women almost always report feeling discomfort first.
"The laboratory studies show rather convincingly that women have a lower pain threshold and pain tolerance than men. That has been fairly consistently shown in the experimental studies that have been done."

The results showed that, on the average, a) pain tolerance decreases with age; b) men tolerate more pain than women; and c) Whites tolerate more pain than Orientals, while Blacks occupy an intermediate position

Sex differences in pain perception have been noted in multiple studies, with women typically displaying lower pain tolerance than men, but it is unknown whether the mechanisms underlying these differences are hormonal, genetic or psychosocial in origin

So why is this myth prevalent as I've heard it several times in real life, especially from pregnant women? Why do women like to be seen as tougher then men?

Who are more tolerant, men or women?

In my experience, based upon group averages, women have been more tolerant of differences than men (in US, which is all I know about). Maybe the difference is related to the upbringing the boys have gotten versus the upbringing of girls. Boys are taught a lot about how people should behave and look and talk, etc. Girls are taught to be more nurturing and accepting of differences. And, there are exceptions to this, with some males very tolerant and accepting and some females less tolerant and accepting.

Should we be tolerant of intolerant people?

I've certainly heard this argument before, that "tolerant people are hypocrites if they don't tolerate the intolerant," ....but it's a load of crap. It's a mindfuch, for lack of an actual defense, by an intolerant person...

Being a "tolerant person" does not pigeon hole anyone into a course of action to be defined by *******, especially the intolerant ones who somehow think they are in the "right" by being wrong...

Being "tolerant" does not force one into a position of "Universal Tolerance" where EVERY OPINION must be tolerated, especially ones that are damaging or in favor of denying Rights. For example: I consider myself a very tolerant person, however, I see child abuse as wrong. Others can *disagree* if they want to, and their mind retains autonomy, but I'm not going to tolerate seeing a child being abused, and I'm not listening to someone tell me why it's a good thing. Some may be "of the opinion" that rape is acceptable, but I'm not tolerating a rapist.... Opinions inspire action. The Holocaust even, started with an opinion...

Everything does (and should) have it's limits...

The public is more tolerant than before, but aren’t there some things about some people’s past that should discourage running for president?

You reckon the public is more tolerant? People didn't used to talk about some things. In some ways, things like rape and pedophilia have become more intolerable, as the PC movement has progressed, whereas, they just didn't used to talk about it much in the past. Like women came forward with stories from thirty years ago, when they didn't even consider talking about it back then, because it was a different time, or something. I mean, Trump went to these parties of Epstein, he was a long time friend of him, and he got like a different underage girl every single day, the younger the better, and held parties for his rich friends with these girls. I mean, I'm not really somebody who thinks sex is all that bad, even for young girls, if it's not real nasty, but you know, it's not just that, and you know, that's not the only thing, it's like Trump isn't a family man, he's not a nice man, he's kind of like a sociopath, as far from this Christian ideal of the "moral" family man as you could get, without actually being a drug dealing pimp, which it is said, that other previous presidents actually were. So, I don't know, at least he hasn't cut a journalist into pieces, as far as we know, but he did support it.

Why do people become less tolerant with age?

I am 71 and find myself less tolerant of people. The reasons are many. Here are a few. They apply to the ignorant, the troll, the biased, the bigoted, the intolerant, the sexist and a host of other negative traits. The biggest reason is that I don’t care any longer. It doesn’t matter what people think of me. I have become a grumpy old man. This group of people deserves what I say. They are being uncivil in their provocation.Trolls should be ignored, but I can’t resist pointing out their stupid ignorant ways. I can’t help it, they make such good targets. As for the ignorant, I can’t stand people who are narrow minded and won’t learn anything new.Sexism knows no bounds. It is ingrained into the fabric of some people. They rub it in my face so I want to point it out.Recently I insulted someone on Facebook and someone pointed out that this is contrary to my belief in living by the “Golden Rule”. It made me sad. What have I become I thought? Maybe it is time for me to leave Facebook, so much crap is on there, but it enables me to stay in touch with friends that are near and far.How much should you tolerate? I don’t know, but for now I will avoid knee jerk reactions to trolls and various conservative points of view.I am still a grumpy old man and I want these people to know that you can’t slip that BS by me.

Which gender has a better pain tolerance in general, men or women?

Women have a higher pain tolerance than men… hello childbirth.. but also eyebrow and nose hair plucking, waxing etc.. any pain that can be conditioned slowly in small increments women own the market on, especially if its for beauty/looks maintenance.Men are stronger, tougher, and more capable of doing almost everything in daily life and tend to be less dramatic, making us more able to handle crisis situations and injuries effectively through experience (we injure ourselves more because we DO more and take more risks) and adrenaline/testosterone. Thats the physical. We as men are trained by other men to hide most minor pains, ignore them, man up, and handle it. It’s a virtue to have something that should be painful, not be obviously so.Twist your ankle hard? Don’t cry princess… That is social structure and its had a largely negative impact overall on us as males but still is relevant to the question. We work harder than women in fitness because we know in advance that we WANT that pain, we wear it like a medal with a smile not a whine and complaint. Women can do exactly the same thing, but they have to grow into that thinking, its new for them… for men it tends to be reinforced early on and more psychologically integrated. So, you might say that “technically” women have a higher threshold for pain… in extremes… due also in part to situations like saving their child etc.. where motherly stuff kicks in crazy style. But as far as the specifics of the question go “generally speaking” mean DO have a higher pain “tolerance” than women, in that we are generally able and willing to tolerate more daily, regular, needless pain (did we really have to carry all that in at once?) and work through injuries due to necessity or pride than women. This improves our usefulness. However, it might lead to another question more along the lines of “are women smarter than men, in general?” using this sort of pain example and the associated psychology and thinking as support for an argument for them having us licked in that area at least.

Why are Indian men so tolerant towards women being disrespected, and being treated unequally?

Thanks for A2A Vinav Keswani. Here is my opinion.Out of Fear, because India is a misogynist society. We are majorly patriarchal in nature and the role of women in our society has been limited to that of mothers and wives. The same has been glorified over and over through festivals and rituals. Not saying that this is wrong, a woman has to be a mother/wife as much a man has to be a father/husband. We're so used to women being in their traditional roles that we don't realise the discriminations around us even in this age and in todays generation. For example:1. Have you ever noticed a company named 'ABC & Daughters'?! It has always been considered a son's duty to take forward the business/legacy. Why so? Are women less capable? No. Its because in our cultures women is 'given away' with little liquidity to the new family after marriage. As much as it is, a large section of Indian society does not consider the right of women to inherit immovable property. 2. You see that a woman is judged by her appearance alone in most Indian families. This is very vivid in the weekly matrimonial columns. 3. A woman is considered a responsibility and pride of the family, but only in matters of 'carnal treasure'. This is extremely hypocritical given the way most women do not have a say in most family matters, especially financial. We're exposed to this reality daily but with little action to correct it. Our measures are only limited to voicing opinion and not concrete steps that will improve the status of women in the social clout. We are pseudo-feminists and we need to change it. But How?1. Pledge equal property/business inheritance to your daughters. 2. Women know home better than men, they know the home finances better than men. Push them for financial freedom if they are already not there. 3. Rise above the religious tenants that describe women inferior. Take stage and act. Most men of my generation feel the plight of women, but are often hesitant to take steps in fear of social boycott. Or being labelled a 'slave to wife'. It takes courage to stand up and ride against the tide and its us men, who will have to play an equal role in making India an egalitarian society.

Why aren't women generally as tolerant of hormonally-driven male behavior as they want males to be tolerant of

Graymalkin: "There you had credibility and authority - here you do NOT."

I've got news for you. You have no credibility here or anywhere else. Besides, I think it's clear at least to the intelligent readers of this forum that you and queenie and others find my questions daunting, and you try to cast a smoke screen over your inability to handle them by making ad hominem attacks on me. This isn't about me, it's about the question I asked, which has already been complimented and appreciated by several posters here.

Glad to be of help...
