What should I listen to if I want to get into reggae?

Listen to as many different reggae bands as you possibly can to get a good overall sense of what you like. If you're interested in history, I would also research the history of reggae and the precursors to reggae, first wave ska & rocksteady. The book "Bass Culture" by Lloyd Bradley is a pretty solid in depth look at the history of reggae if you'd like to get nerdy. I'm reading it right now and enjoying it.Here's a couple bands/artists I would recommend checking out, roughly divided by genre/subgenre..1st wave ska:The SkatalitesDandy LivingstonePrince BusterJustin Hinds and the DominoesToots and the MaytalsThe EthiopiansLord TanamoRocksteady:Alton EllisCornel(l) CampbellErrol DunkleyPhyllis DillonThe TechniquesThe TennorsThe GayladsSlim SmithKen ParkerThe EthiopiansRoots Reggae:Bob Marley and the WailersWailing SoulsThe GladiatorsBlack UhuruSteel PulseThe Twinkle BrothersGregory IsaacsDon CarlosCultureIsrael VibrationThe HeptonesPeter ToshDancehall & or Rub a Dub (early):Eek a MouseTenor SawYellowmanLone RangerJosey WalesJohn WayneSister Nancy"Modern" Reggae:Raging FyahThe ExpandersKatchafireKapu SystemStephen MarleyTribal SeedsMorgan HeritageFortunate YouthDubbest10ft Ganja PlantIya TerraIrie SoulsThe FrightnrsThe AggrolitesJr Thomas and the VolcanosJah RootsJosh HeinrichsNaptaliSounds of JahMike LoveJ boogThe GreenIya TerraRootz n CreationThis is a just a rough list from off the top of my head and it definitely reflects my personal preferences. I'm not an expert in dividing artists by style/genre, but I think this should be a good starting point. Hope this helps, happy listening!!

What are some good songs to listen to when you're bored?

I prefer songs that match my emotion. If im getting bored i would listen to these following:Lemon tree . Im turning my head up and down, im turning turning turning around and all that i can see is just a lemon treeBad day. Because you had a bad day you're taking one down , you sing a sad song and you're turning around Somewhere only we know. If you had a minute so why dont we go, somewhere only we know . Everytime listening to this i just wish that someone would take me with them to get out of boring situationNew soul . Im a new soul i come to this strange world i could learn a bit about how to give and take Picture to burn . And if you're missing me you'd better keep it to yourself, cause coming around here would be bad for your health. The music video that taylor swift was in is incredibly crazy

Who else besides the Turtles sing the song "Happy Together?"?

Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl you love, and hold her tight
So happy together

If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me, and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together

(Chorus)
I can't see me loving nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me
Baby the skies'll be blue
For all my life

Me and you, and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Chorus

Me and you, and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba-ba-ba ba ba ba... (as chorus)

Me and you, and you and me
No matter how they tossed the dice, it had to be
The only one for me is you, and you for me
So happy together

O-o-o-oh
So happy together
O-o-o-oh
How is the weather
Ba, ba ba ba ba
So happy together
Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba
We're happy together
Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba
So happy together
Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba

What is the difference between reggae and soca?

They’re pretty unrelated, although they’re music from the islands and from a similar era.Reggae music is a style that developed in Jamaica that has a distinctive beat (the One-drop) and often deals with spiritual, personal and human rights issues. So called ‘Lover’s rock’ came later and focused mainly on romance. Reggae was also intimately tied to the Rastafari movement, exploring themes of Black royalty, back-to-Africa, colonial oppression, ganja-burning, Black supremacy, and the hardships of Jamaican ghetto life (Trenchtown and such).Soca is an entirely different style, and the focus is partying and celebration. This is the music of Trinidad and is closely bound to the Carnival and Bacchanal scenes; parties and parades that turn into multi-day celebrations of Trini culture. It’s much more upbeat and celebratory than reggae and is light on message; basically just the sound to do plenty of dancing and ‘winding’ to. It originated as a mix of soul and calypso, and extracted the most festive aspects of those while leaving the message and activism largely out of it. Calypso is, while still usually quite cheerful, more likely to take on topics like politics and social issues. Soca is for partying.

What does Punk have to do with Reggae?

There's the music genre "Ska" which i'm not very familiar with. There's Ska Punk and Ska is a Jamaican music.
I heard skinheads listen to ska. Skinheads are - as i heard - aggressive and racist, while Rasta people in Jamaica are peaceful and kind.
Is it just me, or there's something strange about this?
Can someone give an explanation about this whole Reggae-Ska-Punk connection? Cause it looks kinda f'ed up to me.
