What Are Some Benefits Of Joining The Marines

What are the benefits of joining the Marines or the Army?

I'm a 19 year old college student and before I decided to attend college, I was really interested in joining the military. I made the decision to go to college and it hasn't really been what I expected so far. I love the social scene of college and everything that comes with it, but I just don't know if it is necessarily for me or not. I find it kind of boring a lot of the time.

So, with that being said, i'm sort of interested in joining either the Marines or the Army.
I really want to be a firefighter someday and I figure with being in the military, it would help my chances getting a job. And, of course, because I want to give back to my country.

This is where I stand on the two branches-
The Marines- I am leaning towards the Marines because of all of the tradition that comes with the Marines. And I love challenges and think earning the title "United States Marine" would be an honor.

Army- Have a lot of friends who joined the Army after high school and they don't really say too much about it. Some you can tell really like it and others are just like, whatever it's ok. If I joined the Army I would really want to go Airborne.

Aside from all of that, I don't really know what the benefits of each branch are.
What is the pay like?
What do you do in your free time? How much free time do you have?
(For those who are/were in one of the branches of the military) Did you enjoy it?
What is it like living on base?
What is the typical day like for an infantryman?
Do you ever get to go home to see your family?

I'm looking for answers that follow the ones above, or if you have anything else to add that would be great.

Oh, and I figure I should tell you a little about me personally to get an idea of what you guys think would be best for me. I am really athletic, love challenges, enjoy being part of a team.

Any help from you guys would be great. Thanks!

U.S. marine benefits?

I know the Army talks about all the benefits you can get for joining the army from advertisement, but I personally want to join the marines. Army pays for buncha stuff such as college and you get paid vacation. What do the marines get? I've already decided I want to join the marines regardless of answers.

Should I join the United States Marines? What are the benefits?

Okay… so I'm not gonna lie I may be a tad bit biased, I am in the Army and the majority of my family before me was in the Army. However, I know some simple facts to be true about the Marine Corps. First of all they are good at what they do and can be trusted in combat, I will always give them that. However I would not recommend joining the Marines. So here's why. First of all I know a few Marines who absolutely hate the Marine Corps, they will not reenlist when their contract is up. Of all the branches in the military the Marine Corps has the lowest retention rates of all other branches…I will let you interpret that how you will.Secondly the it can be very hard to make rank in the Marine Corps and it has nothing to do with whether you are a good Marine or not, it is just extremely competitive. This can be very frusterating. I am currently stationed with a former Marine who joined the Army for that very reason, making rank was difficult. The Marines living conditions are also notoriously the lowest of any of the branches. This includes barracks, food, amenities and anything else you can think of.If you are just interested in joining the military I highly recommend the Air Force if you are married or he Navy if you are single. The Air Force will take care of you and your family and you will enjoy it. The living conditions are great and the food is better. If you are single the Navy could be one hell of a time, you will go all over the world. If you are interested in a combat role then I highly suggest the Army. Try to get airborne if your contract and you could get assigned to some of best infantry on the planet. To me the Marines has always seemed a poor choice…but DAMN are those dress uniforms SEXY!!I hope this helps, any decision to join the Military is huge. No matter how much things suck sometimes it's never a decision that I regret and I wish you well.***I mean absolutely no disrespect to the Marine Corps. I only speak on the information that I have been told by current and former marines and my small amount of experience being around them***

What are the benefits of joining the Marines over every other branch of the United States military?

Esprit de corps is what makes or breaks a military unit, and the US Marines are up to their necks in it.First, there are a lot of great military units in this country. I’ve known folks in the airborne units, rangers, seals, and the “typical” job roles of the air force and Navy. All great folks, highly skilled at what they do, with a sense of pride in the history of their units. But, in total objectivity, there is no large fighting force on earth that rivals the Marines in culture, pride, and determination when it comes to kicking the shit out of the enemies of this country. None. When it comes to that raw, fighting from a muddy hole for months, kill you with a stick because the ammo ran out type of “fuck you” the Marines have no match. (If anyone is offended by how I’m writing this, there are plenty of questions about kittens and feel goods elsewhere). And, if you are looking at joining the Marines, that should matter. It matters for two reasons:You will work harder than you will in any other branch. Now I know a lot of people will say “what about special forces”. Well, look at the training involved with MARSOC. Job for job, the Marines are going to make you work harder than the rest. SO, you are either up for this or you aren’t; that is gut check #1. It really isn’t for everyone. The toughness, the stress, the training… it pays off. Because you have to realize this, above all else, before joining the US Marines: You will likely be put in harms way, where people will try to kill you. And, for the people trying to kill you, they will do so with all the intelligence and determination that you *think* you would muster to kill them. So, being with the toughest, most well trained force matters. Its the difference between giving ass kickings and getting ass kickings. And in this job, that is life and death.Fun fact: The US Marines have never lost a battle commanded by a Marine. So, if you want to serve your country in the military, and you are willing to go through hell to join… become a US Marine. Seriously, there is no force on earth quite like them. It is truly a brotherhood.

What are the benefits of joining the navy?

You'll be able to get everything that you want out of the Navy and more.

the Navy gives the same benefits as the other services (colleges, va loans, healthcare, etc), but the nice benefits are the travel as you mentioned, and the better care for sailors. Cooked meals, hot showers, Air Conditioned ships, and other goodies makes deployment at sea alot less taxing than a deployment in the desert.

Swimming is mandatory. at Recruit Training Command (boot camp) you are required to take a class 3 swim test, which is 50 meters, in any stroke of your choosing. You will also learn safety afloat techniques and how to properly jump into water from an elevated position. Rescue Divers, BUD's, and Seals have to take further Class 2 or Class 1 swim tests.

Marine Benefits- What can I get out of it?

Hey since the economy is in the downhole, my parents are probably going to let me join some service. Since they don't want me to go into combat, they are probably going to make me join the Coast Guard. I am not a big fan of riding on a boat all day busting drugs and blowing up icebergs, i'd rather serve somewhere where comradeship is appreciated and I can get more out of it, both physically, mentally, and financially- Like the Marines

Can someone who served explain please what are the benefits of enlisting in the marines for college and civilian life for a 4 year service?

Thanks
