What are some ideal volunteer opportunities for a kid (from a family with means) who's looking to take a gap year or two before attending college?

There are many, even I had volunteered and trust me it was the best decision. I volunteered with Volunteering SolutionsIt was an amazing experience. The volunteering is usually on the weekdays and on the weekends I got to explore Nepal.

What should I do during a gap year before law school?

Work and save up as much money as you can. Law school is expensive, the bar exam is expensive and if you can help it you won’t want to work while studying for the bar exam. Many bar prep programs are $2000+, add to that testing fees, travel expenses (plane ticket or gas money to the city where you will be testing), hotel room and food etc. and you are looking at several thousands of dollars- not to mention the lost income while not working plus the money you will need to support yourself while studying for the bar for 2 to 2 1/2 months. So, work. Work and save up as much as you can.

Super Boring Gap Year?

I took a gap year between High School and College. I'm bored out of mind. I work 6 days a week during the evenings and all my friends have school during the day. I wake up and do absolutely nothing until work and then come home and do nothing. This.boredom is killing me. What are some fun things to do alone during the day? Or where can i meet people my age (18-19) during the day?

Can i be a flight attendant during my gap year?

In theory, it's possible, but I don't think you'd get a job.

Being a F/A isn't a play-job or a even a job for people who want to travel. It's a customer service PR type job which you have to be fully committed to. Qantas is a proper and major airline, and I highly doubt that you'll get a job with them, because they will have to train you, after which you'll be put through a 6 month probation. All in all, this will take about 8 months, maybe more; and they won't hire you and spend their time if you're only planning to work 4-6 months.

Also, while you technically do meet the requirements for an international F/A, airlines generally do prefer people who are older than 18 (with chances greatly increased if over 21) and preferably with a BA at least. Education is becoming more valued in the industry.

I highly doubt you'll get a position, sorry. Maybe you could try before you go to grad school? That way you'll be older and have at least a BA, which will help your chances.

What should I do in my gap year before university?

I have just published a 'Gap Year Journal' for students taking a year out to travel the World. It is available for sale on Amazon in various countries. A gap year for many students is one helluva mind-blowing, exciting, never-want-to-end, adventure that truly deserves documenting in a journal such as this one. I have included small gridded World maps on every other page so that you can highlight the countries you have visited. A great keepsake to show your future children and grandchildren ...and maybe publish your journal for potential gap year students to follow your trail. I have included more than enough sections for you to write a short description of your daily adventures to cover a full year. Included on the first page there is an area to put all your personal details in case of an emergency. As an extra added bonus we have included a large gridded World map on the last page to plan your route. The cover has a rustic design with a matte finish and the 152 interior pages are printed on cream paper to follow the rustic theme. A must have for all students on their exciting World journey! If anyone is interested in buying this journal please ask me for the link to the Amazon product page ...or just search for "Gap Year Journal" on Amazon.

Should i take a gap year before going to college?

I was thinking of taking a gap year as well, but honestly, unless you REALLY think you are gonna go for sure after a year, I don't think it's too great of an idea. I mean I hear you on the "wanting to do things before college and rensponsibilities", cuz shoot I STILL want to do that lol. And alot of my friends are taking gap years as well. But are they for sure going to go when the next fall semester starts? Or are they gonna keep putting it off for the next year and the next? Just do what you feel you really will be able to stick with. Even though you're in college doesnt mean you wont get to travel. We get big breaks during college, and you can take a summer off and only go in the Fall and Spring! Plus, if you have a job and plan on traveling with that money, what money are you gonna use for college? Unless you are getting financial aid and stuff which is what I did, but just think realistically. Make sure you are prepared and are ready and dont set yourself up for failure.

I'm going to LA for 2 months during my gap year. What are some good opportunities to meet people and make friends?

LA is an amazing city full of interesting people. Given your age, I would spend time near a large college campus. Assuming you have an English accent, you will be viewed as someone interesting. Don’t ask me why, but American women tend to love English accents.Look for MeetUps in the area with fellow ex-pats or other students who may be studying abroad. To meet American’s watch some of the more popular TV shows so you can quickly find common ground in a conversation. Avoid politics, since that is a sensitive topic these days. Although, LA is likely to be more liberal so if that fits with your beliefs, that could be a great connector. Also, use apps like Bumble, SameGrain, MeetMe, YikYak, SnapChat, Instagram and others to perhaps locate people nearby that have common threads. Finally, people in LA like to workout. So find a gym, beach, park, etc. where you can meet new people. Just don’t come across as creepy. Act genuine about wanting to know what are the best things to do in LA. There are so many things to do in LA and people love to talk about their home town.

What are some good things to do in a Gap Year for a STEM Major?

There a couple of things you could try.Internships are always  a nice choice: they look nice on your CV, provide you with practical experience, and allow you to start building your network.Otherwise, you can always go for some projects at your current University. Are there any professors that would be willing to give you research? Any student societies that have to do with microbiology?Check out if your University offers some exchange programs. Maybe you could find something related to your major, and at the same go to a different Univeristy, potentially better than your current one.If I were you I would start by contacting professors or people that had similar experiences. Concerning the former, just ask them what you asked here: you want to take a gap year and want to do something related to your major. Just stress the fact that you intend to work hard.If you actually want to take a gap year to simply relax a bit more and study less, I would advise against that. While nothing is ever a 100% certain, I think that taking such (useless) breaks tends not to work out in STEM, and is generally frowned upon.

Is taking a gap year a good idea?

If it's what you want to do, go for it.
However, make sure you use this time to really explore different interests and actively do different things. Experiment with different experiences and activities that can translate into a career. Don't let yourself fall into the trap of using the year to "think" about what you might want, because thinking about major life decisions often gets people stuck.
I'd say do it, and explore the world, but while your exploring, give yourself 3 or 4 careers to explore throughout the year. Maybe you spend three months writing blog posts about travel. Spend another three months volunteering to help people. Spend another three months learning a new language, and another three learning to cook authentic European food. Those are just ideas. See the world, enjoy yourself. Make friends, meet new people, experience different things, and see new places. But also, keep yourself busy and productive and working towards something. A year seems like a long time, but it really isn't, especially when you start college. It goes by so quickly, and you have to make so many decisions.

Colleges will definitely accept you. Even if you take a year off, definitely look into colleges you want to apply to. It's always good to think ahead.

Also, if you decide to not take a year off, keep in mind that most schools offer study abroad opportunities, and you can always take a summer trip to go backpacking instead of a whole year. If you wanted to have the best of both worlds.

No matter what you do, everything will work out, and you will be fine. Backpacking across Europe would be a great experience:) Good luck, travel safely, and make the most of every opportunity. Remember to take care of yourself and keep your most valuable possessions safe.
