What Are Some Good Ideas For Homeschooling

Is homeschooling a good idea?

Your situation sounds very close to our own...

Our first year, we tracked very closely to the public school curriculum with the idea that maybe our son would return.

We "fell in love" with homeschooling and have never looked back. We now follow our own advanced course of studies and take full advantage of the many opportunities in our community.

My son has a goal of attending an Ivy League college and is on track to accomplishing that goal. I don't think he would be if in public school.

We have mixed reaction in our family... some are very supportive and some do not understand the concept.

Is homeschooling good for kids?

I want to home school my children, but all the home schooled kids I have ever met were either a) completely nerdy , b) out of touch with reality or c) nerdy when in home school then got out in the real world and became very rebellious (sex, drugs, etc)

I don't want that to happen with my kids, but I still hate the idea of the normal school system. Have I just had bad encounters with home schooled children, or is this the tendency of most?

Is online homeschooling a good idea?

So I'm wanted to be home schooled since the second grade when a boy in my class left school for it. I'm a ninth grader in high school and just started a new school. I can honestly say that I hate school. I know that my 'friends' there aren't my real friends and I see no reason for staying there. Both of my parents work, so there is no way for me to be home schooled regularly. My question is just whether it would be a good idea to do online homeschooling. I know that there are many different things to consider before making this choice, but what are your opinions on the subject?

Do you think homeschooling your kids is a good idea?

I think homeschooling is a great lifestyle and offers great opportunities for children to grow, learn and develop.

I agree, no one will nurture your kids the way you will. I have only the highest admiration of stay at home moms who choose to raise their own children. It's an incredible career to dedicate yourself fulltime to your children.

To put your kids in day care, because divorce is a possiblity is just sad. Marriage is a commitment, just like parenthood and neither should be taken lightly. If your marriage is so fragile, parenthood shouldn't be the next step.

Children do best when they have a loving environment in which they can thrive. If parents make their home warm and nurturing, there is no substitute. Having a primary care giver that is not the parent can lead to confusion for the child, causing future problems with intimate relationships. Kids need to know they can trust their parents, especially their mom. They need to feel assured that she is always there for them. Abandonment can cause serious personality disorders and something I wouldn't want to risk for my own kids.

So, my opinion is that being a stay at home mom and homeschooling your kids is the best idea you'll ever have :D
