What Are Some Pretty Simple Updos For A Formal Evening

As a woman, are you offended if a male stranger tells you you’re pretty?

Scenario 1:Walking through the mall, with my friends, in H&M.A complete stranger , in his 20’s, comes by and says ,“Hi, I know this is weird . But I really want to say you are really so pretty naturally. I was wondering if you are some actress, but then I couldn't recall seeing your face . Just wanted to compliment you genuinely. Sorry if you find it rude.”I smiled and thanked the guy. My guy friends kept teasing me that I have fans on streets. But I didn't find it rude.Scenario 2:I was in a elevator of the hospital I used to work in. A kid, 7–8 years of age, smiled at me and I returned the smile. Then he signaled me to bow down so he could say something, I did with a wide smile. His mom asked him not to disturb me, but I said it's okay.He whispered in my ears, “You're so pretty. I wish you were my doctor. I love you, you look so sweet.”I kept laughing. I thanked him and chatted a bit till my floor came. He was adorable!Scenario 3:A stranger walked to me in a pub , drunk as he seemed. Told me I look hot and if I wanted to dance.I stared him down and he went his way.It depends on how genuinely you're being complimented.Even if a stranger compliments me and its a genuine one, it makes me feel good. I don't feel offended.Rather if a stranger compliments me making me uncomfortable with the vibe we girls naturally get from the wrong guys, I mind my own business without reciprocating any action over that. It offends if the compliment is purely in wrong approach.Being complimented over your looks genuinely, whatever anyone says, it makes your day! Even if I don't appreciate myself due to my busy schedule, it feels great that I get genuine compliments in between from strangers sometimes.

What should I wear to a formal lunch?

grey pencil skirt, wool or other non-synthetic fabric, pink shell and sweater set. Pearls, simple stud earrings, one ring and a wrist watch. Simple low-heeled grey shoes.
Simple, elegant, conservative.

Or: more summery, if it's to be outside or on a patio:
Cotton floral dress (white background with floral print) white low heels or flats, a brimmed hat, sunglasses, a coordinating sweater, handbag, the ubiquitous pearls or a small gold necklace, stud earrings, not too heavy on the makup, simple elegant hairstyle (clip or pulled back)

and good luck to you. You want to impress his family? Don't stand out. No lie. The spiked dog collar, black army boots and camo gear will scare them away.

What should a woman wear to a formal tea?

Although this question is for women I will point out that a gentleman should be wearing Afternoon dress. This would consist of a pair of trousers, white shirt and jacket, preferably blazer style. A waistcoat should not really be worn. Some modern places even don't insist on a tie.For ladies obviously Clare has suggested a floral print dress which is a classic look. However in this modern age, the look is substantially more informal. Society was rocked at the Scandal of Doncaster Racecourse, where the stewards denied entry to several ladies for inappropriate attire, including some minor royalsI couldn't find this seasons ladies fashions, but last year "near neon" was in vogue in pastel colours. Informal suit combinations as in skirt and jacket were popular too. Skirts could also be knee length.Japanese designs are popular this year, but I wouldn't go as far as to say in fashion.Debrett's Peerage has some useful tips on how a lady should act. http://www.debretts.com/british-...

What are some good makeup ideas when wearing a gold dress?

Hello. Gold is such a flattering color but if you wear it wrong then it can end up making you look like a disco ball! The biggest mistake most people commit while wearing gold is that they compliment it with bright red lipstick and heavy eye makeup. This just takes away the entire attention from the dress to your face and the bright lips shine with the eye making the entire attire a disaster. Now that you know what you shouldn’t do here is a makeup look what you can consider depending on how well it suits your style. The following look is just an idea and you can tweak it to your needs. Nude lips are great for a shimmer dress. You can try a nude lipstick with slight pink undertones or even brown undertones. Both work with this look. Pick your shade according to what you feels flatters your outfit the most.I went with a bronze gold on my lids with a very light brown for the transition shade (i.e. in the crease) and a darker chocolate brown on the outer corners. The look is very simple and can be customized based on how much shimmer you want on your eyes. You can build up the color on your lids. I chose bronze+gold because I really like this combination. Choose brown for the outer 1/3rd of your lid as it compliments the gold in the dress and keeps the look very subtle yet sexy. You can also extend the bronze-gold in the first half of your lower lashline and the same brown for the second half of the lower lashline. Do not forget to blend. Blending is the key which helps you achieve the smokiness. Blend the colors together till your liking and keep packing more color if required. Tightline your eyes and use a good mascara (with or without falsies). This look is without the falsies because lets be real most of us are horrible at applying fake eyelashes! You can even wing your eyeliner for a more dramatic look!I hope this helped :)PS. How do I made a formal black dress not look like a funeral outfit?

If you gave specs on the actual event, I would better help you, but in general here are my ideas....

Wear it with your hair either in a cute but unstructured updo or curled and down (not ringlets, but half ringlets).... and wear either neutral or dark accessories. Don't wear silver; too wintery, flashy and common. Gold would be nice if you are going to a formal (very formal) affair... otherwise, I would wear some dark colored shoes like dark purple, dark red; maybe more vibrant but make sure the locale is consistent with your dress. Don't do bright red, looks cheap. Another option is royal blue... looks great against black.

Honestly, I would wear very thin strappy sandal/heels in gold, copper or bronze (or another color I mentioned). You don't want them to be too flashy or bold (a huge gold heel with closed toes screams too much, IMO). If you are wearing a LBD to a cocktail party or awards dinner, you should keep it modest and simple, yet elegant.

Wear either matching earrings or necklace (NEVER both) but maybe a clutch or small handbag in same color.

With a LBD these colors are fun, not over-the-top:
Dark purple (violet)
Bronze
Gold (not unique though)
Copper
Burgundy (NOT red) - it looks cheap

No tights... if the shoes are open toed, paint them black as well, but your nails should be close to the standout color. If you are going with dark purple shoes, you could do a lavender...which would still not "match" but be within the same hue...

Don't do the belt.

What kind of dress do you wear to a "black tie" event?

I'm was invited to the Chicago Racquet Club "Last Days of Disco" event tonight. I've never been there, but wikipedia describes it as "a pretigious athletic club". Dress code on the invitation says "Disco Attire or Black Tie". As a girl who is not going in disco attire, should my dress be black? Any color? long? Short?

Going to boyfriends prom?

You may not want to go 'all out' but you don't want to be under dressed, after all it is a prom and you are his date, so you still need to dress appropriate for the occasion. You wouldn't want your bf showing up at your prom in jeans and a tee just because it isn't his prom right :)

Here are some cute dresses that aren't too over the top or gown like -

As for your makeup go bold on either the eyes or lips and neutral on the other to keep things balanced and not over done looking.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!! I wish I had a prom, never did :(

What do you wear to an Air Force Ball?

The military is still more formal than the civilian sector.

Your escort/hubby will have to wear the AF version of a dress uniform (in the Army it's either his class A's or Dress Blues with a bowtie after 6pm or Mess Dress if you own them). So you will want to complement him.

You should receive an invitation prior to the ball with dress stated in the lower corner. HOWEVER even if it states semi-formal that is NOT a short dress or cocktail dress in the military. Although you will see women wear them (short spangly things) the proper dress is a formal gown (floor length). Semi-formal in the military is tea length (ankle) with nice shoes, etc. Most balls/dining outs ARE formal occasions with ladies in ball gowns (not as young looking as a prom dress), some even wear gloves. Nice updos, etc. Absoloutly no pants or everyday clothes!

Check out your version of the military wife handbook and talk to the commander's wife about what she will be wearing.

Have fun! We have one in Oct - If you have a Dillard's near you you can get smokin deals on formals when they are on sale. If you can't afford that, check the base thrift shop or have a formal swap at the unit! Borrow one. It's your night to be Cinderella/Princess!

There is also specific protocol to the dinner - in the Army it's posting of the colors first, toasts, invocation, etc. You won't dance until late - after above, dinner and speaker, anything specific the unit adds. I think you will really enjoy it - just remember it's not an occasion to get drunk and stupid even when others do!
