What Are Some Really Good Intense Movie Soundtrack/scores

What are some great movie scores/background music?

I recently started listening to movie scores carefully, hence the list of my favorite soundtracks is pretty short. Here:1. Almost Famous - A collection of some very famous classic rock songs2. Guardians of the Galaxy - Again, a collection of classic pop songs3. Inception, The Dark Knight series - Hans Zimmer4. Oblivion - M83, the French electronic shoegaze band has put some really good music on this soundtrack. Check the title song 'Oblivion' with Susan Sundfor on the the vocals.5. MI2 - A couple of really good rock songs6. Minority Report7. Moon - Clint Mansell. The title song is awesome.Enjoy!

Which movie has the most intense background score?

Brief Encounter (1945) Excerpts from Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 recur throughout the film, played by Eileen Joyce.

What is the film technique where the background score is revealed to be relevant to the scene, such as the soundtrack being revealed to be someone on the piano in a scene? In IT, the background score is revealed to be played by Georgie's mother.

In movies, the score that plays in the background is called “non-diegetic sound”, or sound that is not part of the diegesis, or world of the film. In this scene, the music transitions to being non-diegetic to diegetic because the source of the sound transitions from an unknown to a known one. The technique in itself is really an artistic one, involving the composer and sound design team.Another cool example I recommend of this technique is the opening scene of Iron Man:Hope this answers your question!

Has a movie score ever influenced a scene instead of the other way around?

The ending of ET - The Extra Terrestrial is a prime example of the collaborative influence of music between the director and composer. Spielberg loved Williams’ score so much that he decided that the editing for the ending of the film would be ‘cut to’ the music. This was Williams and the orchestra did not need to hit specific cues which was the atypical approach. Instead, they just played the music as a stand alone piece.

What are some good orchestral instruments for a dramatic fight scene?

Full orchestra works good, as does brass and percussion. You could also experiment with samples and synths to see if something works. You could take a page right out of Hanz Zimmer and use it all (look at what he did with all the Batman movies). There is no "best" or "right" way, just try to find the best way for you. Experiment and write like a mad man!

What do you think of the soundtrack in Dunkirk?

Headache. I'm all for Hans Zimmer scores but this one went too far. When done correctly, sound design can really enhance the movie. It worked flawlessly in No Country for Old Men. It was subtle but supporting. The Dunkirk score was overbearing. It wouldn't let up. Maybe I'm not artsy enough to appreciate the symbolism behind the relentless score and the war. I found it ditracted from the narrative and went on long enough to lose its desired effect.Still enjoyed the movie though.
