Why do cats respond to the word puss but no other name?
Cats are extremely smart and learn to respond to their own name very quickly. If they are not responding it’s just because they are not interested at the time. My dad used to refer to any cat we had just plainly as, “cat”. My mom used to sing out the back door, “kiiiiitttyyyyy” repetitively just before bedtime, and it might take a couple of minutes if the cat was far away but he would definitely come back to make sure he could get in the house before the door was shut for the night. At one point later in life, my roommate and I took in a stray cat. My roommate named him Tom, but the cat was just kind of a jerk so we ended up referring to him that way. Eventually he responded to the name jerk. (We still loved him)
From which Latin word does the cat derive its name?
Latin: feles, felis, cattus
What is the best cat name you’ve ever heard?
Won’t say it’s the best name since it’s the name I gave my cat, but I called my black cat Koshka, which means “cat” in Russian (female cat. Word for male cat is Kot). I thought it was kind of fun, as I seriously lacked any imagination and couldn’t find a proper name for her.Everybody think it’s so amazing and exotic. And when I tell them the meaning they like it even more. Actually, I “copied” my mom’s bestfriend: when I was a kid, I was always playing at her place with her kids (same age) and they had a cat, whose name was Katze. I wondered about the name and she once told me that they adopted the cat and couldn’t really decide on the name and kept calling her “the cat”. They are of Swiss-German origin, so they talked German (actually Swiss-German, schwyzerdütsch for the purists ^^), and that translates to “die Katze”. The name stuck :) the cat was finally name Katze. I thought it was just awesome to name a cat “cat”.The story has more to it, but for the basics, that’s it :) I have a cat called cat, and nobody has a clue, everybody think it’s awesome and that I made up a really cool name for her.My other cat is a fluffy Siamese called Siam :)

What are some Italian words for baby kitten names?
My kitten is gray and fluffy. He/She (I cant tell yet) has tiger stripes and has a very sweet demeanor. He is only about 2 weeks old and was abandoned. Here are pictures http://www.flickr.com/photos/39919629@N02/3669319616/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/39919629@N02/3668510433/
Should I name my cat "Giblet" or "Gibby"?
I thought of the name giblet because when we were at the shelter, there was an old cat and his name was giblet, and we didn't adopt him because my mom didn't like his age :(((, and I don't think he'll ever get adopted, or at least not in the near future, he's been in the shelter for a looonngggg time, so I think it'd be nice if I named my cat Giblet to like, idk the right word, "honor that cat"??, like "Giblet junior". I thought of Gibby because it's sort of a nickname for Giblet, and it's an icarly character, I'm not huge icarly fan but I do think gibby's my favorite character in it. so what do you think?(you can say they're both lame it's okay just say your true opinion)
What is the English word for a male cat?
It’s simply a “tomcat.” If you call it anything else, no one will understand what you’re talking about because they’re not very used anymore. That’s why there are so many male cats named “Tom” (since it’s used as a play on words for the name “Thomas,” since the nickname is Tom).Example: Tom and Jerry.I saw that someone else said that a female cat is called a “queen,” but no one uses this and most would likely not even know what you’re talking about. The same is true for “Molly” to refer to a female cat (at least in the United States—though a few more may have heard of this term over “queen”). In (common) language, there really is no term for a female cat anymore. I’m not sure about in the professional sense (like veterinary medicine, breeding, etc).
