What Are The Advantages Of Hardcopy Books Over Ebooks

What are your opinions of books vs. Ebooks?

I love regular books for many different reasons. The smell of a new book is intoxicating. I love being able to hold the book in my hands and carry it around with me. It's like your holding a piece of art in your hands. I also like the feeling of the pages. I like that you can mark in it wherever you want. You can keep your spot with your favorite bookmark, or just fold the page if you want too. Books are also good gifts. It's nice to write little notes on the first page to whoever you're giving the book too. With books, you also share it with others. It's so much more fun to let your friend borrow your book than say "Go buy an Ebook" or "Here, borrow my Kindle". You can't ebook with your kids. It just wouldn't be right.

I'm not a fan of ebooks. Some people can't be on the computer for long periods of time, and so it takes them longer to read the book. Others can't read on the computer, period. It takes the personal experience out of reading. But you don't have to worry about taking with you everywhere. It also makes it easier for large books, such as encyclopedia's or dictionary's. You always have it at your fingertips.

What are advantages of eBooks over conventional books?

I would say that the answers you’ve already received are quite thorough. However, as you asked, I’d say:Obviously, portability; the ability to carry a thousand books at once is rather nice.Font sizing—for those of us that wear glasses, this is pretty wonderful.backlighting, if you wish to read at night.SEARCH. This, to me, is a killer feature. I love being able to use search. For example, I buy a recipe book, and vaguely remember that when I read it, I saw a meal that had bacon and black beans—but in viewing the index and the TOC, I can’t find it. In paper, that’s a “grrrrrrr” moment. In an eBook, it’s a few clicks, and I’ll have my answer. To me, that’s invaluable.Zoomability of graphs, charts and (some) tables—this is also pretty great. How many times have you read a book in print, and been frustrated at not being able to read a chart? Now, you can zoom that chart with the touch of a fingertip. And, of course, the availability of pretty much every book, in digital format. Sure, not all are—but many are. If you really want a book, you can, by and large, find it and grab it, fulfilling your instant gratification need. These, to me, are the primary advantages, over paper. Do they smell like paper? No. They don’t. But if I’m going on a much-needed holiday, I’d infinitely rather tote one Kindle than a suitcase full of paper books, and at the rate I read, I’d need the suitcase. ;-)

Do you read e-books? What are their advantages and disadvantages when compared with paper books?

Yes i do and let's straight away head into the advantages and disadvantages of reading an E-Book.Advantages :They are cheaper to buy when you shop them via Kindle. They can also be downloaded for free in some websites. With the Kindle version of books you don't have to search for difficult words as they can be accessed on top of the word itself. So easy to learn new words on the go.It's easy to make a note of alot of things with various options available in Kindle. You can read them anytime whether you're travelling or in the office or anywhere for that matter. The reading experience itself is good with the availability of various font styles, font size, background type and a lot of other things. It's quite handy and you wouldn't feel that you're struck on a single page for a long time as the screen is relatively smaller compared to a real book, it'll give you the feel that you're going at a good pace. You can read them at nights with the lights turned off. Trust me this has been the greatest advantage of reading an E-book as i usually read at night a lot and my parents are quite strict about having the lights turned off at nights.Disadvantages :Keeping the advantages aside reading with a physical book on hand is in itself is quite a different experience.Since they are available for free and relatively at a cheaper price you'll buy a lot of things and end up reading nothing fully. You'll be always on the lookout for buying rather than completing what's in there now.Since they come for free you wouldn't value them as much as you do with the physical book.So yes that is it. Hope this helps ✌

Physical books vs. eBooks: Which format do most people prefer, and why?

I can see both sides of this debate ... for me it's a hard choice.

There's just something about picking up a tangible book and turning pages that seems so right especially with a cup of hot coffee on a rainy day to transport you to another time or place.

But I can also see the benefits of e-books as well. We can preserve our forests and have places to go camping or hiking and produce more oxygen to combat all the pollutants in the air we currently breathe.

I still have to go with a tangible book over the e-book because everyone is so caught up with devices that take us out of relational elements as it is and how hard are e-books on our eyesight?

How do e-books affect hard copies?

Yes. The effect has started being seen. The sales of hard copies of books are declining, it appears. That is also because of the easier availability of ebook copies globally, against difficulties in getting hard copies.Secondly, the hard copies are printed in limited editions of usually 500–1000 copies for ordinary books, barring the bestsellers. The copies are rarely available after most are sold out; and for financial considerations, another edition, or reprint, may be unviable.Generally, the trend of pricing of ebooks is to keep them much lower than the hard copies. This consideration attracts more readers to ebooks. There is space-saving too, for storing the books, and their availability at a flick of mouse. The screens for reading ebooks are getting improved, with Kindle and tabs, and larger touchscreen laptops. The ease of their reading is increasing gradually.I am myself an author of books. My books are on a special subject in which the readership is not likely to be even 500. And I am a newer and not well-known author. Printing book copies is a no no proposition for me, as it will only be wasteful and uneconomical. So I have adopted publishing my books on ebooks platforms like Amazon, etc. I have augmented it by Print-on-demand books through Amazon/Createspace for making print copies available globally to any of my readers who desire to have a printed copy. Yet the pricing of POD books is necessarily much higher per copy than for an edition of 500–1000 hard copies.I personally love to read hard copy of a book, and prefer it over ebook copy. There are certain advantages in reading hardcopies, including comfort, ease, less srain to the eyes, flipping across its pages to locate some point, etc. which I feel over ebooks. But I am from the older Gen of readers, not from the new one who is virtually born with laptops and mobiles in hands!Recently, one very old bookseller - a very famous bookstore from Mumbai, was in the news for announcing its intention to close down, for obvious reasons - declining sales of hard copies. In that, one can read the future trends.

How do I make my Kindle Edition e-book available in hard copy format?

You could use CreateSpace to publish a paperback version of your book for free. This would then make the book available to users around the world in paperback format.  However, be aware that CreateSpace books are printed in the US and shipped from the US (Amazon.com). So, shipping costs to India can sometimes be more than the cost of the book itself.

E-textbooks for college. Good or bad idea?

Depends on how you study. If you like reading off of your kindle then it may work great for you. Most teachers don't care. Some don't even use the book. I've bought several textbooks that I used once or twice, and never touched again. The resale value of textbooks is so bad that you will spend way less on a $25 ebook than on the $70 used book even after you return it. The only problem is that many classes require online homework, and the access code for it comes with the book, so you will have to purchase that if your teacher uses it.
