What Are The Effects Of Taking Laxative Medication

How long do the effects of taking a laxative last?

Considering the fact that this used to be your first time to make use of a laxitive you failed to particularly need a maximun force. You will have to be over your diarrhea through tomorrow i'd think. Should you get very constipated once more are trying shopping some , mineral oil, take two enormous tablespoons at bedtime and this should do the trick without the diarrhea. Take into account to drink ALOT of water this helps to keep your colon lubricated. And don't think that is embarassing, we all need to have bowel movements...

There are no positive effects. All the effects are negative, including marked electrolyte shifts and lethal arrhythmias, when abused. It is perplexing to me that someone could consider excessive fluid loss (in the form of diarrhea) a loss of weight. It is also perplexing that people somehow believe that diarrhea interferes with absorption of nutrients and hence prevents food from being absorbed (the idea being that it just "passes through"); this is patently false.Don't use laxatives with the purpose of losing weight. Cut back on caloric intake.

Do laxatives have any side effects? ?

Uh ... if you depend on a regular dose of laxative to be able to use the bathroom and are upping your dosage to keep it effective, it sounds like you've landed in an abuse cycle.

Laxatives work by stimulating the intestines, among other things. Repeated, excessive use of laxatives can perforate the intestinal lining resulting in bleeding, infections, ulcers, etc. not to mention the usual bout of nutrient deficiency, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance.

It is COMPLETELY possible to abuse laxatives to such an extent that the bowels cease to function on their own. What you're describing isn't a "little constipation", it's a chemical dependency (twice the recommended dose, every day, for 6 years?) that can and will result in a permanent condition.

No wonder you're dependent on them, and your GP sounds like an idiot. Get another opinion.

What is laxative effect?

Just understand the anatomy of bowl movement.
I suggest every one in the world that never believe anything unless you get answer of How & Why? of every thing happens in our life.
Three things Water, Alcohol & Fat are the three things which do not have to go through the whole digestive system. You are thirsty you drink water it gets absorbed through mouth food pipe & stomach lining and enough water is absorbed in blood brain tells kidneys that you have enough water.
You drink alcohol from very first peg you start feeling high - same effect, later alcohol enters liver. same story of direct fat as they are very thin when they are on normal individuals body Temperature.
Normal digestive time is 4 hrs.
The best way to remain healthy is to eat breakfast (quality not quantity) and then give exactly 4 hrs. to properly digest it, do not eat even a biscuit. You can drink tea/coffee etc.
Take lunch on time and give strictly 4 hrs. to have anything.
Take fruits in the evening when you are again empty stomach, but take only seasonal fruits of your own country.
Walk in the evening as speed and length you can, but do not over stress as every day your stamina is going to increase.
Take a cup of milk at bed time, it promotes good night sleep. Milk contains Trytophan a protein from which our brain make serotonin hormone which is a mood enhancing & you remain jolly all day.
Triphala is the only natural laxative as it is not a medicine but a combination of three dried fruits which can be taken thru out life without stoping.
For keeping our intestines caster oil can be taken in warm milk or warm water at bed time.
The third safest laxative is Isabgol husk.
I treat chronic constipation with psychological training along with the above therapy and i can see people who suffered have been cured and do not need any medicine.
Weather you have pressure or not just go to toilet ( set one time i.e. 8 am) sit, do not put pressure, if stomach is clear fine otherwise come back and again go at 8 pm.
One day, 2nd third or 13th day you will sat art clearing your stomach twice a day which is very healthy.
This is training your brain to tell your large intestine to clear itself on time.
Tried & tested extremely success full treatment. I have introduced to the world & from this date no one will claim it to be his/heir's.

Can I reverse the effects of a laxative?

Either immodium, or benadryl.

Immodium works directly on the bowels to slow them down, while benadryl's side effect is to slow down gastric movements, but will also make you sleepy. Like the last answerer stated, do not take them until it actually happens, as you may end up just giving yourself constipation.

Is there any way to stop the effects of a laxative from happening after you take the pills and before effects?

Yes. Imodium AD. It is not good to stop the effects of the laxative though because you are risking blockage issues

Laxative effects??, when will I get them?

I know this is an old question - but I didn't see anyone address this, especially considering you are a extensive world traveler and other curries don't have the same impact. I used to think it's the combination of the cumin, turmeric, coriander, cardamon and clove that cause this in some people, however I'm now convinced it's mustard oil with the other ingredients. I was surprised to learn that the ground seeds act as a laxative, stimulant to gastric mucosa and increase intestinal secretion.I think it's all in the preparation of course, I can have whole mustard seeds in a delicious German mustard, with no ill effect, but have to wary of a curry with a mustard oil base. Try beano beforehand . Works for me. :)
