Can someone sue my parents when i let my friend borrow my car?

okay so about 2 weeks ago, i let my friend borrow my car to go to a photoshoot and by the looks of it, he totaled my car. it was his fault too for being so careless. the driver of the other car had minor injuries. but now the passenger of the other car wants to sue my parents for personal reasons and their probably both out to get us. my car is insured under my parents name and i am under their insurance policy. my friend told me afterward that he doesnt even have insurance......this is such a mess. what do i do? can they really sue my parents or me?

If I'm marrying a single mother with children do I have a legal obligation to financially support her kids?

As far as I'm concerned, if you are even considering this issue you are unsuited to marry her.  The reason I state this is because you are already treating these innocent children as a burden to your relationship and as a separate entity to the woman you profess love to, but she is probably unaware of this and was desirous of a husband who would love them as if they were his own children.  If you truly love her, you should be willing to accept her, her children and other responsibilities wholeheartedly into your life without worrying about the financial responsibilities that it will incur. Please give serious and thorough consideration of whether you are ready to open your heart to them as if they are truly your children instead of worrying about how much the responsibility will force you to open your wallet or bank account.  If you can't handle the added responsibilities (financial and otherwise) as well as the fact that you would be marrying into a "ready-made family," please end this relationship before you marry her, feel resentment and cause these children to bear the brunt of your negative feelings about them.I have several friends who married into this type of situation that have so much love for the children in question that you literally forget that they aren't the biological parents.  If you cannot place loving these children and providing them a stable and loving environment as a higher priority than your finances, please do this family (they are a unit) a favor and gently back away.

What happens if a child murders someone?

Based on my PSY and CRJ studies, I would have to say that if a child murders someone, they may not fully realize the great impact of it.  It is widely known that children are not old enough to form a coherent world view, and the devastating effects of taking another's life.  One report I read stated that an average ten year old has seen over 10,000 murders on television and movies.  Thus, they may think that killing a person does not mean that much, there are always more 'lives' that get rebooted to the program (thanks Nintendo Game Genie (:Seriously though, if a child does happen to realize the impact of a murder, they may become withdrawn, border on clinical depression, and suffer long-term emotional 'baggage.'  The law has varying degrees of prosecution and culpability of child murderers, depending on the state in which the child resides.  Southern states like Florida, Texas, Louisiana, and Arizona, are notorious for, (in my opinion anyway), viciously going after homicides committed by children.  These states will try a 13 year-old as an adult and will often seek capital punishment for the crime.  I, personally, do not agree with this because a child is not just a 'miniature' adult, they are an incomplete canvas on which life experience is imprinted.  We all did stuff as kids, but as adults we see the error of our ways (hindsight is 20/20).  Much as some of these states would like to think of an adolescent as a hardened 50 year old convict with a long wrap sheet, most murders committed by children involve at least some level of immaturity (even somewhat innocence) and probably do not fully realize the impact of a homicide.  On the other hand, there have been instances where children are just simply 'evil' (The Good Son, Identity, and the like).  Figuring this out is why we have our judicial system and if the DA or Grand Jury decides to try the adolescent in Family Court or in an adult one.  In the end, the child will most likely suffer extensive psychopathology, and may require many years of therapy.  What a parent can do to prevent this tragedy, is to just reinforce the old Mala In Se, Code of Hammurabi, or simply, the notion that killing is wrong, in most of its forms.

Seventeen Years Old in Minnesota?

You have to be emancipated from your parents.

Until an emancipation is granted by a court, a minor is still subject to the rules of their parent/guardian.

This requires obtaining a court order from a judge (does not require parent/guardian consent).

An emancipated minor is legally able to do everything an adult can do, except purchasing tobacco, pornography, lottery tickets and registering to vote; those items are based entirely on being the specific age of 18, so minor/emancipated minor/adult status is irrelevant. Emancipated minors can sue and be sued in their own name, enter into contracts, seek or decline medical care, obtain a driver's license, obtain housing and motor vehicles, drop out of high school, get married, join the military, et cetera. Thus emancipated minority is, for all practical purposes, equal to adulthood.

I wish you luck and good fortune. Think before you act. Do the right thing.
