What Can I Do About My Jaw

What should I do if my dentist broke my jaw?

How do you know that your jaw is broken? Who told you so, or is this just your assumption? Or is this just a hypothetical question?Did the dentist punch you in the jaw? If so, that is assault and it is a felony. I doubt that this happened. If your jaw broke during an extraction because your jawbone was small due to osteoporosis or loss of many teeth, it would be an unfortunate occurrence, but it would probably not be malpractice. If your jaw was broken by the dentist, did he/she tell you that it was broken or did he/she not inform you? To prove your jaw was broken you would need an x-ray showing clearly the fracture. In the absence of this, no reputable attorney would take on the case, since it is improper and possibly illegal to sue for a fracture when one does not actually exist. You would also have to prove that the fracture occurred in the dental chair and not elsewhere, as during a fall.In the absence of clear evidence, go and see another dentist for his/her advice.

Why does the jaw affect the ear?

This is a fun one: the ear, pretty much the whole thing, used to be part of the jaw!Early fish had fairly complicated jaw joints, so when ears started developing, a lot of those little bones were coopted to become part of the new structure, leaving our jaws with the much simpler system we use today. It’s a lot more complicated than that, but basically, evolution never creates a new thing if it can reuse an old thing, and when that happens, connections to what the old thing once was often hang around. Now, for the second part, the actual name of what connects the ear to the jaw is the Eustachian Tubes, which let a little air in or out when the pressure changes, so your eardrum doesn’t pop like a balloon.

What should I do if my jaw pops out of place?

Relax.Don’t Panic.Calm yourself.Massage the muscles on either side of your jaw just below your cheekbone and in front of your ear by about 1″.As you relax, you will feel that your jaw gets tighter. Don’t worry, this is the small muscle that has moved your jaw joint pad out of position spasming.Continue to relax through, maybe apply some heat.Eventually, the spasming muscle will run out of glycogen and relax. Then you will be able to close your jaw. This muscle, the lateral pterygoid, is the cause of your locking. It is the upper muscle in this series:The basics of TMD begins with a muscle coordination disorder that overstresses the articular discs ligaments, causing it to fail to be drawn back into its rest position. This lack of tension on the lateral pterygoid muscle causes it to fire out of sequence with the muscles of mastication, and the muscle then starts to spasm. The best simple treatments are:Stop chewing gumStop smokingStop drinking caffeine (you can do it!)Don’t eat excessively hard foods (like Jerky and Ice)When you sense your muscles are tense, build a routine (like a song or a phrase for timing) to relax your muscles.Apply heat if it is helpful, or iceAn anti-inflammatory appropriate for your health status.Hope this helps!Keep flossing!

My jaw hurts from boxing... Any tips?

Getting hit in the jaw jars the muscles that operate the jaw which will cause them to tighten up. Tightened up jaw muscles will be in pain and not allow you to operate your mouth properly, kind of like having a spasm in the muscles. To get rid of the pain you have to release your jaw muscles to free up the ones that have tightened up and here's how to do that release:
Jaw muscles:
Put your fingers on your head so your thumbs are behind your ears. Press into the back of your jaw bone next to the skull and hold that pressure. After 30 seconds slowly raise your head until your neck is fully extended then open your mouth as far as you can. Release the pressure but hold your head and mouth like that for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Why does cheese make my jaw hurt?

Sometimes when I eat certain cheeses such as cheddar, the back of my jaw hurts for a brief second and goes away. What causes this? Does anyone else experience this too?

What can I do about my jaw-winking syndrome?

Sarah, while there is nothing you can personally do physically, there is a lot to do to cope with this. First work on your self-esteem, know yourself and all your strengths and virtues and I am sure you have a lot. Don´t focus on your MG. Get surrounded by loving sincere friends that love and appreciate you for who you are. Get away from the opposite. Do not try to fit in, or be like the rest. You are special and not only for the wink, but for many more reasons, celebrate them.If the droopy eye is affecting your vision you might get surgery but this is very dangerous and not many good results have been recorded. You will do great!

Do I need to worry about bone loss in my jaw?

I had 4 teeth yanked before I got braces when I was 13 and no problems here yet. The leading cause of bone loss is poor flossing. When plaque and the like get deep down under the gums, it eats away at the base of the tooth where the bone is. A good dentist will do a test where they use this measuring poker and prod the base of each tooth and measure it on a scale of 1-6, 6 being the worst. If you're a good flosser, you most likely have nothing to worry about. If you're not a good flosser, look into getting a water pik. It may not be as good as flossing but its better than doing nothing.

My lower jaw is growing too fast, what can I do?

I saw my dentist a year and a half ago after my bite started changing significantly. She said my bottom jaw was growing too fast. Today my bottom jaw is slightly larger than my top jaw, it's not too noticeable but it is a big change from what it used to be. Is there anything I can do to correct it? I'm a 17 yr old male.

Does your jaw hurt from trying not to cry?

Yes, it does. It’s best not to try and hold it in but instead let the tears flow.Suppressing emotions can cause a lot of turmoil and psychological discomfort. This can actually lead to disease and physical pain as well.If you don’t like crying in front of others, you could take a moment to excuse yourself and go to the bathroom (or elsewhere). If this is hard for you to do, you’d greatly benefit from uncovering the beliefs that keep you from allowing yourself to experience and feel your emotions without feeling embarrassed or ashamed.
