Yesterday night at around 11, some guy came into my backyard and tried to rob my house. I have a one of those lights that go on when someone moves around and security cameras all around my house. I have some people renting out a section of my house and thought "Why would they be taking trash out this late?" So now that I saw that the light was on for a while, I opened the blinds and looked out the window. Some white guy in his late 30's or early 40's was standing right there looking out the window. He didn't have a weapon but he said something that I couldn't make out. I called the police and then they caught him next door taking stuff from my neighbor's garage. I went to the police station to identify him and now he's behind bars. I have learned my lesson and now I want a gun for protection. I need something with not a lot of recoil and good stopping power. I want something simple like a revolver. I don't want it to kill and leave a big mess in the house. I have a family and don't want them stuck with an image in their heads. I want a reliable gun that's intimidating.
How do I convince my mom to let me leave the house alone?
Ask for a family meeting. State your desires, and talk about how you will be on your own soon enough and if you haven’t had experience being out of the house alone, you will be MORE susceptible to dangers because of your lack of street smarts. Try to get permission for small steps and work up to bigger steps. Don’t put your father against your mother….just state YOUR position and ask for more freedom as a new adult.My granddaughter is 21 and lives with me. I expect her to tell me where she’s going when she goes out and when she expects to be home. I think that’s a good arrangement…it’s not about me controlling her…it’s a safety issue…it’s about knowing where to start looking if she doesn’t make it home. You might make that kind of agreement with your mother, BUT be sure you ARE home when you say you will be or to call her and tell her you’ll be late. That’s sort of breaking your mother into seeing you as an adult slowly. Good luck!

How can I keep my house clean with a Mastiff inside?
My husband has two dogs, a Mastiff and a sheepdog/border collie mix. I would like to have a very clean house, but it is impossible to keep up with. I would like to restrict the dogs to the basement, but my husband won't allow that. He also doesn't see the need to wipe the dogs feet when they come in from a walk. He is the type of person that is totally oblivious to dirt. I vacuum & mop every other day or so, but the floors always seem to have hair and pawprints. The other major problem is the slobber. The walls get covered with dried slobbers. I try to wash periodically, but it takes long time to wash the walls of 5 rooms and it is hard on the paint. If we have people over (which is rare, because I get so upset about dirt) I always see spots I missed. I don't want people to think that I live in a dirty house, so usually I just avoid having anyone over. Any tips on keeping the house clean would be appriciated.
